  1. Oh he is so beautiful! What a fine specimin and he sure knows it lol! Happy hatchday Lyric! Go on, spoil him, you know you want to...
  2. You say you have a loud house but if you've had her for 2 years she should be used to that by now unless the noises are sudden and frightening to her. Mine came from a pet shop which is also reasonably noisy but then he was and is a baby. Judy has picked up on a very good point though when she said it is usually only babies that are cuddy birds, yours is getting past that stage now. Most (not all) members of this forum have babies or very young parrots.
  3. Do you towel her often? Maybe this is the cause - fear of having this done? I wouldn't recommend doing this other than when completely necessary. Does she eat well normally or is she just afaid of it when you offer it by hand? She does sound a little wild.
  4. Koko is so sweet and obviously enjoying playing with her new toys - bless!
  5. Don't feel alone, what you see on here is only part of the story, all greys have this side to them. Beau takes it out on me also when my son gets too close to him. They take it out on the ones closest to them when they get frightened. You will need a lot of patience and persevere with her. Have you tried to coax her with food? The way to a parrot's heart is through their crop lol! I'm sure Dave, Dan and Judy will chime in with their ideas as they are far more knowledgeable on parrots than me but please don't get dispondant.
  6. Haha, poor you but how can you be angry with such a cutie
  7. Welcome Natalia & Ganzha, what a fine-looking grey you have there. There's enough information on this site to keep you busy for some considerable time, enjoy reading!
  8. Oh dear that doesn't sound good. Not a company I'd want to buy from. Thanks for the info and I hope you get your money back.
  9. What a beautiful baby you have there Renate.
  10. Parrots see mirrors as a continuation of the room and not an obstacle, windows are much the same to a parrot, they do not see the glass and think they are flying elsewhere. Try covering the mirror with a towel or a sheet and put stickers on your window/s or hang a beaded curtain if you don't want to draw the blinds. We have put up a faux cristal beaded curtain which actually refects light into the room.
  11. Jill is quite right, when established flyers they learn to take evasive action. Please think very carefully before clipping, it is a decision not to be taken lightly.
  12. What a lovely story, smart bird. Thanks for sharing.
  13. Thank you Spinner, karma to you. I'm expecting mine to come today but it hasn't arrived yet. Do you know if they are expensive to run?

  15. "I'm really beginning to get the hang of this human language, I mean, I kept saying the word kiss over & over during my usual birdy chatter today and my mum was soooo pleased with me, this coming a few days after mastering the Argyle word - some rubbish football team my Mum isn't too happy with at the moment apparently, oh by the way, I seem to have aquired this hairline scratch across my beak, not sure how I got that, nothing serious I hope"

  17. Amazing story and a lesson to us all, you can't be too careful with your baby. I'm so happy you have your little girl back.
  18. Oh I SO know how you feel. My two eldest are both in the armed services and living away. Sending poitive vibes your way and his too! {Feel-good-000200BB}
  19. ..does your grey eat and how much gets wasted? I've noticed that Beau wastes huge amounts of food, certainly enough to feed another parrot lol! I see huge lumps of cauliflower, carrots (one of his favourites)etc on the floor of the cage, sometimes when he is eating I can hear it drop when I'm in the other room. He is pretty good with his parrot mix but he won't eat small pieces of his Harrisons in fact I recon that he eats only about 10% of what I give him - with the exception of the parrot mix. This I find very wastful. I guess when I get my Hahns he can just have Beau's scraps :ohmy: :laugh: and could easily live on that. One thing that does please me is that if anything gets dropped it doesn't get eaten from the floor of the cage or the grid at the bottom. Are all parrots this wasteful or is it just mine lol!?
  20. OMG not another member from Virginia, you are taking over the world! Just kidding Adam, hello and welcome to the forum. You are sooo lucky having a grey as a gift, you are in for some good times together for sure. I love the name "Bismark". Look forward to reading your posts to see how you guys gel. B)
  21. This is a very important thread, so much so that it has made me purchase a humidifier from ebay to take me through the winter months. I will probably only use it in winter and when the heating is on (twice daily) as during the summer it is reasonably humid here, we are on the coast and the windows are usually open. I was very surprised by how cheap humidifiers are to buy as I thought they'd be expensive and beyond my means. This is the one I've bought: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Alaskan-Portable-Ultrasonic-Humidifier-HUM-35-45-A_W0QQitemZ330348044385QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Home_Garden_Hearing_Cooling_Air?hash=item4cea472061&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14 Thank you Dan for making us all aware of the potential problems of dry air not just to our greys' health but to our own as well. Karma to you.
  22. I've always known you have to be really careful when trimming the nails but I wasn't aware of any blood supply to the beak, I thought beaks were like nails or hair and you could trim away 'till your heart's content although I hasten to add I wouldn't attempt to do either! Thanks for the warning and I hope Lulu is better now. That picture was so scary!
