Brand New To This Wonderful Place!
Timbersmom replied to MizNonny's topic in Welcome & Introduction Room
Hello and welcome to you and Bindi! Thanks for the comprehensive info. I'm looking forward to hearing more about you and your life with Bindi. Good luck on your move! -
No, brand doesn't matter. Mine is actually branded "Sunheat"

Mine is not an Eden Pure and I have been using it in Timber's room for two years.

A lot of truth there Jeff. I was raised on a farm, and we had a lot of livestock raised for breeding and slaughter purposes. We had dogs and cats, but they were never allowed in the house and they had a "purpose" on the farm. I had a change of heart when I was living on my own and started letting domestic animals into my home and heart. My parents, however, were very much of the "animals are animals" mentality, though they would have never been intentionally cruel to a pet. When I got Timber, I had no idea of the bond I would develop with him and how important he would become to me. I am very attached to my cats, but I have to say my bond with Timber is stronger. I can't explain it and didn't understand it before I got him. When I rehomed him, I just expected a pet bird. I did not expect to have much of a "relationship" with him. I just thought he would talk and be amusing and I would feed him and clean his cage. Ha! I do those things, but he certainly rules the roost. However, I had no idea when I got him how it would be. I also had no idea how much time, effort and money he would require. I think many new bird owners are the same as me, clueless. For some of us it works out and for others it doesn't. I don't like to see any bird or animal shuffled from home to home. However, my view is that most of the birds being rehomed have a shot at being better off. For some, circumstances make it very difficult to keep their bird for whatever reason. For others, the bird is just a living toy and is to be discarded. For those in the last category, I only hope and pray that the person who ends up with the bird is fully committed to giving them a home and care.

Yes, that is a great hoodie!

While I have read that some birds ingest plastic, Timber does not. His favorite thing to play with is a blue plastic straw from the convenience store. You would think it was Christmas... He leave little blue bits everywhere but has never eaten any of it that I can see. As to the temps, I'm no help there. I saw someone post at one time that it was a matter of being acclimated. I.e. if the bird is outside they adjust to seasonal temps. This would not really apply in your case if the bird is going from a warm house to an outside aviary I would assume. I'm sure there are limits and hopefully someone who knows will post.

LOL No worries! There was a time not long ago that someone had to explain it to me

Muse, if you are talking about rep points, you have to click the "*" button. It appears between the thanks and the triangle. Then you can give rep and leave a comment if you wish.

Good to hear from you again! I'm glad that Ruby and Malachite have resolved their differences. Keep us posted

Wow, what an interesting proposition! Think it through, but it may be a gift from God

Loved the video, as always! I am always amazed at how perfectly he has your pitch and intonation down. FYI, Timber says he wants pizza for breakfast too
-
Lovely pics and video! I have never been able to attract hummingbirds to my feeders, but my mother always had "swarms" of them.
-
Dee, that is exactly what Timber does. We call it his "alert." He does it when someone is coming in the door etc. I assumed it was an instinctual noise they make to warn the flock of an intruder or other danger. Sterling, nothing to add to the advice already given. Fortunately, Timber only does it for "cause."

He's doing great! Timber can do a bit of fir elise now, but I can never get it recorded! Tricky bird..
-
Happy hunting! I'm sure you can find an online vendor that will ship to Canada if they don't have a store there. There are probably other choices too, this is just the one that works best for me.

Wilbur does an excellent chicken! Timber's talking seems to go in spurts as well. He will go though periods when he is very verbal, then through times when he doesn't use words at all.
-
Loved the video! She was enjoying her head scratching so much.

LOL Now that could be the match of the century! Inara, I enjoyed the recap. Thanks for posting

No problems here, but I stay signed in all the time too.

I use this Higgins seed: http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=23423 There may be better ones, but I'm satisfied with this and Timber is picky even about his seed! I also sprout seed for him. I get that from sproutpeople.org. They have a good mix especially for birds and they will stay together in the sprouting process. I haven't found another sprout mix I am happy with.

Hello and welcome to you and Woody! I have rehomed Tag, Timber, who is approximately 7.5 years old and assumed mail. Makes it sound like he is in the witness protection program, ha. Can't wait to hear more about your life with Woody and to see some pics of him.

I've had Timber for almost 2.5 years now. A couple of weeks ago, I had my first bite in almost a year. Yes, I got careless and wasn't watching the "signals" he was putting out. I think he has resigned himself to the fact that I'm a "slow learner"

Happy to see your update an that Tequila is growing and thriving! Loved the pics

Here's one Nancy: Dawn is known to "cut the grease". I've unfortunately seen the effects of a few oil spills in my day and we've all seen pictures of those sweet innocent animals covered in black goo. They bathe them in Dawn to get through all that oil. So, if it works for them, it can work here! And it did! The problem was that I didn't do the rest of the oven. So the next day, I came up with this method of cleaning the oven. Here's what you'll need: 1 and 1/2 cups of baking soda 1/4 cup of Dawn Dish soap Water Spray bottle of water Towels Mix the baking soda and Dawn dish soap. Add just enough water to make a liquid paste, kind of like blue icing. I used a sponge paint brush to get my mixture all over the inside of my oven. It was easy to "paint" it on instead of using a spoon. Here it is; all covered in my home made oven cleaner. Now the easy part. Let it sit there for hours, over night if you want. A self-cleaning oven has a cycle of about 5 hours, so there's really no difference except this won't hurt you. The secret here is to spray it with water every few hours. Baking soda has a tendency to "cake" so you want to get the soda back to a liquid-like form. I sprayed mine twice then went to bed, woke up, sprayed with water again, then let it sit another hour. I used the scrubby side of a sponge to scrub the oven. It gets really foamy, so you'll have to clean your sponge a few times. Those gross food spots all over the oven, literally scrub off pretty easily. It won't be perfect or look brand new, but I liked my results. Once you've cleaned an area to your satisfaction, wipe off the cleaning solution with a dry towel. It will be easier than adding water and trying to wipe it off with your sponge. It just gets to soapy in there. Once my oven was cleaned, I turned it on to 350 degrees (F) for about ten minutes. This was to make sure I got all the solution out. It will cake up if you have extra and you can just wipe that off once it cools down.

I can see the pic now! Nilah looks so sweet there.
