  1. When I got Timber's play stand, I had to put it right beside his cage. After a few days of giving it the stink eye, he got curious and checked it out. It often takes time, sometimes a lot of time, for them to accept something new. I have bought toys that he wouldn't touch for six months. I also used lures to get him to get on the playstand. Like putting a peanut where he couldn't quite reach it without putting a foot on the stand etc. In my experience, Timmy's reaction isn't unusual at all for a grey.
  2. Happy Hatchday Maalik! And we wish you many, many more
  3. LOL Sounds like "projectile pooping" to me! I remember a friend who had a baby who had "projectile vomiting." Just a tiny baby, and she could hit the wall on the other side of the room. She is fine now or I wouldn't be able to laugh about it now. It was like something from the exorcist though, and what I thought of reading M'sBabies post!
  4. I think it is what they get used to and how long they are caged each day. If you are going to be gone for several hours each day (like for work) they need more space. If the cage is primarily for sleep, a smaller one is probably fine. I prefer a big one. When I got Timber, he was in a small, rust bucket of a cage. It took a while to get him to accept his current large one. Now that he is in it, he loves it and uses every part of it at sometime or another. He is out more now that hubby and I are partially retired, but I think he likes his space.
  5. Congratulations on getting the braces off! One of those things that I'm sure was worth it when you look at your smile

Done! Always ready to help a good cause.
  7. Haaaa funny! At least now you will know when the water needs changing...
  8. I think the temp of the water your bird likes to drink is just an individual thing. Some like cold, some warm, mine likes everything at room temp. There are some medical conditions that cause a bird to drink more water than they need though, so you might need to have that checked out.
  9. Glad to hear the good news of Roxy's homecoming! I've tried every pellet I could find and nothing worked, so Timber is a nutriberry bird as well. He has lots of other stuff including a good seed mix to pick from. I strive for a good variety more than anything.
  10. Timber picks at his food off and on all day. He eats larger portions at times (like first thing in the morning) but is more of a grazer overall. That said, I can see fullness in his crop fairly often, though it isn't bulging like an unweaned bird's.
  11. With Timber, the spray sometimes encourages a bath. Once in awhile, after the spraying, he will go to his water bowl and start splashing around. That is my hint to get the glass baking dish, put a couple inches of water in it, and set it in the bottom of the cage. He will go immediately to the dish and bathe. For birds like Timber, timing is everything. I can put that dish in there every day, and until he decides he wants a bath, it just sits there.
  12. What great pics (as always) and what a beautiful baby! Welcome Kilaya.
  13. LOL Loved the video! Timber does 4 very different meows. They aren't all from my cats either. I assume he picked them up in his previous homes.
  14. I leave the TV on for Timber, usually on TVLand. He doesn't seem to care what channel, but seems to like having it on.
  15. Happy belated hatchday Inara!
  16. You must be so excited! I don't know anything about newly weaned babies, but I do know my 7 year old TAG still loves to be fed something warm off a spoon, like your cockatoo. My initial reaction is that if they enjoy it what can it hurt as long as your baby is eating a variety of things during the day? Maybe someone with baby experience will have a different view though.
  17. That is such a sweet pick! You can tell when a bird knows they are loved.
