Poor Dusty and his family being rattled by this injury. It makes us stronger to know we can handle whatevery comes our way, but it is hard to know our loved ones have suffered. A broken nail to them is like a head wound to us, it would seem from all the bleeding. Glad you found a way to keep him calm so it could heal. Now that he is feeling better, you need to have TLC to treat your nerves too.

So does this make it official? I think it is Chocko's way of asking to join F.A.R.T and T..T.

She is lovely Bernie. Great photographer too. She looks relaxed. I thought it was too cold outside at this time of the year, you must have been having a spot of sunshine... oh wait, that is Ben. She is a little angel and I'm glad she is in your life and brought you into ours. Still Babe #7

Aww, it is wonderful to know your two are doing so well together. These are magical moments and milestones. Good job to Dixie and the rest of you for being patient with Beau and giving him time to blossom on his own terms.

I just noticed some ceramic "salt" dishes that have an opening in the front but are fully covered to keep dust out. They were in a discount store and only a couple of dollars each. When I saw them, I wondered who would use that much salt. Now I wish I had gotten a couple so they would be "bomb" shelters.

Lyn, that was magnificent! At first I thought you just played the same clip, but watching it again, I could see how the curtain was moved and she came from a different direction. Did you put it in slow motion or does she fly that slowly and deliberately? It was awe inspiring.

Oh Jill, Harvey has you well trained. I can hardly stand it. He will soon have you weaving tidy little carrot baskets, wouldn't that be lovely? Sure!
-
That is just too funny. It would be much easier to climb to the top of the cage with a stash under his wing than to go up and down for every bite. LOL. What a clever boy, good job Earl.
-
Oh why is it so uproariously funny when someone else's bird is clever and determined? Mine is an angel... sleeping with a head tucked under his shoulder, bless 'im. Sorry to laugh, but if we could have just seen the look on your face when you came in the door. Could you just reinact that and have a photo session for my blessed little heart and pointed little head?

You all just keep me hopping to try to get ahead of Juno. I heard about the remotes and found an acrylic hinged box to put mine in. My guess is they won't stay in there, but it was a good idea to start out. The day I saw the chat about the door frames, wouldn't you know Java flew right up to ours and I had to chase her with my crooked little wicked stick. I think my next investment will be a miter saw so I will go ahead and start making new door frames. Maybe we could figure out a way to just velcro them in place to put up when we have guests.... LOL.

Juno rediscovered his tent today and has been sleeping all day. He hadn't gotten into it since he shared one with his brothers. For him to be sound asleep in the middle of the day tells me he is feeling safe. I am beginning to think I will need to add a nap to my day to keep up with him later. He let out a series of hmm... what was that... just grey squeals I guess. The stand came from the wild bird store where they have seeds, bird houses and other outdoor gear. I loved the look of it and asked about it. It was sold by a distributor as a display stand, but the wonderful owner looked into purchasing one for me and sold it to me at cost.

Thanks for sharing Spiky with us Jill. While it is sad for those of us who miss them dearly, I like to think of our pets who have gone on ahead of us as living happily on a lark watching over us. He had a charmed life, was well loved and paved the way for Harvey by helping you get over that perfect house business. LOL. I didn't need much encouragement to stop and enjoy the day instead of cleaning and getting ready for the next one.

It is interesting how the days were dragging while I was awaiting my little one's arrival, but now that he is here, how this week did fly past. I'll get out my locking sippy cup and put it by my chair so if I ever sit down tonight, I'll be reminded to T..T. Funny enough Jill is the one to remind me... my cup is a leftover from Halloween and it has a picture on it that I will call Jill! LOL.

Will add some toys today and get another picture when I figure out how to create a floor liner. This looked a LOT smaller in the store than it does in my living room, but it is rock solid and he loves it already.

What a difference a day makes. Juno is warming up, he is content to step up, ocme out of his cage and have a walk around to survey his kingdom without feeling the need to fly back to his cubby. Late in the day, I got a call that his playstand arrived. When I put it together and put him up there, he didn't want to come back off it again. So, now I have been initiated with a firm clench on my finger. It ached all night, but was only minor. I pulled his beak off, put him back in the cage and it was not an upset or issue for either of us... just testing. Later, he was doing so well, I moved him to his big boy cage and he loved it. He rewarded me later when he flew around the room, out to the kitchen and back to land a little clumsily onto the hem of my shirt, then climbed up to my hand and happily went back to his cage.

