Glad you got it set up! I was sweating, thinking I was going to have to call tech support, but finally "got'r'done." Fun isn't it? That is the only way I hear all the things Timber can say, since he doesn't talk much when I'm in the room.

I feel your pain Candi, we had the same experience with Timber the last time he went to the vet (December). The first two times we went we managed to trick him, but this time he was ready for us. As you said, it really takes two. When we do manage to get him in the carrier, I'm always prepared for a hard bite. I've avoided it so far, but I'm always ready for it so I don't overreact and hurt him trying to get free.

Timber wants to "feel" everything with his beak. If he like the sound it makes (and he loves noises) he will tap on the object to hear it again. He seems to test everything with his beak. When he is on the floor (something I don't encourage), he will sweep the tile, wall or whatever is near like he is testing for stability. He will run his beak over my skin and my clothing etc. also. I always thought it was like our fingertips, their beaks are what they use to "feel" things.

Most of the people on this forum use "abundant feeding" which means the grey always has food available. I keep Timber's pellets and seed available all the time, and I give him fresh foods (chop, sweet potatoes, quinoa mix and other things he will eat) twice a day. Don't leave fresh stuff in for over four hours because of deterioration. He gets a quarter slice of peanut butter toast and a bit of egg for breakfast. I also have a veggie skewer I hang with fresh peas in the pod, broccoli, cauliflower, carrot and whatever. Does he eat all of it? Not hardly. He also wastes a lot. He does maintain his weight and gets some healthy stuff in though, which is my goal.

Don't feel silly! I was on the forum for a couple of months before lighting came up and I got mine. Live and learn. It's all good I was a total noob when I brought Timber home. If I hadn't found the forum during the first week after I rehomed him, I don't know what would have happened. He would probably still be glaring at me from the corner of his cage and eating a Walmart seed diet... Well, maybe not that bad, but we all start somewhere!

I have seen the "best pellet" discussion on the forum many times. Harrison's and Roundybush seem to top the list of preferred pellets here. My bird will eat neither. If you are feeding your bird a good, balanced diet of things like chop, veggies, a bit of protein etc., the pellets aren't really necessary. There are several threads in the "bird food" room that will give you some ideas. Good luck

They have a lot of behaviors we see as "odd." Twitching, head jerks and bobbing, the standard "bat bird" upside-down hanging from any object that will hold them, shaking like they are freezing (but apparently they are just doing a "feather adjustment"). You will quickly learn what is "normal" behavior for your grey, quirky as it may seem to us!

I don't use any scented candles (or other things) in the area Timber is in either. I do still use warmers in other areas of the house. I live in a house that was built in 1915. It is large and, obviously, not very air-tight. I try to error on the conservative side. If I am in the room with Timber and can smell a scented item from there, I move it somewhere else. That hasn't happened since I first got him and was experimenting with placement. As you said though, I know people with parrots and other birds that continue to burn candles and use other types of air fresheners right in the room with their birds. I'm not taking that chance, but it does make me wonder.

Ah, that is what I was wondering.

Timber takes awhile to get used to most things. Unfortunately, a cup of snow doesn't last long enough for him to make the adjustment!

I brought a cup of snow in for Timber to try. He stuck his beak in once, squawked and gave me the "are you trying to poison me?" look...

I don't burn candles, I use a warmer so the wick is not an issue. When I make them I don't even put a wick in.
