  1. The number on the ring is their registration number with your local parrot society (I'm in the UK so Harvey is registered with the UK Parrot Society). The year of hatch is on the ring in the UK (ours say UK __) but not the exact hatch date then the number is registered to your breeder and then yourself. I received a birth certificate with Harvey outlining his hatch date though.
  2. It's such a shame that you had to travel such a long way, especially on a recommendation, that it didn't turn up trumps. Perhaps your normal vet will have a different view on this?
  3. ecodweeb wrote: Goodness Chris - if this were the case in the UK we wouldn't have our babies!!! It never stops raining!!!! Harvey gets moody if he hasn't had his full sleep allowance - he's always in a much better mood at the weekend when he's had his full 12 hours!
  4. Poor babies! Harvey isn't scared of anything - I don't have problems introducing new toys or, obviously, the chicken bones (which he would kill for)! You know what they say - if at first you don't succeed......in this case don't try again!!!
  5. Ha Ha! We have more chance of you catching the Loch Ness Monster and chopping that into the pot!!
  6. katana600 wrote: LOL - no you won't! I'm nearly a year in and so far Harvey has had - plucking problems, feeding problems, respiratory problems, behavioural problems and stomach problems - actual none of which are real or diagnosed - just all in my head! This week he's back to plucking - which is a lie - he is moulting and all of his pin feathers are coming through! So, let's look back in a year and compare notes!
  7. pearllyn wrote: Lyn! I am a strict vegetarian - we are having a little barn dance - not animal stew!!! I may share my good looking farmer with you all - if you are lucky!!
  8. Sharmun I'm with Char - you don't need to tube feed a 9 month old parrot - or indeed give it baby food. All the fresh fruit and veg available in the Maldives and you're giving your baby processed food!! You obviously are still using the tube if you think that Buddy has swallowed it. Let your baby eat on his own
  9. What an absolute cracking photo! I love it - my giggle of the day - karma for such a great shot of such a terrified Yorkie!!!
  10. Harvey will be one on 18 December - ONLY A YEAR - I've aged immensely!
  11. That's good news kisses - you won't regret it. It's so lovely when you've had a bad day and you baby senses it and flies to you for a little cuddle - the downside is - nowhere is out of bounds!!! You will play the retrieval game regularly - I wouldn't change it for the world!!!
  12. Hi and welcome to the forum - you sound like you have quite a collection there! It'll be lovely to find out some more about you all
  13. And here's the host! Old McDonald! Now, where's everyone gone? I thought we were having a Hoe Down
  14. If you look on You Tube and the likes the only thing you see if you type in "parrot" are the ones who talk, mimic, dance, do back flips etc etc - they look a great purchase - let them out and they are born entertainers. Perhaps some of us with "vandalised" property should film some of that and bang it on You Tube - I think some people would definitely reconsider
  15. She is beautiful - what absolutely stunning colours. I agree with Pat - It has been proven that as kids, serial killers or violent criminals often started out by maiming or killing animals. I hope his parents are prproud of their little "darling". I know what I'd chop off belonging to him and it's not his hair!
  16. Supernova wrote: I'd think long and hard about this one Toni - he's very demanding
  17. I feel a song coming on! Old McDonald had a farm (altogether now) EE I EE I OH!!!
  18. I hope you have the receipt - otherwise, I'm afraid you are stuck with your chicken!! I have a seagull - so if you fancy a swap sometime.....!!
  19. Harvey's had a scotch bonnet - ate it no problem - their little cake holes aren't the same as ours - but the chemicals released are the same. I don't think that there's any proven science in parrots - but definitely in humans!!
  20. His face is a picture - he's saying "hey, what am I doing out here - mmm, I think I might like it here". Great video - Mocha's beautiful xx
  21. Hello Piper - welcome to the forum. When I read your posting I was saying "check", "check", "check" in my head - as everything you describe is the same in my house! Harvey is the same age and is indeed as mischievous! When Harvey is out of his cage (which is all of the time nearly that I'm in) I have one eye on him and one eye on what I'm doing (oh I sound so attractive)! He gets put in his cage when I'm ironing - this is about the only activity he doesn't take part in! Looking forward to learning more about you and yours (and compare notes)!! Jill x
  22. Tracey - don't let your baby eat too many, contrary to other postings on this thread they do have their downsides. The heat in chillies comes from a family of chemicals called capsaicinoids, which are made in the stem and stalk and are found in the seeds. When eating chillies the body releases endorphins which gives a natural "high" - which in humans may be tiny - but I am sure that the same endorphins would be released by a parrot - it's a reaction to the capsaicinoids. I know you weren't going to stuff Dex full of chillies - but just a bit of science!!
  23. What a lovely name - I've never heard of it before. I'm so jealous of these fab places I hear about!! Can't wait to see some pictures
