  1. I do not feed my greys a lot of fruit except, apples and bananas. I do give them lots of vegetables. I chop the veggies up in my handy mini-food processor and mix it in with eggs or other foods I prep for the gang.
  2. I do not clip, snip or bob my greys. I love to watch them fly and hear the sound of wings as they go from room to room, place to place. Priceless. They have cement perches (kept at the highest perching point of their cages) so they can sleep or manicure their claws and beaks as they wish. Personal choices about clipping, I choose not to clip.
  3. Trust will come. Just tell him what you are doing and talk to him nicely. It is a lovely grey. Enjoy!
  4. I am debating whether to crochet my great grandson (due in May) a baby blanket or just buy one.
  5. .................................Amen..............................
  6. EZFrag, hopefully Dave007 will be along soon. He is the one to ask about baby greys as most of us got our greys when they were weaned and appropriately 4 months old. Fully eating on their own and physically capable of getting around their cages on their own. Good luck.
  7. To get E. coli some one or some animal would have to touch it. So who touches the waste or lets their pets do so.
  8. Not really, I purchased some of those plastic sled disc kids use for snow sliding few years ago. I put them under the perching spots in my living room, bird room, etc. I take them out in the evening and spray them off and sit them against the sliding to dry. I just replace with a clean dry one and go to sleep ready for a new day.
  9. When I first got each grey they had a "wellness" check and I had the avian vet get feathers under the wing. I was just the good "guy" who saved them from the evil Dr. and took them home to safety.
  10. Paper towels and vinegar water. Off the roll, a sprites of vinegar water, dab, dab in the trash. A second round to make sure all is clean and job is done. Cheap, sanitary and easy. Everyone is happy in the kingdom.
  11. Tyrion is a very nice looking guy. Thanks for sharing him with us.
  12. The flight feathers will return when the old clipped ones molt out. It took about a year from the time I acquired my greys until their flight feathers were properly replaced. I am delighted you have decided to let Annie fly. As to the way your grey treats each member of your family is personal to the grey. Greys are very intuitive and are prey animals so very cautious normally. If your grey senses that a person is fearful, leery or unfriendly, he protects himself by biting or flying away. They also bite just to be left alone. Let your grey pick and choose when to come and when to leave. Treats are also a way to get a grey to be more cooperative, if he so wishes. When my greys are out, I call them to me and if they come, I ask if they want a tickle. If they do, the bird drop his head and gentle head scratches commence.
  13. Mylo seems to be settling in nicely. Looking forward to watching you both grow together.
  14. Anyone can help these "unloved" "abandoned" parrots/animals: You remember my Sully, an older male Eclectus I found in a small pet shop. Sully had been found in a carwash and the owner called the local pet shop. Sully stayed with this pet shop on and off for 10 years. He was always returned for biting. I purchased Sully, got him a big cage and he fell in love with me. Ana Grey, my tag, who was my first parrot, hated and would dive bomb poor Sully and Sully would hide under my bed. I found Sully a wonderful home next door to me with a mother who had two teenage children. I gave Sully and his cage and toys to this family. Sully was very happy and showed his gratitude to me by when he was at my home (Ana Grey in her cage) during an evening card playing time, walked from his new companion's shoulder to mine and gave me a kiss on the cheek then walked back to his new companion's shoulder and cuddled up. It still brings tears to my eyes when I think of how happy this guy was and how loved he was. He had a leather harness so he could go to fairs and on day trips with this new family. He was very loved. Louie, male Blue Front Amazon. Louie I got from a woman and her daughter in a parking lot. I purchased him and bought him home. The man of the family had been Louie's companion and they had a great bond if I am to believe what the wife said. When the man could no longer care for Louie, Louie was put outside. I purchased him in September before it got too cold in Washington State. Louie is a great guy, he did everything I asked of him, as long as I did not try to touch him. It was very obvious that he was a man's bird. I had Louie with me for about 4 years and also purchased an older "unwanted" BF amazon from a couple who were moving to a senior citizens dwelling, Toby would not fit in to their new life style. He whispered instead of talking out loud because apparently the wife did not like his noise. I am happy to announce that Louie and Toby now have a great new forever home with.... wait for it.... a male owner. This man had always wanted a parrot but because he is disabled and on disability could not afford the cost of purchasing a parrot. We all know they are not cheap!!!! Louie and Toby now have a wonderful forever home. It took me a while to find the right home for Louie, one in which he could be happy. Toby is also happy because Toby gets along with the wife who, of course, cannot touch Louie. Would I take in another needy parrot????? Absolutely, my daughters are not happy with this attitude of mine and my son, who is a chef says he would cook them if they come to live with him. But needy parrots/birds need homes and I believe it is my destiny. It is hard to not keep them all, but I am older and I know all my birds will need proper new homes one day......
