  1. Here's one Nancy: Dawn is known to "cut the grease". I've unfortunately seen the effects of a few oil spills in my day and we've all seen pictures of those sweet innocent animals covered in black goo. They bathe them in Dawn to get through all that oil. So, if it works for them, it can work here! And it did! The problem was that I didn't do the rest of the oven. So the next day, I came up with this method of cleaning the oven. Here's what you'll need: 1 and 1/2 cups of baking soda 1/4 cup of Dawn Dish soap Water Spray bottle of water Towels Mix the baking soda and Dawn dish soap. Add just enough water to make a liquid paste, kind of like blue icing. I used a sponge paint brush to get my mixture all over the inside of my oven. It was easy to "paint" it on instead of using a spoon. Here it is; all covered in my home made oven cleaner. Now the easy part. Let it sit there for hours, over night if you want. A self-cleaning oven has a cycle of about 5 hours, so there's really no difference except this won't hurt you. The secret here is to spray it with water every few hours. Baking soda has a tendency to "cake" so you want to get the soda back to a liquid-like form. I sprayed mine twice then went to bed, woke up, sprayed with water again, then let it sit another hour. I used the scrubby side of a sponge to scrub the oven. It gets really foamy, so you'll have to clean your sponge a few times. Those gross food spots all over the oven, literally scrub off pretty easily. It won't be perfect or look brand new, but I liked my results. Once you've cleaned an area to your satisfaction, wipe off the cleaning solution with a dry towel. It will be easier than adding water and trying to wipe it off with your sponge. It just gets to soapy in there. Once my oven was cleaned, I turned it on to 350 degrees (F) for about ten minutes. This was to make sure I got all the solution out. It will cake up if you have extra and you can just wipe that off once it cools down.
  2. I can see the pic now! Nilah looks so sweet there.
  3. What great news! I am so pleased for you and Escher.
  4. LOL Cute! If I squeezed Timber like that I would be the one doing the squeaking. He loves scratches, but is very particular about how and where!
  5. I think it depends on the layout of your home. I live in a very large, 1915 vintage home with no central A/C and a boiler (radiators in each room). Timber is on the first story. I do use air freshener type products on the second floor and in the basement and I don't think any of that comes near Timber. I avoid using anything like that in his room or the ones adjoining. I agree with the better safe than sorry way of looking at things, but in my particular case I don't think there is any problem.
  6. Loved the video! Alfie has a nice assortment of sounds effects, and I like the way he uses different "voices" for different words. Thanks for sharing
  7. That's a beautiful story Inara! Thanks for sharing
  8. Fascinating! Thanks for sharing
  9. Good deal! Most of Timber's people language I have only heard via the cam. When I am in the room, he is mostly silent or whistling. When I leave the room, he talks but I can't hear much of it.
  10. That was great! Alfie is an excellent "quacker"
  11. What a story and what a relief for you to have found Gabby! Good luck with the new baby and getting Gabby "resettled." Keep us posted and upload some pics when you can!
  12. I think you are on to something there Acappella! I hadn't thought about that, but it is true of Timber too. He always preens after taking a full bath (his idea). He seems to enjoy being sprayed, but often drips dry after that.
  13. I continue to have a "yearning" for an Amazon. Timber is so needy and takes so much time that adding another bird worries me. I'm not sure he could handle the competition! However, if a situation presents itself and there is an Amazon needing a home I suspect I wouldn't say no...
  14. LOL What a great video! Kilaya looks like king of his domain in the spoon video! What a spoiled baby. Like most on this forum!
  15. I have no experience with dlink but I know it is one of the major brands. I imagine it will work fine for you! I have to say that I love being able to take a peek at Timber from wherever I am. It is so reassuring.
  16. I'm pretty sure Nancy has mentioned her grey having a thing for her son's toes.. the point being I've heard this before on the forum! My opinion, and there will probably be others, is just to let her be and let her commune with your feet.
  17. Timber is off and on with the preening. Sometimes he does, sometimes he appears to "drip-dry" as well. It probably just depends on what he feels need doing at the time!
  18. It's so cool to hear them start talking! You may have an early talker there. It certainly isn't unheard of. My first thought was that, just like a toddler saying "no" to everything, Poet will say "I don't want to" to everything you say
  19. I have this one http://www.amazon.com/Foscam-FI8910W-Network-Camera-Two-Way/dp/B006ZP8UOW/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1409337868&sr=8-2&keywords=foscam+ip+camera You can view it on any computer, phone or tablet. The setup can be a bit tricky, but I'm not a tech and I managed to do it. I didn't use the motion activation feature, mainly because I didn't know if it would work well at the range from Timber that it was an I have four cats milling around too. Sterling has a later model. Hopefully he will chime in here. I think his has more features than mine, which is older. That said, I love it! I can also record segments of him talking or doing something I want to video.
  20. That is truly horrible, on top of the finger! When it rains it pours indeed.
  21. LOL Can you imagine the temperament of an AmaGrey?
