  1. We need both excellent mods and terrific members to make this blog "Greyt" having one with out the other is a Fail blog. We must also thank our Grey companions and other Fids for giving us so much to work with, stories, crisis and just plain learning experiences I think they make us better humans.
  2. I would give him that little comfort feeding using a spoon. Some one else may have their own views and you will decide what works for your situation.
  3. Read those labels, some frozen as well as some canned are with out added sodium but many of both do contain added sodium and sugars. Either food will work but fresh is always best if you have a choice, you can buy when plentiful and freeze or dehydrate as you need.
  4. That is it one step at a time slowly progressing and the best part is as you go along the good moments will increase. Thank you so much for sharing these steps forward your post will help others understand the patience required to help a frightened bird become confidant and interactive with it's human companions.
  5. Hope the visit went well, poor guy it is harder to balance with out a tail. Hope he still has one, if not the will be all new feathers soon enough.
  6. Our Smokey Joe said this today as I was getting ready for work- Joe-ism just now: Where ya goin? Ok. Can I go too?
  7. Poor guy he looks like he has lost his tail. Maybe he needs a little rubber ducky instead of bubbles.
  8. Nice to hear you are learning before bringing a Grey into your home, good start! Feel free to ask any questions you may have and someone will respond but keep in mind that each bird is a unique individual and will have it's own personality & quirks that develop as he or she grows. Welcome to our little Grey home.
  9. You can add some fresh grated Ginger for more anti oxidants and flavor and some coconut juice is also a good addition.
  10. The mesh curtains should work it is what we call a visual barrier, the beaded or bamboo ones would work as well. Safety first, you are a good Parront.
  11. As the Aussies say "Good on you". It is a good thing to reach out and give some love to a "used" bird so many great ones that would enjoy a home of their own.
  12. They can mimic a kiss sound, we have one or two Macs at the Sanctuary that can "Kiss". The moaning could be a mimic as well but if it sound like an involuntary sound I would ask the Vet. There is an Amazon at the Sanctuary that makes bedroom activity sounds including some moaning .
  13. the standard for de -oiling birds is to wash with a drop or two of Dawn detergent then rinse well. It does sound like he needs a Veterinarian to care for him as some ingredients other than oil are in the hair concoction and he sounds like he is in some distress. Your bird may be a bit toxic-please get him to the Vet they can clean him safely as well if he is strong enough for such treatment.
  14. STOP THE PROPOSED APHIS RULE IN THREE EASY STEPS Look at how the APHIS rule will affect you: For those who think any "good" breeder should be willing to be USDA licensed and inspected, below is a preview (and not even the worst examples known) of what that's like once one has built a $40,000+ separate USDA-approved facility. I hope it helps *everyone* who cares about animals and people see the egregious consequences of the proposed rules. Until animal owners have "walked a mile in the shoes of a USDA licensed breeder", they have no idea of the difficulty of having a totally compliant operation. And owning or having possession of over *four* breedable (not breeding necessarily) females (of any of the covered pet species, e.g., 3 dogs + 2 rabbits) means a person must be USDA licensed. In addition, shipping *one* animal or meeting someone to deliver an animal (if the person hasn't been to your *home* to see that animal first) kicks in USDA licensing requirements. THIS IS AN ANIMAL RIGHTS-INFLUENCED REGULATION INTENDED TO DESTROY HOME PET BREEDING. We cannot let that happen!
  15. Love it! When they get tired and hungry they will come down. You can always keep a step ladder handy for emergencies.
  16. Speaking of large cages, we recently bought a huge corner cage Macaw sized. Offered it to the big Too first but after trying most of the flock in there Pookie, CAG girl claimed it as hers, does not like leaving it afraid some one else might take over. For some reason Fred Fred the E2 is allowed in to visit for a while before she chases him out.
  17. We may need to create a naked bird page, one just for pluckers & mutilators. I have one feather shredder U2 only when he feels ignored and one mutilator E2 who has to wear a jacket and neck bubble most of the time the final bird is a CAG who is a nervous neck plucker. Our own little nudist colony is growing on here. +
  18. You will have your hands full and lots of laughter with one of these fluffy pants Caiques.
  19. Bubba? Yep he is a Texas bird, waiting for the update later today.
  20. Agree the pictures are not quite definitive enough even to offer a casual opinion, get her to the Vet's.
  21. I can visualize that scene, yes there are some Great breeders out there who some times get painted with the bad person brush quite unjustly. Umbie Too's can be such clowns I will be waiting to hear how the meet up goes! I can also identify with the birdy bread routine as I spend all Friday afternoon chopping and cooking for over 200 hundred birds at the Sanctuary (my birds get some too).
  22. His progress is a lovely gift that will keep expanding as the years go by. Beautiful!
  23. Denied, darn humans, hrruumpf.
