I like those a lot, remember you could also do your own if you are a bit handy with tools. I enjoy making Kookies stands myself and changing them every once in a while to add something more interesting. Its so funny how Kookie watches me and is so curious when he sees me working on his stand and he cant wait to get his beak and talons on the new addition... lol One thing though, I would watch out where to hang the stand as the area bellow would be officially the poop corner... Good luck

Hi AGPT, As luvparrots & judygram said there is no known difference in talking abilities for Tags or Cags, males or females. As for their being smart, I guess they all are smart but this varies form one to another as the human intelligence also varies form a person to another. Talking abilities do not depend only on how smart they are. It depends to a great deal on the interaction they have with humans. The more you talk to your grey, play with her/him, spend time together, the more developed are the talking abilities. I wanted to mention one thing though. Its not the talking that makes us so hooked to our feathered friends. I do agree with you, and could say that initially, it was the thing that made a parrot interesting to me. It is their ability to vocalize human words that amazes us, but once I had Kookie and with time, the bond that develops goes way beyond language. You get attached to your parrot as you do to a baby. They become such an important part of your life that you cant live without... thats how I feel and thats how most of us in the forum feel as well. Everyday is fun, a new experience, a new episode, and many times a new word.... Im not saying its only pleasure and honeymoon all the time either... it is a huge commitment that you have to consider seriously. You have to change your lifestyle a bit, make sure you give enough time and attention and care for your grey. Make sure you are at home long enough and that you have a place to keep your parrot in case you have to be away from home. Somethings around home have to change too to make your home parrot safe. I say that all the above are what make our grey friends such a darlings and such a priceless addition to our lives. Consider this and take the time before you decide and best of luck. Nice to have you on the forum ... and welcome to our grey family

Thats so funny... its amazing how they always pick up the words you never want them to learn...

Hi dm, I do understand why your grey is upset or even shocked, but dont worry, her wings and her positive attitude will grow back. Personally I believe birds are meant to fly and I would not clip Kookie's wings. For a bird, this builds confidence as well as personality. Also the exercise is really healthy for them as much as it is for us. I do understand the pooping everywhere problem, but you could perhaps consider potty training. I have done so with Kookie and it works around 95% of the time. He knows that his play tree is the pooping place and he doesnt poop elsewhere. If your grey bumped into the wall, its because she hasnt mastered flying yet. It will take her a while to know where to stop and how to turn around and how to land properly. A few bumps are normal until she masters flying, but just watch out for open windows mainly. Since your grey is still a baby, have you considered harness training. It can be a wonderful thing to have her harnessed and flying outdoors.

Its only been 4 days and thats too early to judge. Probable your husband aroused his interest. Just be patient and keep talking to him and give him treats. It will take time for greys to bond but sometimes, its love at first sight... you never know. With time, he will get used to you and build some trust hopefully. Try to make yourself interesting for him, singing, smiling, be a little noisy but dont scare him... if he is amused he will get closer to you... and food... use his favorite stuff to make him come to you... I used seeds, almonds and peanuts... G :) D Luck

Oh I love this post... lol * Chewed my laptop charger wire (thank God it was not connected to electricity or else Kookie would've been roasted) * Chewed through my Camera Bag * Chewed completely through the wire connecting my DVD player to the TV * Removed half the keys of a new mobile * Still working on my TV cabinet every once in a while * Plucked some of my Laptop keys, but I was able to re-fix them * Dug a hole in the back side of my car's leather seat * A small hole on my red running shoes and of course my hands were not spared as well.... but seriously I learned to be more careful with the wiring in general cos it is the most dangerous...

No its not really common. Ive had Kookie since almost 4 years now and I only saw a minor bleeding when the vet pricked his talon for for a blood drop to do blood anaylsis. That was the time I saw the vet use the sealant... but you never know, hopefully we will never see our grey bleeding...
-
Hi Noman and welcome to our grey family
-
I have seen the vet apply some sort of a liquid using a small brush to my greys wound. It was some sort of a sealant liquid that seals the wound. I wonder where we could get this from, as it sealed the wound and the bleeding stopped immediately.

This is so cute.... believe me the thing I miss the most when I go abroad is Kookie's chattering.... I have his voice recorded on my mobile so that I can listen to him when Im away.... my friends think Im crazy.... but nothing makes me smile like his whistling and chit chatter....
-
so you are totally enslaved by your fids.... how cute..... You are definitely blessed....
-
I would say be a bit patient, order one, see how its delivered and check out the quality. If you are satified, then you can order the other two... Have fun...

How sweet, I enjoyed reading this... but wandered how noisy does it get in this Fid family home... I have one grey family member & it really gets loud and messy sometimes...lol Enjoy your sweet family...
-
Sometimes I notice this behavior with Kookie if he has just woke up, as if he is still in his dream world and hasn't fully regained his reality... LOL A couple of minutes later, he gets back to be his joyous self...

Looks good to me. Cage size is OK, Bars are OK, just make sure the paint quality is fine, that its not the quality that peels. A friend of mine has a cage just like this one for her grey & it seems very practical.

welcome into our grey family, with time u get to really feel the meaning of a fid...lol A fid is also a kid who never grows... For years and years he stays as akid... LoL Each grey has his own personality, there is never a fixed rule. My grey Kookie just loves attention and would like anyone who gives it to him, or gives him an almond... He sometimes walks to my guests and stays on the floor near there feet checking them out, if he likes the person he starts nibelling at his or her shoes trying to get them to pick him up. He says Kookie come here Kookie come here meaning he wants to be lifted up by them. If he doesnt like the person he will say see you bye bye and goes back to his playtree. Some greys like different people but pick a favourite and some dont. You will have to be patient and develop trust. In time you get to understand his personality. Believe me you will even get to understand him by the look in his eyes...

Any news on Mino?

Welcome to our grey family, its a greyt place and you will learn and share a lot
-
How cute....he is discovering your hands I guess...funny

Greys like drama, so whenever u voice things with excitement or anger, using loud voice and pitch, they are more prone to be excited...so why dont you give it a try...sound surprised & excited, dont insist on one word, keep using many, talk to him as if he is human, he will get the hang of it... Also I know for sure that greys learn faster form other greys than from humans, so if it is possible let your grey spend sometime with a talking grey, or show him videos of other greys talking, he will figure out...just be patient and love him no matter what Believe me once he starts talking, you wouldnt know how to shut him up...
