  1. Congrats on her baby! We're getting her from a wonderful breeder near Pittsburgh P.A., which is about an hour from our home, it's been well worth the drive to go and visit, and the breeder is amazing with the birds. I am counting down the hours that she'll be with us.
  2. That is great advice...I bought a palm mat (I was told they are safe for birds)usually for guinea pigs, or rabbits and put it in our Sun-Conures cage, it's really helped with the broken feather problem that we had, and I think I will see if I can get a larger mat for Gabby's cage as well, and keep her perches low for at least a couple of weeks to see how she does, the cage is a multi level cage with play gym on top. but I think we'll keep an eye on her and just make sure she's safe. Thanks.
  3. After months of waiting, our CAG Gabby, is coming home! We are so excited but I was wondering if her perches should be lower than normal, until she gets use to the cage? Also I was wondering if anyone knows anything about there immune system? How long does it take them to mature enough where she can travel with us? (on short trips and expanding the mileage with time?) Thank you, any info would be appreciated.
  4. Thank you...I will keep you posted...I really enjoy this site everyone is so helpful and nice. Thanks!
  5. Thanks for the advice...I'm alittle nervous about getting a bigger bird, I know when our conure had to have a broken blood feather pulled he bit me hard,(it bruised) but I can't blame him, if somebody just plucked my feather out of my butt I'd be grumpy too!
  6. Well, I went to see our new baby, she is huge! She's at least 3 times bigger than my sun conure! Wow, now I am SO excited.... April can't come soon enough! She was making these little noises, and then when I held her, she just sat in my arms and stared at me...until she started to fall asleep. The breeder gave lots of advice, but I was wondering....how hard has anyone been bitten? do you ever let your african on your shoulder? any advice? Thanks.
  7. yes, but not so close that sammie can "hop" on over to her cage...just close enough where they can see eachother and talk to eachother.. thanks for all your advice I'm going to try everything to ensure that they're happy.
  8. Thank you so much...I will.
  9. Well, we go this weekend to meet our "new baby girl", I love the name Laidan (pronounced Lay-dan-meaning gray lady) or Keely...but not sure which would be best...That is a great idea...I'm kind of worried about Sammie our conure and the new addition meeting, just because of the way he treats our other animals...(dogs and cats) he doesn't allow them to lay on me. he runs and tries to bite them...of course we have close supervision with them at all times, but we can't have him upset w/ the new baby...I guess we have to wait until we bring her home.

    Ice water bath

Hi....I am sorry but my Sun Conure LOVES the ice cold water from the fridge water system...if he is any where near it and i get a glass of water or fill his dish he dives in and takes a shower...i thought this was a fluke but it happens every day! And he loves to shower in the bathroom...also. His picture is on BirdChannel.com He is Sammie the Sunconure...go and visit his page.
  12. I was so happy to hear that he is stepping up and coming out of his cage on his own. Congrats on your success, good luck to future fun!
  13. Hi, I have a sun conure and am getting a african grey in April, and would like to know if anyone has any idea's on introducing them to eachother. Our sunconure is already jealous when one of our dogs and/or cats come over for some "mommy" attention so I was hoping someone could give me some advice to make it easier on both birds...Thanks....
