  1. How exciting! Looking forward to seeing pics
  2. If he likes milk he might like yogurt? I've read on hear that it is good for them (Timber won't eat it). The link I posted earlier for the Higgins mix that you cook has some type of rice and I know Timber likes that. Here's another link with interesting recipes... http://www.einsteinparrot.com/kitchen/recipes/ I feel your pain because Timber is picky too. I just keep sticking it all in there. Eventually, he will stick his beak in most things. I can tell pretty quickly when he is really disgusted by something (as he is by yogurt). I give him a little scrambled egg every morning. I just whisk the egg with a fork and microwave it (20 sec, stir, 20 sec, stir and check to be sure liquid is gone). I give him a teaspoon full with his breakfast and put the rest in the fridge in a sealed container for the next day. He does usually eat that. I've also found that he likes meat, just about any kind of meat. Chicken is probably his least favorite, though he does like a chicken wing bone. I know some here don't agree with feeding meat, but Timber is underweight. My vet told me to feed him meat if he wants it, just to avoid fatty cuts. Wish I could help more, but I'm not very experienced myself! What I like about the forum is being able to hear what everyone else does. I've picked up many useful things that way.
  3. That sure sounds scary! Glad you are OK, and praying your coming test comes out well. Bless you!
  4. I give Timber about a quarter slice of toast most days with a thin layer of peanut butter. He doesn't eat it all, but most of the time he eats a little. I use all natural peanut butter that has to be refrigerated after it is opened.
  5. Timber is a very picky eater. One thing I've found he will eat is this http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=8451 He likes the Mundo Brazil. I ordered the assortment pack first to determine which, if any, he would eat. He will pick at all of them but consistently eats the Mundo Brazil. He would not eat the soak and serve, though I tried. This mix is the one I can successfully add red palm oil, hemp seed, and chia seed to and he will eat them in it.
  6. There is certainly nothing like that near my home, but I live in a rural area. Happy hunting!
  7. I just boil sweet potatoes for Timber until they are soft enough to mash. He will eat them plain, especially if I feed them to him off a spoon (ha). The point is that once they develop a taste for sweet potatoes you can sneak other stuff (like finely chopped greens) in there.
  8. I use sprout people and their sprouter too. Expensive, but so easy! I have confidence in them as well.
  9. The wheels turn slowly for greys on new things, but they do turn! Congrats to Talon
  10. Hello and welcome to you and Arnie! I no advice to add, but wanted to say hello
  11. You might try sprinkling with baking soda then scrubbing with vinegar. Having had several blood drawing bites in the early days, I feel for your wife! Mine were over tile, thankfully.
  12. I have no quarrel with the forearm step-up either. It just caused me problems when I first got him, had no experience, and everything I saw (like youtube) was them stepping up on hands. I thought I was doing something wrong! Thankfully, I know better now
  13. Timber still won't step up on my hand, only my forearm. I'm not sure what happened, but am convinced he had a bad experience with hands before he came to me.
  14. Woohoo on the brace removal! I'm really curious to see what Miss Gilbert will have to say about that when it is complete.
  15. I have the same situation here with Timber. I mean I don't think he was allowed to fledge. Dorian's flight from the floor is a BIG deal! Guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens next
  16. She's beautiful! One of the reasons I DON'T like surfing CL is because I always see something I'd like to bring home!
  17. Cabelltech, whether Gabby remains a cuddler or not is a story yet to be written! They are very different that way. Some like it, some don't. Timber is 7 and he still loves cuddling. Others here on the forum, not so much. Greys are as individual in their behavior and preferences as people it would seem.
  18. Timber's water is on the opposite side of the cage, so it is definitely deliberate. I'll watch him carry that toast all the way across the cage on a perch just to dunk it. I let him "finish" before I change the water. Like Inara, he tends to do it with anything dry or hard. Never his nutriberries or seed though. What amusing and diverse creatures they are! It is part of their charm I believe.
  19. Absolutely! I am Timber's most trusted, and he comes to me easily, cuddles, etc. But, my husband and kids (when they are here) have a different type of relationship. Even though different, he enjoys them and they enjoy him. He contact calls for them and even interacts in some ways with them that he won't with me, mostly in playing.
  20. LOL Little manipulators. Timber says "good byyyyye" in the saddest voice. Like he knows the parting is forever!
  21. I think your paranoia is absolutely normal and it will pass. Any time I have a loss (human or beloved pet) I have feelings of anxiety about the living and even dreams (nightmares) of losing others. God bless.
  22. What a great report on Escher! Glad to hear he and Pablo are doing well. As to the jealously, that is totally a grey thing (and perhaps other species of companion birds as well). Timber is jealous of the cats, my spouse, my kids, any company I have, the telephone... well, you get the drift. Anything that takes my attention from him! I'm not sure it is "jealously" per se. They just know they aren't the center of attention and don't like it