  15. How to we get a copy of the calendar?????? Can't wait to see a picture.. (hint, hint)
  16. Hello Abz. What is your Tag's name? Looking forward to some pictures, Welcome to the Grey Family!
  17. My greys were clipped when I got them from their breeder(s) but have not been clipped since nor ever will be. As with any "child" you teach them what is right and what is wrong. My greys do not destroy my home or things. We have learned to live together peacefully. Personal choices. Everyone should do with is right for their situation. To me a bird is meant to fly as humans are meant to walk. Even the canary flies around my home.
  18. I have a cag and tag and they get along fine. They do not live together although they do go into each other's cages to steal food. When one does that, the other just sits on the top of his/her cage and waits for the other to retreat. My tag(6) is female and my cag(4) a male. They never go into a cage together. They are both flighted so do not threaten each other because they can each escape if they wish. I would never remove one cage unless they on their own chose to share a cage for at least a year all on their own. I doubt that will ever happen. Everyone deserve alone time, even people.
  19. My CAG. Sterling Gris, is light in color. Hence the name, Sterling Gris (Gray).
  20. If I understand you, you are going to move your grey outside to live because Ruby is noisy. If you do not want her around and want to move her outside, I believe it is best to re-home with someone who cares. These are social pets and deserve to be treated with respect. If your grey is noisy, there is a reason for that. I have two greys and live in a small house. My greys talk but they do not screech or scream unless something is wrong. If I am wrong, then I apologize. But please figure out why your grey is so noisy and not just ways to isolate her. With respect Janet
  21. Welcome RachelR. I am always looking for a good book about parrots. I have looked up your book and will be giving it a read. Welcome to the Grey family.
  22. How much outside time does your grey get? I'm talking about sunlight time. Not getting enough Vitamin D might be a factor. Misting with Aloe Vera juice is also a good thing to do, my greys love a good misting in the morning so that that they can preen and dry out during the day.
  23. Hi BlackOpal. The picture of your prospective grey looks gorgeous. Looking forward to learning more about your new grey and following your new adventure as a grey owner. Welcome to the Grey family.
  24. "The Grey (named "Mithu" translated as "sweet") is 8 years old and fully tamed and talking as well. However I find the grey to be very sensitive to weather changes etc. Recently it has developed a behavior of breathing very heavy at night - during the day it is fine , playful and has its food as usual." Perhaps he is not comfortable at night for whatever reason. Do you cover his cage? Perhaps you moved him into "sleeping cage" and he does not like it? Are there lights/sounds/shadows around at night that might confuse him.? Give his situation a look-see around and see if there is anything that confuses or frightens him. If you could speak to his prior owner and see if something is different or he/she can tell you of an incident that might cause this discomfort. That might help.
  25. Hi Joe and Rudy. Great picture of Rudy and the Little sweethearts. My Ana Grey is a TAG who is 6 years old. TAGs are wonderful companion fids. Looking forward to hearing more about your aviary as I have one my son built for me and cannot wait for the weather to warm up so my fids can resume their outings. I had it built outside the birdroom window and my flighted friends can come and go as they please when the weather is right.
