santino wrote: Quick Answer! No! Only joking!! There are many dangers that our birds can stumble on. I found this article particularly useful in the early days: http://www.greyforums.net/health--nutrition/home-hazards.html As for protecting your possessions - it's a case of keeping an eye on them at all times when they are out of their cage. Many owners don't have door frames, cushions etc due to their darlings taking a fancy to them!! Once you get your grey you'll realise just how precious these babies are - and I look forward to seeing yours <br><br>Post edited by: JillyBeanz, at: 2009/12/05 17:58 -
Because you have offered her your shoulder and let her reside there, she is quite happy there and thinks this is "her place". The shoulder is normally progression - after they've accepted the "step up" command. She isn't biting when refusing to step up - so this is a great sign. When she bends her head down, just put your hand under her beak and gently press at her chest area - just to knock her a little off balance - she will probably then reach out and step up as she needs somewhere to go. Sometimes Harvey lowers his head when he can't be bothered (although I don't usually need to ask him to step up - he offers) and I just adopt the measures I have just described. It honestly works

It great when you get good customer service - and nice when people advertise someone has been nice (I think nowadays we are a blame nation and only complain)! I've read about the DVDs - but never actually heard anyone "real" say they've used them - I might look into it now though as you say how good they are! Thanks for this info

Ha Ha Ha!! I love the way she's bossing her toys around and telling them to step up!! The chicken is hilarious!! She sounds like one!! Look at Beau!! Those feathers are all fluffy on his chest!! Great video Robin xx

Hold on!! I didn't open this thread as a worship site!! My wild week starts Monday - no Judy to keep me in check Janet - do you want to become my surrogate mother!!!

Goodness me are you going out every 15 minutes or so - because Harvey needs taking to his playstand to poop every 15 minutes - he is, mostly, potty trained. He only refuses because you have him accustomed to practices you describe. Leave him in his cage and you will see he will go when he needs to - he won't "explode". He is still a very young bird and easily remediable to change. Harvey doesn't like to mess his cage either - but when forced to (such as one overnight stay we had away from home) he had to "go". Additionally - just because Monty is clipped doesn't mean he can't escape. If he is frightened or caught by a gust of wind he will be able to get away. I personally would leave him in his cage just to show that he will go - it might take quite a while - but it will show you that he won't make himself poorly. Good luck - you can't go on for the next 40 - 50 years taking a parrot out to poop every 15 minutes!!! I've trawled the forum for the article I found particularly helpful: http://www.greyforums.net/forums/training/109-potty-training.html#109<br><br>Post edited by: JillyBeanz, at: 2009/12/05 18:12

Judy's just told me that she won't have access during the day to come on the forum - meaning that it will be difficult for her to keep up to date with her friends from different time zones (particularly us in the UK as she is five hours behind us). She will miss out during the week - so what about a nice little message summary of what's happened during the day for her to read when she comes home!! Weekends are fine - we'll see her then though! Well, what is our loss is someone else's gain So come on - keep her updated!!!!

Bah! Tried it once Caroline - come on Pinocchio - I can see your nose growing from here!! :woohoo:

ramsabi wrote: Oh yes - Harvey is the World Champ! Myself and Ramsabi share a specialist interest in how far from a 42" LCD TV your parrot can throw any food type and ensure it sticks to the screen!!!

Oh my goodness Bernie!! I can nearly see the little man walking about!! These shots are magnificent - it's scary to think how far that the moon really is away - and how fantastic your shots are.

You definitely need a drink Dee - go for it!!! Oh yes Sheila - I stop at one nowadays (basically because I can't take any more hangovers!!!)

Ha Ha Ha!!! Sticks and stones may break my bones..........! WHERE'S THE BLOODY BOAT!!!!

What a great poster! I think I shall print it out and put it on my wall as a reminder of what Christmas is all about - ONLY JOKING!! Thank goodness it is Friday! I've been really good and not had a drink all week!! Gosh, I sound like a proper alcholic don't I !! Oh well, who cares! TONIGHT I WILL BE HAVING A NICE BOTTLE OF WINE!!!

Dave007 wrote: I couldn't get back on here last night - but looked on my mobile for responses as I was not at home and saw this. I cried laughing! Thanks Dave - so straightforward - but you know we think alike!!! My mind is at rest! Lyn - this is the woman in us - we like things tidy and symmetrical! The last one was a beautifully formed full feather from quill to tip - this is a chewed off mess!!! Nevertheless - if my guru says it's fine - then it is!

Carol you are too creative for words - if it's not toys it's decorating!! Never mind your fids - rent yourself out for the kids! Nurseries could be painted etc!!

I have never ever seen one of those machines before (have I led a sheltered life!!!). Janet - these look absolutely fantastic. The colours are so prominent - they are usually completely lost when you buy the product!! As well as being cheaper you are safe in the knowledge that the product is 100% natural with nothing added. Karma to you for introducing me to a what? dehydrator!!

Oh three days is a moment in time compared to the rest of your bird's life!! These birds aren't like puppies who will go to anyone who love them - they choose who they want as their best friend. It is a risk that you take when bringing an African Grey into your home - you might not be the one. My husband was the one who prompted a grey - and unfortunately for him (but not for me) I'm Harvey's favourite! Small steps are needed here - talk to him, befriend him - but don't push it! Welcome to the forum - go and tell us more about yourself in the Welcome Room.

Oh Pat - what a predicament! You know you did the right thing - and obviously we are all reassuring you of this. Your other birds are so lucky to have you - but to divide your time even more would be so difficult. You have done enough!!!

Harvey had a "bent" tail feather for about two weeks and a couple of nights ago he dropped a beautiful, cleanly manicured "quill" onto the floor. Tonight he has been sitting on my knee and I noticed another one "bent". I didn't pay it too much attention as I know they work their own way out. He's just turned around and the feather "fell out". This is the problem - it looks very untidy and obviously some of it is still stuck in his behind. Is this a problem - will it remedy itself or do I need to take him to have it remove (not that I can see where abouts it has come from). Here's the picture to give you an idea of how untidy it is. Thanks for your help in advance

Fab pictures Janet! Ana Grey is a proper little swimming star! I've never seen them bathed in water before (only a shower)! I think if I try that with Harvey the water will be up the windows and everything!!

Don't worry - we read it that you'd found it - not that you were going to give it!!

Great to hear that Angel is recovering - keep us posted and don't become a stranger just because we've been here in your hour of need!!!

Ha Ha Ha! I love your signature!!! They both look like butter wouldn't melt normally - so these Santa hats just make them look angelic!!!

It is so dangerous for a human to take any herbal remedies purchased from herbalists, internet etc - we have had patients go into kidney failure after taking such supplements!! I have to laugh at such "remedies" - if people are stupid enough to take on an animal without checking how they will act (birds squawking etc) then they shouldn't have the pet in the first place if they feel that they need to surpress their natural instincts!! I am in full agree with you skmunson - it is their very nature to be noisy/disruptive/destructive.....

Hi, Glad you found this forum. People don't tend to actually sell babies here on the forum - but hopefully someone in your area will be able to advise of a local breeder for you. I hope you've done your homework and decided whether a grey is right for you - they disrupt your "normal" lifestyle immensely and things will never be the same again! Saying that - I wouldn't be without Harvey - even if it means I get up earlier to get his fresh food sorted, rush home quickly on an evening to see that he is okay and let him out of his cage and don't now tend to go away for weekend breaks - as it's just too much hassle!!! Good luck!!
