  1. Thank you, a Greyt post, as a side note: If you use "Aloe Vera juice, don't dilute, it already has water in it, check the labels.....Thanks
  2. I made a statement to Munch, I was referring to you! Once again in this post you've stated what I must do! "Remember, we all have opinions and must be respectful". I'm glad everything works for you, your way doesn't for me. Practice what you preach!!! To munch, a sincere apology, but I don't agree with what you did for the reason you stated. To all members, Sorry.....
  3. Hi, suggestion, stop the use of the Walmart seed mix and cookies.[anything with salt or sugar] You can try Kaytee mix without sunflower seeds, Volkman safflower mix, Royal large hookbill, The only safe walmart food is the Universal blend Medium /Large Hookbill, It is safest to only buy seed mix's without peanuts in the shell....Walmart, Aloe Vera Juice,[1 gal] make sure to refrigerate after it is open.....
  4. Humph, Our mobile has wood paneling, Swiss cheese style! Salsa can start a hole where no hole has been before....Would you like to borrow Salsa to add some air holes to your walls? The 3 of them could get along great....
  5. LOL Salsa sounds like a Evil Green Chicken, haha, That's Salsa's favorite sound. When Maggie sings Old McDonald, an says "on this farm he has a SALSA," Salsa starts clucking....lol
  6. Thank you so much. You need to have your baby checked by a Avian Vet for medical reasons. Use the spray and aloe juice daily (not aloe gel, it is too thick and gooey). Please, when you take your baby to the vet, have the beak checked. Thanks, Jay (I'm going to bed now, talk to you later lol)
  7. Don't trim his beak! Has it gotten any better, bigger, smaller? How long have you had him? Jay
  8. I just took a closer look at the photos. How long has his beak been that way? Jay
  9. Thank you, Don't laugh but do you have a Walmart store there? They carry aloe vera juice. For now, do the bathing, try to keep him cool in the 78 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit. What you want to do is to keep him busy or occupy him so he won't think about plucking. New toys? Keep him out of drafts but it doesn't hurt to spray him with cool water whether he likes it or not. Thanks, Jay
  10. Hi, welcome to the forum and thank you for posting. To start with I suggest to mist him using a spray bottle and cool purified water. If you can get aloe vera juice from a pharmacy or health store (it is liquid, not a gel, it's just aloe vera, water and maybe a little lemon or citrus) It is better to buy it pre-made then to try to make it yourself. Mist him daily with water and then with aloe juice. Then you need to make an appointment with an avian vet to find out if it is a medical condition. Even if it is a medical condition, the bathing and aloe will not hurt him. It is 12 midnight here...most members are asleep lol but I am sure that you will have many responses. Dave007 is our expert on plucking. Please let us know your Grey's age and has anything changed with his diet or cage? Is it hotter or cooler, air conditioning or heater? Thanks, Jay
  11. There is a lot of great advise and suggestions posted here from our "greyt" members. There are a lot of intelligent parrots (almost every one of them) but our Grey holds the honor of being the most intelligent, thanks to Alex and the continuing research that is going on.
  12. Thank you, you have a long road ahead of you, patience and time is required, not a behavior specialist.Your Fid has a lot of baggage, and will only bring out a little at a time. It's very possible he had a male abuser, don't work on the past, only the future... Unlike a human, bird psychology isn't a proven subject, we have to treat each issue on it's on merit. A Grey hold on to his badage far longer then a humam, they don't cry, they just remember.. Don't use words or sentences [names] from his past, slowly remove his old toys and replace with new ones, but keep his old cage.Do a lot of talking read and sing to him. Find a new treat, something he isn't used to, just from you.. Here's something to read http://www.greyforums.net/forums/showthread.php?190309-A-note-on-Punishment-and-your-Parrot Please believe me, time is a must..Be your own behavior specialist, every one here will help, don't give up.......