Juno is a night owl, I might like to call him Hootie on occasion. His former schedule was to stay up until 2 am for a surrogate daddy's night shift return. Last night he got happy and wild and encouraged me to stay up way past my bedtime. It was the most interest and interacting he has wanted with me. I did have the restraint to put him to bed while we were still having a positive experience. I think it is good that he is losing only 2 grams per day so far with all his changes, he has refused my offer of night time formula, so tomorrow I will mix some into his oatmeal. Only a couple of days to get his vet check confirmation that his wing is not causing him pain and then I will feel better about him being out. The last four times he stepped up and came out of his cage, he didn't try to fly back at all. I really couldn't be as relaxed with him if it were not for all your posts, advice, experience and encouragement. Thanks!!!

They are so cute perched side by side sleeping. I just got Juno, he is five months and right now I am just the prep cook getting the eye of appraisal and an occasional peep for bringing the right tidbit. It will be fun to hear how they grow up together.

Finding this forum is the best thing we did for Java. While we were a grey-in-waiting, the videos made me laugh while she sat on my shoulder and learned that talking was a good thing. Now, she has a little playmate and he shares all his good stuff with her and she couldn't be more pleased. I was really afraid it would be hard on her to get a second bird and it has been the best thing ever for her so far.

Welcome to the forum. I look forward to hearing all about Jack's life and personality. We also have a new little guy and this has been the best place of support, information and friends. Thanks for joining us and becoming part of the forum family.

These are all good suggestions and will help me too. At first I thought Juno's nails were really long, but today when he stood flat on the table, it does not lift the tip of his toe off the flat surface, so I guess he just has really big feet and long toenails especially compared to our much smaller bird. We did get a cement grooming type perch and I will put it near something like a food or water dish so he passes by it every day but not at the higher level where he would sleep on it.

Thanks for being my village to raise this boy. Dan, it is easy to say you want to do this again once you have had the experience to see how it all turns out. Not many things in life have rattled me, but I suddenly know how little I know about bringing this boy up to be gr(ey)cful and decent. No amount of reading and preparing does prepare us. He refuses his night time feeding from me, but since he is eating everything in sight, I won't let it deter me. I weigh him every morning and he is holding his own. He really seems content and compliant. Just wait until he has been to the vet and I give him his first bath. I might want to make those sticky buns first. LOL
-
Hey, don't direct my mind to the gutter and snatch it back so abruptly, you gave me whiplash Dan. Are these really for the birds... and do you freeze them or let Dayo have them all while they are fresh?
-
Bernie, you boys are all alike. When I paid too much attention and sympathy to your thumb to my husband, he ran right out and worked outside until he came in with three gashes in his leg about four inches long. He just had to get the attention back, it is tough to keep the babes. I was busy with my new baby, didn't have any guaze so he ended his adventure with a maxi pad held in place with Juno's vet wrap. LOL. What's next?

Thanks for the encouragement Judy. I have moments when I get consumed with fear that he might not like me. Of course that is not true. He just needs to confirm that we are worthy and we have some tough shoes to fill from his previous home. They have decades of experience and this is my first. I have learned that holding his feet and keeping him steady helps him. It is like holding your newborn for the first few weeks and being afraid you are going to break them. LOL. I am savoring the quiet because once he starts sitting on my shoulder reading about Harvey and Dayo and some of the other boys, he will get ideas to keep me on my toes wishing he was quiet and still again. I am keeping busy, cleaning my pantry and kitchen cupboards so he sees me moving around and it keeps me from hovering and being too obnoxious to him. LOL. I may have heard my husband telling him that it is his job now to make me know my place. LOL. Okay, I just made that up.

Aw come on Lyn, live a little on the wild side. Your hair will always grow back. Think of the bonding experience to be look alikes when Tom comes home. LOL. If you go first, I will let her do my hair next.
