  1. Sorry Carol, what a bummer that is. It sounds liked you did the right thing to trust your gut. Some say it's God's way of telling you something isn't right. The right Grey will come around at the right time.
  2. Thanks everyone. All of your kind words and warm thoughts are much appreciated. She is such a monkey. Even this morning she was hanging upside down and swinging back and forth, back and forth and she fell. This grey girly is going to give me grey hairs before I am 30:S. I don't think there is anything I can do about her monekeying about so I decided to check her nails and gave them a file. They did not seem long but perhaps the shorter nails will give her a better grip. Post edited by: lovethatgrey, at: 2009/03/24 14:35<br><br>Post edited by: lovethatgrey, at: 2009/03/24 14:35
  3. I know that some parrot owners purchase little night lights for their parrots. I myself don't use a nite light. My parrots are pretty good about bed time, but I do keep to a firm, regular and consistent schedule. A tired bird is usually a crabby bird who will bite the next day. I cover them partially just for privacy and both of their cages are against a wall.
  4. Glad to hear all is better and on the mend.
  5. I'm just venting right now because I'm really upset . I just came home tonight and when I went to take Emma I saw that she had hurt herself somehow in her cage today. I really don't know how. I think she must have either lost her balance and fallen or something must have spooked her and caused her to thrash. Anyway... she scraped the skin off of herself in two distinct areas above her nares. They look really red but not deep.. thank goodness. I've decided that it wasn't serious enough to warrant a vet visit and she seemed to be in her usual high spirited mood, but when I first saw the wounds I felt a sense of panic. I'll just have to keep an eye on it in the the next while. This may sound a bit weird but only tonight I realized how very odd but truly special it is to have a pet who speaks your own language. I suppose this is because tonight was our first serious moment together. As I tried to examine her face tonight while controlling how upset I was... Emma kept saying I love you. Are you ok?..You're ok. It's ok. I really just felt like crying because I was stressed and because of her timing and choice of words. Anyway... I guess what I've learned is that there is only so much I can do to protect my parrots. Accidents can happen even when you think they're safe. Thanks for reading. Post edited by: lovethatgrey, at: 2009/03/24 04:25 Post edited by: lovethatgrey, at: 2009/03/24 04:36<br><br>Post edited by: lovethatgrey, at: 2009/03/24 04:43
  6. What a cutie. That is quite normal in the beginning for Shadey is trying to balance himself in the most comfortable position so he can see as much as possible.
  7. Nychsa wrote: Emma turned a year old on March 7th 2009. It's rope from one of her older toys that I hang at the top of her BOING. She had shredded the whole toy and all that was left was the rope with it's link. I always check out old toys that she has used up to see if I can create a new toy out of it or add it to an existing one. The boing itself is hanging from a ceiling protector. She is quite the climber... so I do not wish for her to be playing with my ceiling. I've discovered that it's not necessarily the most expensive or fancy toys that give them the most pleasure.<br><br>Post edited by: lovethatgrey, at: 2009/03/23 14:52
  8. Emma spends alot of her time upside down. I do wonder sometimes if dizziness happens, but no matter she is enjoying herself. B) edited by: lovethatgrey, at: 2009/03/23 02:47
  9. Welcome aboard. Congrats on Rita.. sounds like you've done a wonderful thing! She is sure to enrich your life. Can't wait to see any pictures if possible.
  10. I would really really limit anything with refined sugars, glucose fructose, syrups of all kinds to only once in a blue moon special occasions or AVOID it all together. Don't forget that what you may think is a very small piece for your parrot... is in fact a very big piece and that's alot of sugar and additives for your parrot to ingest in its small little body. Think of how much you weigh... then think about how much the average african parrot weighs which is between 400 to 600 grams. Quite a HUGE difference.<br><br>Post edited by: lovethatgrey, at: 2009/03/23 02:02
  11. Here are a few to view on on the link before. http://burgebirdservices.homestead.com/beaks.html
  12. I definitely wouldn't recommend any forced plucking. That is very painful for your parrot.
  13. That is so wonderful to hear. I really enjoy knowing that good and responsible breeders exist. Kudos to the breeder who gave you your Chimay!
  14. I came across this when browsing on the internet. It is a very useful link for all parrot owners. http://www.featherforum.com/article/taming<br><br>Post edited by: lovethatgrey, at: 2009/03/22 20:05
  15. Today it was oatmeal with chopped steamed brocoli! She LOVED it and finished the whole tablespoon full!

  19. Well I have never come across this site before and not sure that I'd ever purchase a stroller for my parrot but they do have some very neat toys. Thought I'd share with you all. http://www.royalparrot.com/ParrotProductsAdventures.html
  20. She does sound like she is on the light side. My grey is supposedly on the light side too. She weighs 405grams at a year old. When she was around 15 months old she weighed at least 385- 390grams. Was the person who clipped her wings an avian vet? If not I would take her to one to confirm.
  21. It goes without saying that I already always check the doors and windows. In fact it is a very automatic behaviour that I have.. I also do not take my parrots out unless in their Adventure pack. My parrots are really a very important part of my life. I feel that I must try everything in my power to assist my chances should I ever lose my parrot. Hope for the best and prepare for the worst therefore it could only be an added value for my Emma to know my phone number and my email address. It could come in handy but thanks for the feedback. 22. Now that I know that Emma is capable and willing to speak english, I have decided to start teaching her how to say my phone number starting tomorrow. I've heard of and read too many tragic stories of parrots being lost... I can't imagine what I would do if I ever lost my Emma. For sure there would be a huge void inside of me even though I have only known her since May 2008. All I have to figure out now is how to ... interest her in wanting to repeat my phone #.  Any ideas?
  23. Yes it is fine. I give it to my parrots occasionally. Crisp, crunchy and raw!
