  1. I really enjoy reading about your adventures with the gang and seeing how fast they are feeling happy and confidant!
  2. Love those Greenwings, very nice birds with impressive size, just beautiful souls for the most part.
  3. Agreed looks like he has been a very active bird. The feathers are a greyt color and look healthy just a little been busy look about them.
  4. How old is he , what size cage was he in? A young bird often has messed up tail feathers from being on the ground so to speak, another way to get those feathers roughed up is in a too small cage or a perch that forces the tail feathers up against one of the sides where they get rubbed.
  5. Welcome and it is always good to meet more bird nuts.
  6. Since they can control that pinning perhaps a bird that is insecure or nervous could be keeping those eyes from pinning to avoid predation or aggressive reaction from a flock mate? Just a random thought.
  7. Congrats-progress I know those little steps mean a lot.
  8. Well put Ray they do become family. and like any family the veggies are always a struggle with the kids.
  9. Welcome and enjoy the adventures ahead.
  10. My heart goes out to all affected, devastating.
  11. Have a look Ray http://www.wunderground.com/blog/JeffMasters/comment.html?entrynum=2281
  12. It sounds like the Storm warnings were not over hyped, NYC subways flooded, Feet of water in lower Manhattan and many coastal towns suffering heavy flooding and storm damage. Even sending out landslide warnings due to heavy rains and winds for those areas that would be prone. I hope that those of you in these areas are safe and your birds are secure as well. It will take many months for these cities and towns to recover and rebuild all the damage. NYC in the dark
  13. Just removes the water so it concentrates what is there, does no add to it.
  14. And still people wonder why I am not a proponent of pellets, hmm.
  15. call your Avian Veterinarians and ask them they should be your best source for that answer.
  16. That should work just fine, although fresh is best it is good to be able to have the dried veggies and fruits when they are otherwise unavailable. I try to keep some dried foods in case of Tropical storms creating electrical failure down here on the Gulf Coast. Fun to add to their dry foods for extra interest and nutrition as well but do keep in mind that dried fruits are high in sugars.
  17. Murfchck has it right, just step bask deep breath and instead of trying to make you bird happy and interactive let Charlie lead the way even if that path feels like pouting to you. Just relax and go about business as usual say hello on the way by or sit quietly near the cage and just share the space and time. quietly.
  18. For you Northeasterners...FrankenSandy is morphing right now. Its going to spread out from one corner to the other to about 80 mph with 110 gusts and will be about 1400 miles across. At 45 mph they will have to pull the power even if its not already gone out to prevent fires. Your local phones will work for about 24-48 hours after it goes or they pull it. I suggest you unplug everything you like such as dishwashers, TVS, computers, etc. because they debug the system as it comes back up by just turning it on and waiting to see if it shorts out... To your detriment. Line to neutral comes back into the backside of your computers and kills the motherboards. Fridges and deep freeze I would get some dry ice and toss it in and unplug theme. Check often. Let someone else figure it out when its safe to turn it back on. Pull the main breaker outside if you have an air conditioner. Cooks the compressors too. That is inside of a box near the compressor. Same with the furnaces. Little microboards cost 120 and that is if you do the installation. Winds in the Carolinas are in the 30-40 mph category already and trees are going over on the east coast edge. I wouldn't stay in this for anything. Its going to look like a wing of B-52's had their way with the place. Wait until the winds get to about 35 before starting to think about pulling it. If the lights flicker and dim then its trees going over. It will try to come back on 30 seconds later, then 1 minute and then done. Now remember to keep plenty of food available for you pets as well and perhaps blankets to place over your cages to retain some heat in case your power does fail. Botteled water would be a good idea also.
  19. Y shaped & T branches and flat platforms are good as are Sugar glider cages as they have ramps built in and you can wrap the wire with Sisal, or Vet Wrap so she doesn't scrape her stubs on the wire. You could also make or purchase a hammock or Bird hut for her. She is lovely and we have a Timneh that has a bend backwards leg so have some experience with leg issues.
  20. Excited for you, remember to let them settle in and feel at home before trying to win them over.

    Eggs

Your bird may have been trying to feed you.
  22. Blazing Saddles and Robin Hood's Tight tights song has given us a laugh break when needed over the years. Sorry about your wounding 's and I like the Nexcare bandaids best. Smokey Joe got me Monday when I added a treat to his dish-let me emphasize "His Dish".
