  1. I wondered if those more knowledgeable members could shed some light on this subject, how common are respiritory problems in parrot households and is there more than one condition in humans due to parrot dust or dander? Beau seems to be shedding a huge amount of dander and feathers right now due in part to a heavy molt but also probably because I've been reluctant to spray him due to unseasonably cool weather and with the heating being off. I have found that wiping surfaces down with a damp cloth is better than dusting and I have a hand-held vacuum in my hand almost permanently when I'm home but the place still seems dusty. I do have a reason for asking, I seem to have developed a slight tightening of the chest/wheeze in the last week or two - nothing serious but having not experienced this before it made me wonder if it could be due to the birds. I don't think it is Argyle, he bathes frequently, is small and doesn't seem dusty at all. Can anyone shed any light on this?
  2. Caitlyn please give us an update on Sport and some pics would be nice if possible.
  3. Well that's put the cat amongst the pidgeons LOL!!! Did I mention your name Judy? Did I??? I tell 'e' (that's Janner for you) flippin' yanks - no sense of humour ;-)
  4. Haha Love it Janet! Hey some of my favourite people are yanks (although they don't all like being called it lol) Janner = someone who is from the south-west of England esp Plymouth and other coastal areas.
  5. Amazing pictures, thank you for sharing them with us.
  6. LOL Janet, Caroline!!!!!!!!!!! (fancy you not knowing what a Janner is Janet lol)
  7. Heather, one thing I will say is be very careful. Your Marley is a baby and very cute right now but as they get older they are much more unpredictable and it may be a good idea not to encourage Marley to be that close to your face especially near the eyes, believe me I know as I had a very close call just recently. I managed to blink at the time and it was my eyelid that got nipped - totally out of the blue so please be careful.
  8. Beau is a Janner lol! He really pronounces his r's! His latest "What you do that forrrr" He learned this from the many times I got bitten by Argyle, I used to say that in desperation (good thing I didn't swear eh?) He also says "what a birrrrd!" LOL Ooooh arrrr!
  9. Ana grey is one happy, intelligent grey Janet
  10. Oh what a precious baby you have there!

  13. My pictures also come out like that Caroline lol
  14. He is adorable Caroline. Beau is also looking shabby, it's just that time of year!
  15. Depends on how old your oven is reggieroo, the older self-cleaning ones should be ok so long as it isn't turned up full (or near) the modern ones also have self cleaning panels but they are activated by turning the heat up full or near full, the extreme temperatures activate the self-cleaning chemicals which are deadly to birds.
  16. Lucky you! I had a new oven just about a year ago and it's a self-cleaning one. My advice would be to get the parrots outside, turn the oven up VERY hot for about an hour and then open the windows for say 10 - 20 mins before bringing the birds back in. I never use the self-cleaning setting with the birds in the house. So far - no problems.
  17. alexlee, It is quite normal for beaks to change colour as your grey gets older, for instance my grey's beak has gone from a nice shiny black colour to a dull grey. Why not post a picture so we can take a look and maybe reasure you?
  18. Hello and welcome to the forum Daniel. Congratulations on your new family member, it sounds like you have rescued Mezmo from a less than perfect environment. No need to give you any advice if you have already owned a grey but we will be here anyway should you need us. We look forward to reading of Mezmo's progress and adventures and perhaps some pictures maybe when you can find the time.
  19. Why am I here? Well in the beginning it was for information, help and advice simple as that. Everything was new with the arrival of Beau and a little scary. After a while it became more to catch up with other members and their flocks, this place became more a meeting place. These days I find myself browsing but don't feel the need to post as much as it often feels like I'm repeating what I've or others have already said sometime before. For me though the overwhelming reason to visit parrot forums other than for advice is to talk with like-minded people, "bird people" who understand how special these birds are and the relationships we have with them. Other people simply do not get it, they visibly glaze over when you go into your birdy chat. It's nice not to be considered "whacky", well not all the time anyway lol.
  20. Doing acrobats lol ...and being mr inquizative
