1. Our newest little sweetheart is settling in really well. Today I decided to lift his cage off the stand in order to clean it properly - whilst he was on the outside of it lol. He didn't attempt to bite me and when I'd finished and was putting everything back together he hopped onto my shoulder, then onto the curtain and back onto my shoulder. He sat there for about 30 seconds and at no time attemped to bite although when I approach his cage he still backs away and twitters loudly as if nervous. I had a good look at him today whilst close and he is is excellent condition, his feet and his feathers look so healthy. He was obviously well looked after and loved by his previous owner. The cage and toys he came with were spotless and the toys plentiful. He is amazingly pretty - a gorgeous shade of green with a darker green forehead. His "shoulders" are red and the underside of his tail feathers are yellow. I am so pleased we got him and he seems to be happy in his new home. When he is out I cover the top of Beau's cage in case he lands there and Beau takes a nip of his feet lol! Beau has become less nervous with him and is now eating normally (he ate very little the first 24 hrs :-() All seems well with my two babies. Our family is now complete. A question, when (or if) should I allow both birds out of their cages together? This would be better for me and probably for them too. They show no signs of agression towards each other and they seem to (birdy) chat together. Yesterday when calling Beau back to his cage, Argyle copied and joined me in saying "come on then" - hillarious.
2. It just goes to show they aren't simply repeating words and sounds they hear, sooo intelligent.
3. Poor little Akima, she looks such a sweetheart in the video. You must be so upset, I'm so sorry
4. Oooh the little
5. Corol, the trouble I had was most days I don't get back from work until 2-3pm, I would then have "lunch" which would put dinner back until late. I have now brought forward dinner and don't bother with lunch, if I'm hungry I will have a piece of fruit. This works for me and I don't feel like I'm dieting. Different things work for different people Carol, I think that's what we have to bear in mind. No diet is right or wrong, it's what suits the individual. I have lost a lot of weight and I'm not going back to eating midday. Judy, you are right, restaurants give you far too much. I used to eat off oval "steak plates" but have gone back to smaller plates now. I think as you get older you don't need as much food, your matabalism slows down but we forget to cut the size of our meals. This is a great topic.
6. Carol, you look amazing. I think I expected you to have been really big before you lost your weight but tbh you weren't THAT big but big enough to affect your health and possibly your life expectancy. I can relate to this on a smaller scale. Tbh the word "diet" is like the kiss of death to me but really we eat far more food than is necessary to live. I have also lost a fair bit of weight, in my case by missing out lunch (I wouldn't recommend this for diabetics!) and this has worked for me. I have noticed improvements in my health too. No more indigestion, a knee problem has improved as well as my back problem. If only we all ate ONLY when we are hungry and not simply because a, we're depressed, b, because we're bored by mostly in my case because it's a regular meal time. Well done Carol. Karma to you
7. It's quite sad really isn't it, the owner wasn't actually intentionally cruel to Darious, just ignorant or possibly overwhelmed by these demanding birds. For her to request photos and be visibly upset it is obvious she loved him in her own way but it isn't enough to simply love an animal/bird. From Darious's point of view it couldn't have worked out better.
8. That's very sad Sheila. I agree with both your sentiments, agression is instilled into these kind of dogs from a young age by the owners' desire to look tough or cool. Sending hugs your way...
9. Why thank you Caroline ;-) I changed the battery in mine last week which then made me think about posting on the subject.
10. One with stones on? Not sure what you mean by that. I think with all gas appliances you need to ensure there is good ventilation especially when using for the first time or after a long time. Please read my thread above.
11. Reading the thread below about gas fires led me to remember I meant to post about this last week. We have a carbon monoxide detector in our hallway which is kinda near cupboard that houses the boiler and the switch for the gas central heating. We bought it when we first moved into the house over two years ago and before we had any fids. I think all bird owners should have one, guess who would be the first victim of an even slight gas leak? Remember reading about miners taking canaries down mines in victotian times - canary pegs it and you get the hell out!!! Does anyone else have one?

Post edited by: Joolesgreyuk, at: 2009/09/02 14:26
12. LOL Caroline, and a kilt - somewhat draughty in the trosSOCKS:woohoo: :woohoo:
13. Caroline, I bet the window cleaners liked that. I usually know when mine are coming and draw the curtains but even that makes Beau nervous. Our birds' hearing is amazin'!
14. Judy, I'm thinking Mel Gibson in Scottish landscape LOL
15. Jill, anything would be better atm - bl@@dy hopeless, we seriously need a new manager. The name was Jordan's idea but it does sound kinda "rugged" to me...or is that just my imagination...;-)
16. Aww welcome Jingles. We have another member here with a Jasper(CAG)I would love to see a photo of your red lorikeet - don't leave it too long LOL

20. Sheila, a friend of a client had been looking for a new home for him for a long time but wasn't going to advertise him because she wanted him to go to a home where she knew he'd be spoilt & loved. She also has a grey and couldn't devote the time to him she said he deserved. I told her I wouldn't be able to buy him until after Christmas, possibly April but she didn't want to hang on to him until then knowing he was going, she said she was prepared to wait for the money, as it happened I took the money from another fund because I din't want to owe it. Long story lol.
21. Lol Dan, I'll tell hubby you called him a  just kidding, I know you mean Beau. He adores Steve, 'fraid I'm second best these days. Ah well such is life eh?
22. I hope you can see them here guys because I can still see the originals
