  1. Big Blue softie, got to love them Hy's.
  2. It does sound like hubby has been selected as a person to bond with, he may just be a serious bird but I know some of our more experienced with breeder bird folks will be along soon.
  3. Sorry for the illness and the loss, songbirds do not do pox very well.
  4. They have the cutest little Helium sounding voices when they learn to repeat some of our words. I love these little guys.
  5. Yes they can just like you or I can feel where it hurts when we have an injury or a skin problem.
  6. Can you describe the behaviors that are making you come to this conclusion? It might help in referring you in the right direction.
  7. So many things are toxic to these birds any room fresheners, some candles, teflon non stick cookware pesticides on fruits & veggies or sprayed around your home. Some crockery also can contain Lead or Arsnic in levels that are enough to affect them way before us. High fat high sodium high sugar foods can do damage to the liver, kidneys and heart just like us. With out having a a Veterinarian do a post mortem exam it is difficult to know if these birds carried an infection, had a genetic heart defect or were poisoned by something they are, breathed in or chewed on including their cages as some are made with ingredients containing lead or zinc. One of my Greys is 24 -25 years old now 2 of them are less than 4 yrs and one is unknown.
  8. I know what you mean and am always afraid of tripping while making that run. lol

There are alternative non wheat based pastas available such as Garbonzo bean, Corn, Quinona, Potato & and Rice.
  10. Good for him even if cannot ever achieve flight I think strengthening his muscles and skills will be a very good thing. His balance and confidence will both blossom with your helpful exercise program. do be extra cautious outside though as even wing damaged birds have been caught in a gust of wind and lost or taken by a Hawk off some ones shoulder. Harness with a light leash are a handy security device.
  11. Good job researching the history to remove the problem. Sharing this will help other who come here and join or lurk to find help for their birds who may be having their own health problems.
  12. Having the one long primary feather on each wing can be dangerous as it can get caught between cage bars or a toy and cause injury to the wing. Romeo is a good looking bird.
  13. Have read many places that ionizing filters are not good for birds, several friends swear by the Austin air purifier as far as effectiveness, longevity and ease of cleaning. Not the cheapest but very long lasting. You always place any air filter on the far side of the birds to pull the dust away from you.
  14. Looks like Pookie CAG at bath time-pouting.
  15. Avian Malaria Found in Alaska Birds Posted 9.24.12 by Mike Dunham | The Anchorage Daily News ANCHORAGE, Alaska — A new study reports that a form of malaria, generally considered a tropical disease, is being contracted by birds as far north as Fairbanks. The report was published in the science journal PLOS ONE on Wednesday. "It is predicted that malaria parasites will spread to both higher altitudes and latitudes with global warming," it says. That may not be as alarming as it sounds. Avian malaria cannot be transmitted to people. "While the parasites are related, they are not the same and it would be stretch to predict human malaria in the near future in Alaska," said Karsten Hueffer, a specialist in microbiology and infectious diseases with the Alaska Institutional Development Award Biomedical Excellence based at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. 16. Glad you heal well, I got a bite Saturday form an very happy enthusiastic Too at the Sanctuary who hates the drill we use to undo and remount her water bottle. Each side of my ring finger nail and it bled well, I though those fingers were clear but oops. Other than that she is a cuddle bug. I think Gabby is well named for sure. How many of us have birds that yell "Come here!" and mean just that I wonder.
  17. I lost two precious little grass parakeets that way many years ago, had no idea they could escape. Came home form a some event I cannot even remember and they had been roughed up and died (no punctures). Broken harted could not stop crying, sobbing, hard to breathe. A horrible dreadful day and a at the bottom feeling as there was nothing you could have done differently not knowing he would find a way to open that feed door. You will always love him and miss him and he will always live in your heart and head. If you feel like staying with us after you recover from the shock we would enjoy your company and continue to learn together about these sometimes too clever Grey companions.
  18. I would ask the alarm company if that is the best price they can manage and let them know you will be speaking to other companies as well. Competition is the American way after all and it never hurts to ask for a break.
  19. Oh that is heartbreaking, though you will no longer wonder about what happened. So sorry about the results of your search and sending you my support & regrets.
  20. Crown molding between kitchen and living room, mantle piece and several places on chairs and windowsills. Mostly cockatoo damage but the Grey flock have added a few decorative touches of their own. Sigh have to repair that damage before we ever sell, the mantle piece was the most difficult for my soul.
  21. Bubba has his own fan club now, impressive considering his former life he is a winner!
  22. He sounds a bit weak, I would go as far as you are able towards and into that tree line. Take food for him as well as water. Perhaps you can get neighbors to help look. Do call any local area Veterinary clinics just in case some one finds him.
