Lol cute... I'm too short to let Yoshi be on the fridge it would be a big hassle to drag a chair over and clean the fridge of poop all the time. who knows though perhaps someday when Yoshi can fly she will claim the top of the fridge as hers -
Good job Joey! I'm sure he felt very proud

I don't have much advice as I've never taken care of a plucking bird but I wish you the best of luck! Its great that you have an aviary and Charlie can get some sunshine! Just give him as much TLC as you can and hopefully he will improve!

Funny story that just happened lol... Im on the bed with my husband and Yoshi and Yoshi was napping on my tummy... My husband had his feet folded and his foot was sticking out towards me. Well we were both wrapped up on our laptops and didn't see Yoshi wake up... Next thing I know my husband yelps scaring the crap outta me... Yoshi had lunged and clamped onto my husbands big toe... I guess she had been silently watching it wiggle and felt it was time to attack I guess the moral of this story is to be aware of what your grey is doing lol... Luckily my husband has recovered!

Post edited by: jessdecutie18, at: 2010/04/08 03:43

It seems Yoshi has lost 3 flight feathers so far, and 2 new feathers are already growing in! Little black tips are pointing out of strong sheaths. Yoshi doesn’t mind me lifting her wings that much anymore, as I’ve been doing it so much to check her feathers. I wish the rest of those clipped feathers would hurry up and fall out! She doesn’t seem irritated with her new feathers… and she is getting a good soaking 2 times a week in showers with me. It’s exciting, I want her to be able to fly The yelling is still very constant and very loud… driving my husband nuts by now but we keep either saying no and putting her in her cage (if she is yelling in the same room) and if she is yelling in another room we usually completely ignore it. Sometimes, Yoshi will be attempting to talk, making all these weird sounds, in between loud shrieks… I don’t want to say NO! and confuse her that I don’t want her to talk… it’s a bit difficult.

Typically, and you will find this in most detailed parrot books, a bonded pair of parrots are much less likely to want to bond to you. Breeder birds bonded together are notoriously aggressive to people, preferring to be left alone with each other. Since your bird is young, if you get another young bird they have more of a chance of getting along. Your bird isn't 'set in his ways' yet. But there is no guarantee as each bird has it's own personality and you will not know how two birds, be them Greys or other parrots, will get along until you see them together for a while. Keeping two in one cage, even two Greys, is a bad idea. They need to be separated at first, slowely introduced to each other... maybe someday they can share a cage. But if you get a male and female that bond in the same cage, you are most likely not going to have such an important relationship with them as they will be more interested in each other. I hope that helps! I've been wanting a Congo (I have a Timneh) so I have been looking into this stuff recently.

Looks like you've got two good lookin greys there

Congrats on your baby finally coming home Crossfit I can't see the picture unfortunately hopefully I can view it on my home computer! Isn't it fun finding and making toys for them? You will learn what he likes most with time and it will be easier Sounds to me like you are going to be a great parront

Aww I'm glad you guys have agreed to be friendly I'm sorry that things didn't work out for you two, I bet it is different around the house! That's great news that Talula is feeling some freedom and talking more! Even on days where you are sad, I'm sure Talula can make you smile Yoshi makes me smile all the time, they can be so affecionate at times. I wish you the best of luck... and don't worry about sharing 'dirty laundry' we all have it and the more people that share the load and help each other, the sooner everything is sparkly-clean again

Alright, I won't let Yoshi taste the mix anymore then, as I don't want to take risks with her. Thanks guys

Crazy... Poor Joe must be worried! Makes me wonder how wild parrots handle earthquakes... I guess they freak too especially if they haven't been in one before
-
Awe that's so sweet of her to say sorry when she thought she had done something wrong... They are so lovable it's hard to stay mad at them.

http://spacecoast.craigslist.org/fuo/1673562659.html I personally wouldn't want a cage like this, but I thought I'd share because it looks crazy. Probably not a good cage to actually house birds in though...

You know, I am going through some challenges with Yoshi getting used to the Aviator harness, but there is one tip in the video that I have been finding most useful, and not just for the harness. Thought I'd share. If there is a particular thing your bird doesn't like you to do to it, the aviator suggests doing a countdown "3...2...1" and then stop the activity. Then your bird will realize after a while that 'hey, I don't like this but I know it will be over soon'. I have actually found this works very well for Yoshi! She doesn't like me lifting her wing up very high, just enough for scratches, and pulls away if I lift them higher to look at her wing or something. Well, in just one day, by counting down to her several times and making a point to stop at one and give her a sunflower seed, she now lets me open her wings out completely, as long as I let go at 'One'. Just thought I'd share

Quick question that was brought up this morning... I made muffins and Yoshi was tasting the batter as I mixed it, seemed to think it was delicious... it was one of those 'just add water' mixes. Is a bit of that okay for them to have? I always give Yoshi half a banana nut muffin when I make these, but this is the first time I've let her chill on the bowl and taste the batter as I mix it. Thanks

I love little moments like that
-
that's cute It's cool your bird has a playmate
-
That is really cool
-
That thought brightens my day Jill
-
I agree Judy, it is pretty pathetic really

That's crazy! I think Yoshi is beautiful... we like her dark feathers. And the tail adds a bit of flare... But... you know... a rainbow bird would be so much cooler... so I'm going to buy ALL the colors and paint my birdy like a canvas!!!!!! JK

Small problems with Yoshi... need advice
jessdecutie18 replied to jessdecutie18's topic in The GREY Lounge
Thank you everyone for the advice you have given me! I will definately let you guys know if anything changes. Yesterday and today, Yoshi has been just as loud, and called throughout my entire lunch break today. My husband said he thought she was doing better this morning, but he now thinks she is doing worse. I guess we will just have to stand strong. Thank you Dave for your explanation too, and that you believe it is just a passing phase. I passed your reply on to my husband to give him hope, as he doesn't have quite as much patience with her as I do