  13. Hi, Thank you, There's a few post on plucking right now, check them out...Have you had a Vet check him for a medical reason to the plucking? Dave007 is our resident expert on plucking....Thank
  14. Yes Nancy, we all have different opinions, and we all back them in different ways. Proper training of the handler as I stated, out rules what one's personal opinion is. Yes some are right, others aren't! Some of us have companions, others have a family pet. We can respect in the point to agree to disagree. You have to respect the right for another to give a opinion, not necessarily the opinion itself! this Only my opinion..Research!!!!! Jay, Sorry everybody.........
  15. You answered this one yourself, good job, petroleum jelly and other ingredients is the problem, Cream is water based, and doesn't last as long, as such is safer for our parrots, you use very little...Thanks Wingy...Jay
  16. To start with Munch, you didn't do what is best for your flock, you did what was best for you. How will clipping help? The Grey get's on the floor gets bitten by the dog and dies, problem solved, clip em..Pay back is a bitch, your puppy is growing, what then? The problem is training, get a book, ask the forum even if Munch doesn't agree with these experts...Ist lesson, When any parrot is out, no other animal should be roaming free until every one is trained...To mame is never the answer...Jay This is my opinion backed by scientific study, not that of other members.......
  17. Joe: Finger...Mundo Brazil by Higgins, [cook and serve] ZuPreem Nut blend
  18. Judy knows what shes talking about, you can also rinse with Hydrogen peroxide mixed with water 10 parts water to 1 part Hydrogen peroxide [10oz water, 1 oz peroxide] then rinse with water again and apply the aloe gel. If you fear infection, use Neosporin cream, [not ointment] You can always count on what Judy advises.....
  19. Thanks...Here's some more: http://aparrotscove.com/TheNursery.html http://www.birdsnow.com/parrottexas.htm http://birdbreeders.com/breedersinTX.aspx
  20. I love 'TOO's, all of them, but some put macaws to shame.. A "TOO greets each morning and sunset with a bright I love you hello, some louder than others, and when they want attention, they let you know loudly. A Citron is like a sulpher-crested, a Ducorp's can be some what fussy, a Bare-eye is a good choice. No "TOO is hard to care fore, just give them love and attention. A Mealy Amazon might be a good choice. Thanks Jay http://www.avianweb.com/citroncockatoo.html
  21. Maggie here...when we opened Spock's door in the morning, we would always hold him at arm's length and one of us would yell "Bomb's away!!" and hope it didn't splatter on us when it hit the ground. For Spock, being Hypoglycemic and eating ten times more a day than your average Grey (all carbs)(His crop would empty in under 2 hours) so it was bombs away all day long. Joey comes in a close second. Salsa's a lady....
  22. We are so sorry for your loss. We know it is like losing a child. Our prayers are with you. Jay and Maggie
  23. Hi, I wouldn't worry too much about your baby's feet. A sick bird should be kept in a room with a temperature around 78 to 80 degrees. An ideal parrot room temperature should be 72 to 76 degrees. These temperatures winter, spring and fall are cool to us humans. But so to a parrot. The main concern with any parrots is drafts, chills and rapid rise/fall in temperatures. A parrot's body heat is regulated by their feathers. When it is warm to hot, they hold their wings away from their bodies to cool down. If they are cold, they scrunch down and get the most feather area that they can. If all else appears okay, I wouldn't worry about the feet temperature unless they are extremely cold and you see other signs of distress. Heated perches sound nice and appear to be a good idea. The problem is, it is like setting your bird on a hot plate. It heats their feet first and then works its way into their body like a conduit. You don't want him dancing around going Hot,Hot,Hot,Hot,Hot!. LOL...During the daytime, your UV light at approximately 14 to 16" away from his perch will keep the daytime air chill-less and a cage cover at night will keep the air chill-less. Most parrots, including Zons can adapt and acclimate to a wide range of temps from quite chilly to quite warm. Again, the main concern, a rapid drop in temperature will cause a parrot to be chilled. Thank you, Jay

    Won't settle down

Your doing Greyt, Play some music, cover the cage, don't make to much of a fuss right now.Keep a lot of seed and pellet/water in the cage. Make sure he gets 10hr's of quiet sleep time, when you walk by him talk, try whistling. Be patient and calm, Greys don't like loud noiseor excitement....Thanks Jay
