Alex, my rescued 18 years old African Grey
SRSeedBurners replied to samansad's topic in Rescue Bird Haven
That's definitely play fighting. Signs of a very content little CAG. You're doing excellent with that little one. -
On Home Aviary Design, there are a couple members that grow grapes over the top of their aviarys for the birds to snack on, leaves, vine and fruit.

He better grow those tail feathers. Nothing beats that cute CAG red tail wag. -
Jeez...who needs kids. That guy was acting exactly like a two year old that needs a spanking.

My opinon only but I believe it's because they've picked who they want to be their only one and that's usually a human in the case of a captive Grey. In our case GreycieMae definitely prefers me but also interacts with my wife but will get shitty with her sometimes and territorial over me. Our Caique is the same way - prefers my wife and gets nasty with me but on occasion I am allowed to have fun with him.

Pak-o-bird makes specialty carriers for the different species. I secure the fold-n-go with a spring link/snap hook. Back before we had our outdoor aviary and they went outside in these cages for some fresh air, I didn't trust anything but a quick link. However our little Jardines can defeat those too. He knows how to unscrew them if they are loose enough to twist.

We have the Petco mink brown cage. It's a decent cage, hard to put together also too big to get out of our house without taking bird room door off. Otherwise it's sufficient. We also have the fold and go travel cage. Beware you will need to double secure the door. GreycieMae has learned to open it. The soft side - you need to make sure a Grey can't tear that one open. I know with another brand (cant' think of it right now) they make a Grey specific carrier because of their characteristics. I'm actually getting two of those soft sided carriers to transport the bad birds to the aviary. Using the travel cages is a pain and the trip is short.

Our little Raven's bush is coming back in full force again this year. It will be the third time it will bloom. I still miss her and get teary thinking about her. I still use her little photo as my avatar on my phone and email. Such a sweety and I really miss her. These birdys are so hard to lose...

While you were sleeping

Or a pick-pocket! -
My only concern is you leave her out in an outdoor cage all day during the day. Sounds like a recipe for disaster but your situation and setup may be different than ours. Do you have hawks or those two legged bastards that run around looking for trouble. I won't leave mine unattended as we have neighbors that can see them and they have people over all the time. I fully expect some day they may try and take a pot shot with a pellet gun (you know how pot smoking teenagers are) and that's when 9mm rounds are going down range - but this is Texas. Florida may be different.

467 grams at this current weigh in. She can get as heavy as 490. When we first got her she was 435-450. Someone's turned into a little piggy. Sorry for the wrong-orientation. New phone and I wasn't paying attention when I shot it.

Tinkerbell Mash - Best food by far for your Grey
SRSeedBurners replied to shanlung's topic in Bird Food
Thanks for bumping. The OP is before my time here and I've never seen it. Definitely something I would like to try. We do sprouts here but always looking for something to mix things up. I didn't know about the issue with lima beans. We take frozen lima beans and microwave or just let them thaw. Plus I eat them almost daily for lunch. I think they're pre-cooked though. -
Our aviary has 1"x2" wire and our Caique can't get his head through that much less our 480 gram flying fatty.

Trying to figure out what's included in the Prime sale. Apparently Amazon is getting razed for over-hyping this event and there's not really anything worth a damn. Pissed off amazon customers

We have Grey down feathers all over the place daily and we don't have a plucker. It's natural.

Prime 30-days for free. I've done it before and just cut it before the 30 days were up. May do it again.

Anyone else keep a little treasure chest similar to mine? Only the best little jewels make it into the collection. Easy to tell which ones came from my big grey goose. Harder to tell which midget the green ones came from.

Wow he's incredibly similar to Greycie. She does all that except the Hi boooyeeee. Her laugh is a little more girlie too. She loves the fart game too, usually I'll do it under her wing and she'll repeat it.
-
Looking dapper! I suppose those are his eating utensils all over the floor? Any idea why he's progressing? Doing something different?

My cell phone quit working one day a couple of months ago. I didn't bother getting it replaced for 1.5 months. The pressure from other people to get a phone finally sent me back into the store to get another one. It was an old phone and I pretty much hated it. I would love to say I really don't need one but these new Android phones are pretty dang neat. I just discovered the TV remote app on mine last night. WeChat, maps, woooohooo...>!!!!

What a sweety and such a cutie in her box. Glad she feels at home now.

Your example reads like the typical Avian Avenue thread. I go there to dig up info/recommendations etc. Don't much care for the rest.

Another reason I love my GreycieMae - this happened last night: I get home from my Monday evening class around 9:45. It's way past Greycie's bedtime but momma let her stay up so she can see me home. I come in through the garage and step into the living room and there's Miss GreycieMae sitting on her orbit. I start telling her Hi and she starts bobbing her head. I start to walk over and she's already craning her neck and tilting her head sideways ready to give her best birdy kiss. That's when momma cuts us off. Wifey steps up from her chair and beats Greycie to the kiss. So I see Greycie really craning her neck now trying to get a good look over mommy's shoulder. It was the cutest thing. She kept going from side to side to get the best view of my eyes to see if I was still paying attention to her. So we teased her then and just kept ignoring her. That was enough. She flew onto wifey's shoulder and forced her way down in to get some attention. She actually gave mommy a good nip later as she was still annoyed with her.

This is my favorite bird forum - maybe because the bird that holds my heart is an African Grey - I do love my other birdys though. I frequent Avian Avenue but I rarely post, just too damn many members. On Facebook I was in two Grey groups. One had 15K+ members - what a friggin mess that was. It wasn't about the birds anymore, it was chaos. I exited those two holes after a few months. I like it here. I like my Caique hangout too - maybe less than 10 active members! Just like in real life, if I'm invited somewhere and there are more people than I can handle socially (one maybe two) I'm the f outta there.

She got home on Tuesday night. The reactions from each birdy: GreycieMae - Who are you? Out of my way, where's Daddy. Romeo Rio - What's for dinner? We'll make sweet love to your toes when I get something to eat. Toby Toby - off with the cranky-pants, mommy's home. Everything is right and good with the world again. I'll see if I can set the camera up in their birdy room and see if I can capture that sorrowful coo.
