  1. I'm the stubbornest one in the house. We'd be making trips in and out of that bathroom until it's understood that's how it's going to be. As long as I'm busting my arse cooking and cleaning and making great fun time for them, I expect a little in return and I'll get it one way or another. We had a situation yesterday where a certain someone didn't want to wear their harness. It's been a long winter and we're out of practice. The nasty hard bites and the rolling upside down and pretending to play dead started so off we went for a 2-3 hour march through Home Depot and Lowes. Everybirdy was just fine once we returned. Townie rides in the harness are on the schedule for this evening since we seem to be having issues wearing our harness now.
  2. That's exactly what I want to do with Greycie. We have a park in the area that has nothing for acres and acres that would be safe to fly her. Are you using the Aviator Flight Line lead to get that much length?
  3. I'm always in Greycie's personal space and I have a few scars to show it. The worst one was when she struck me and ripped a nice straight line from the side of my nostril all the way down to my lip. Sometimes their displeasure with you being in their face is impossible for us to read before it's too late. Other times she pulls at my ear or the side of my cheek to get me in her personal space. Kind of like having a second wife - I have no idea what the hell is in that head of hers.
  4. Gawd stories like this make me jealous. I have a mute bird. None of our birds talk. I wonder if it's us? We baby talk them and probably way too much.
  5. Just wondering what type of cuddling you were doing? I have a cuddler or more appropriately a rough-houser. She's not much for 'stroking' although petting her on the oil gland will get her preening in high gear. She's more the type that will climb up on me and throw her head back which is my queue to try and tickle her and see if I can get away without a bite. She's playing but she does bite hard at that point. She also likes to hang off the front of the monitor and expects me to grab her under the wings and bounce her through the air while she throws her head back. Also turn her upside down and 'shake the change' out of her pockets. Anything similar to that? Not sure what I would do if we couldn't have play time any longer. This thread has me worried now...
  6. I suggest starting a thread for Chappie pics. I tend to click on a 'Hi...' thread once and out. A thread title that indicates updated pics of your bird, I for one will keep looking.
  7. Nobody around here volunteers for beak wipes. Kind of like trying to clean a kids face. I get lots of ::growly:: ::growly::
  8. Welcome. Know what you mean when you say you found your calling/feel complete. If you're a bird person they can have that affect on you. I love little green cheeks even though I don't have one anymore. They're special little orneries.
  9. Yep - hangout in parrot FB groups long enough and you'll see this is very prevalent (14,000+ members in the African Grey group alone). Someone gets a beak on the skin (birds third foot) and they say "my bird bites". I'll stand by my comment, it's usually the idiot that owns the bird, not the bird being aggressive. I've seen a lot of birds and haven't seen very many of what I would consider truly aggressive. I take Greycie to race outings and 9 out of 10 people she's able to buffalo just sensing their fear and she's far from 'aggressive'. They will tell me she's mean.
  10. Jeez. And I worry about my brats being cold in their 65 degree room.
  11. 'Aggressive' birds usually point to a problem with the parront, not the bird.
  12. I must be creating a monster. GreycieMae still LOVES to be fed 'formula'. It's not formula anymore, it's her special oatmeal that I fix. Both her (3yo) and Rio(1+) both go at it like they are still babies: wide open beaks and let me shovel it in by the spoon loads.
  13. Cute pics! It took you long enough to post those
  14. Wow. I can't imagine what it's like having a Grey that can talk!
  15. I've studied the photos and have come to the professional conclusion that little Miss Talon caught whomever did that nefarious act and has punished them appropriately.
  16. I'll start off with the name suggestions: Penelope. Sometimes I wish I would have used that name. GreycieMae is such a rotten princess sometimes it would have fit perfect. I'm sure we would have ended up calling her Princess Penelope.
  17. Well, that looks and sounds like African Grey 'parottese' to me. Get Dave to translate that for you - haa haa. That's not the stress shriek I was referring to and you would hate it - it drives us bonkers. It makes perfect sense you started hearing that when you brought another of his own kind into his proximity. Just from your two short videos there you look to have two fine friends in the making.
  18. IMO - you have the perfect situation going on there. Two Greys and they don't look to be aggressive at all in each other's presence although that's a very short video. Grey's DO NOT DO WELL alone!!!! From your description of the shrieking, it sounds like you are describing their stress call. Did it start when you brought the other Grey home? Our Grey started doing it when we brought our Caique home and now the damn Caique does it all the time. Our Grey has persisted with it too since it's being reinforced through the Caique. My sense is it will diminish as they start to settle in with each other. I don't think you can go wrong with two Greys that get along. They will still include you in their flock if you participate. Nothing worse than a lone bird all day long while you're at work. Post a video of the shrieking if you can.
  19. Keep posting his/her pics - I like to watch them grow. They don't don't stay babies for long.
  20. Such a pretty girl. They seem to really love the sun shining through. Mine play a lot when the morning sun is beaming through their birdyroom window in the mornings.
  21. We thought about netting in our front porch area but after what happened to Ozzy(sp?) with those teenage bastards that shot him I won't expose my birds to anyone off the road that can take a pot shot at them with a pellet gun just for something fun to do.
  22. Our direct backyard is not much bigger than the typical postage stamp backyards everywhere. Shoot, we're still toying with the idea of netting our whole backyard in for them.
  23. Our Jardines head looks like that when our Caique gets done 'grooming' him. You don't possibly have another bird do you?
