  1. Seriously disturbing video. Of course people probably wouldn't agree with my riding my birds on my Townie bike either. But we're noodling along at 5-10mph, short leashed harnessed and I can flat foot at anytime (Townies are designed that way). Our biggest danger is the dogs we come across. I never trust their owners have a firm grip so we steer wide and clear unless it's a yap dog that I can kick through the uprights if needed.
  2. Have to watch this video every time it pops up. So cute. Wish my Greycie would learn to do that.
  3. Nice picture of Scooty there. Welcome to the forums, feel free to post more pics of Scooty the Cutey!
  4. We have a Caique and a Jardines (another African breed). GreycieMae can't stand the Caique and only gets slightly jealous of the Jardines however she does know how to frighten him and make him fly into windows/mirrors. My take is, they do not like sharing their hoomans with other birds. My other birds show none of the jealousy issues that she does.
  5. he must be the coolest parrot on the block with those skillz.
  6. Once again, I side with the bird here. Example: If I came up on a bag of peanut M&Ms that were ripped open, you think I would just walk by? No! I would stop, sample, assess the damage and try to rectify the situation (by eating the rest of them). That is simply what has happened in this video. I still see a cat responsible for this crime, or maybe a dog? I don't know how all this ends up at the talons of such a sweet looking bird. Seriously - I hear a yappy dog in the background. And Talon is sounding the alarm. She's doing all the right stuff and still gets the blame.
  7. Bookmarked! I need to start doing this while I'm watching TV. I'm sure I'll have more help than I need.
  8. What a PRETTY girl!!! Happy birthday Nilah!
  9. Cat did it. It's always the cat that does it.
  10. Trust me - they do not play and share nicely like in the photo. It was the first they had seen of the new toy and Dad broke the camera out which always gets their attention. We used to have an issue with GreycieMae on the mantel. She destroyed multiple candles and were my wife's collection. I still hear about it. Those were the days before the aviary and dedicated bird room. Once the shenanigans start which is generally 30m to 1hr after wakeup they go in the bird room or the aviary. We got tired of the place getting ripped apart. We still have a problem with Baby Rio crapping on the back of the big screen TV. He loves to warm his tush on top of the tv with everyone watching him (we're really watching the TV). However that's about to get rectified as the TV is going above the mantel and I WILL have a parrot proof contraption of some sort that will ward off stray pooping hineys.
  11. Oh boy - my first thought was "they'll let me bring my parrots!!".
  12. Not a big fan of trick training. However I am trying to get Greycie to blow kisses since she kind of picked it up on her own. I find the picking a correct color, and other such tricks mind-numbingly boring myself so I don't expect my Grey to like it either. I do however like to 'train' other things like riding my bike with me. Or like another member here does: harnessed recall training. Seems fun and useful.
  13. Similar. Greycie came here at 4mos (she's 3.5 yrs now). We consider her 'healthy' with no neurotic behaviors. Her only 'issue', which is really my issue, is she won't talk. Very limited vocab but I really think that's due to she has me well trained to respond without using our language. She also hates our Caique but it's a power struggle thing I believe. No extended cage times (feeding/sleeping/timeouts) - birdy room - fully flighted - outdoor aviary - two companions (even though she hates one of them she still calls for him). Our schedule looks something like: - 7:00am wake them up - feeding cages in the living room while we drink coffee and watch news etc - then sit on Dad's shoulder and ride around while I do stuff before going to work. - 8:00 they get antsy for their bird room (they like it in there). If good weather they go out in the aviary. We all move outside and do stuff. - during the day wife takes care of them, little interaction. They have each other and their toys to entertain themselves and mostly get along well. - 6:00pm - Dad's home, Greycie goes wild with calls (makes me feel good). Tue/Thurs I get on my bike trainer, and Greycie rides my shoulder while I do an 1.5 hr workout with LOUD music (she loves this part of the day) - Ride around on Dad's shoulder and do what he does, eat what he eats, get into what he gets into. She's my little shadow. - 9:00pm birdy bed time.
  14. Mine roam free in their bird room when the weather is not good enough for outdoor aviary. I do have to lock up mister thug pants Toby (Caique) when he gets in a mood to chase everybirdy around and show them who's boss bird. I change their configuration around a lot so they don't get bored with the same toys/ropes/orbits/swings/ etc. The cages are their sleeping cages but they will put themselves in a cage (not necessarily their own) during nappy time. Here's a shot of our bird room with garage floor paint to make it easy to clean (no birds - they're in the aviary):
  15. You found the right place for Grey addicts. Tiels are sweet birds.
  16. If she turns out to be a wild thing like GreycieMae, she'll like plastic chains with bells. I found that hanging the toys from the roof above the solid playstand/cage/etc works best. Greycie's favorite toy is a plastic chain with bell near the top and one off the end of the chain. She gets going wild on that thing sometimes.
  17. I hear you! GreycieMae likes to go along the counter and slam plates, push anything over the edge and 'angrily' shakes plastic lids. Our Jardines has now picked up the exact same behavior. It's as if she taught him how to be a counter top thug. GreycieMae has picked up the 'Angry Caique' from Toby. Hard to describe unless you've had a Caique before.
  18. All we hauled home was a new hanging rope toy and a TON of the soak, sprout and serve food that we like. However, I just had to post this video of the cutest little parrotlets we saw. We had a parrotlet at one time and she moved with my daughter. They are little Amazons if you've never had one... This toy has been fought over all weekend. Can't believe how much they all like it:
  19. We nearly went bonkers waiting for it to warm up enough here to throw 'em out in the aviary. They've been out there for about three weeks now. Nothing like tired sleepy birds when I get home instead of the back alley thugs with pent up energy I normally come home to.
  20. Time for a Grey backpack! Not sure I could leave my birdy behind on walks if I knew that was going on. You could even rig up a baby walker to stroll it in.
  21. How old is the baby now? Hard to believe she'll be ready in less than a month!
  22. Go to Big Lots and get their cheap table covers. Put it on the floor underneath to capture the mess. We ditched all of our floor standing perches in favor of hanging perches - makes it easy to clean. However I still have to chase those floofies all over the house with the wet/dry vac.
  23. That cage you just listed would be a royal pain to use as a travel cage. The one I listed, we used them before we had our aviary to let the birds sit out in the sun. I locked the door shut with clips as I didn't trust them not to open it somehow. You definitely want something light to travel with. This is another option. There's always the gold standard -(ho)&ref=DF4rcI_udU6GfakKSQwtHg&kpid=ATT1214_Bronze/Sil"]$$$Kings Travel cage$$$
