  1. I wouldn't use Dawn on a regular basis it removes more of their skin oil than is needed. Save the dawn for those times they get smeared with spaghetti sauce or something and just use plain water or Aloe Vera juice on occassion it leaves them shiney and clean.
  2. You can even cut the top off an empty clean water bottle or milk jug make a hole and secure, not quite so pretty but it surely works and is cheap to replace.
  3. Thigh bones are fine as well, my Too's like those leg bones and the Greys get the smaller bones when I roast a chicken.
  4. They can definitely read our body language!
  5. Talk about watching your words, a friends Macaw has started saying "back up your sugar butt", try explaining that to company.
  6. A very good friend in another state has found that her footless Greys she rescued enjoy using ramps she placed in their cages. She took welded wire wrapped with padding and then Vet wrap to seal so it is soft on their stubs and easy to grab when they loose balance, you can even bend it to make raised sides.. Perhaps this idea might come in handy along with the other suggestions, lots of ropes to grasp and cargo nets to hang on to as well.
  7. At our house they get a chicken bone once or twice a month.
  8. Just think after all you have been through and learned how many others you will be able to share that information with in the coming years. Proud of all you are accomplishing and the brilliant new beginnings you have given these guys, good job. Making new friends along the way as well.
  9. Too funny & I know I would trip that much more often.
  10. The pinioning of wings is not done very often any more, I have worked in Zoo's and the last time I saw pinioned birds was with waterfowl rather than Parrots.
  11. No that would not overcome the prey drive if it was triggered. They might play nicely after conditioning but it only takes one aggressive move to kill a bird in an instant if something sets off that drive in the dog.
  12. They all seem to be attracted to technology perhaps the rumor that they are aliens studying us and then sending information is not too far from the truth?
  13. This was sent to me by a friend & as I have some feather destructive birds I thought it may help others. I am starting a feather picking group, to study feather picking and how to control or change it. If you have a bird that is feather picking and you are willing to put in the work, please let me know you are interested in joining. What I will be doing in this group is providing people with a questionnaire to fill out. I have two other consultants working with me at this time. (Maybe we will get more consultants to help out) The consultants will go over the questionnaires together. Then we will look for similarities and difference in each case. Next we will suggest the easiest changes to make and ask people to report back to us. Each step will be harder to implement. However, we will try to do things a easy as possible first. Then we will record which suggestions were the most successful. This way we will have an idea of the best modus operandi for feather pickers and for each species. Perhaps feeding tiny seeds and providing other foraging opportunities work best for Greys. Maybe there is a particular toys that works well for most Cockatoos. I feel that there are going to a combination of changes that need to be made for all the birds, yet their may be particular changes that have the strongest impact and that may differ slightly with species. So, anyone that joins should be willing to try the different suggestions. Any consultants that want to help out should also contact me. The number of people accepted will be determined by the number of consultants that I have to help. 14. I bought a little coffee grinder I use to grind the Fax seed before feeding or using in birdy bread, it grinds up egg shell also.
  15. Not a safe occupation for her, this is one of those times an altitude adjustment might be the best idea. Or dogs outside or restricted to another room if she is loose. It only takes one snap from a frightened or irritated Pug to kill a Grey a dear friend lost her Grey to a Chihuahua this year, a dog who had never shown any aggression.
  16. Glad to hear he had a gentle respectful of digits day. I think those bites though very painful hurt our souls more.
  17. Greywings

  18. Hey there these birds are more resilient than we think they are, they can and will adjust to the new digs and rules just keep them busy. Let them know they are loved talk a lot to them sing and play when you can. All will work out in the long run and do explain to them what to expect with the new life style sounds funny but I swear it helps.
  19. Just a cutie pie, will be interested in following his color changing abilities.
  20. Good update, fun little birds I have a friend who has taught hers tricks, so cute!
  21. MBS is a serious complication if peeking in the "other species rooms" so be ware MBS is spreading. MBS -multiple bird syndrome
  22. Remember birds are sight feeders so if they have not seen it before or seen theiri flock eating it they are not going to identify it as a food source.
  23. Joe is Daddy's boy, he knows what he wants tells you about it and knows to get there! Smart birdy boy!
