  1. This is Mylo, he hatched October 3, 2014. Today was his first day home from the breeder. He had a hour and a half drive home he made without too much of a fuss. He's still a little bit nervous, but he was eating and drink and exploring his new environment, which made me a little bit less concerned parrent. So far so good. Mylo & Dave
  2. hopefully these help you as well: http://theworldofafricangreys.weebly.com/safe-for-african-grey-parrots.html http://www.mdvaden.com/bird_page.shtml
  3. Muse said what I was going to say, but I will add that if you weren't already aware, you want to be buying organic fruits and veggies to make sure there aren't any pesticides on them. Especially on strawberries. I'm patiently waiting for my new flock member as well! Good luck on our new adventures (: Dave
  4. After reading through almost all of the posts from other user's threads, I most look forward to making toys that I know my bird will enjoy. I also like that a lot of users mentioned that their fids would watch or help with the toys being made. I'm trying to be as patient as possible..........not too successfully.
  5. I decided I would start making toys for my soon to be new addition to my family. I had bought a ladder that I was unhappy with, so I borrowed some of the shreddable parts from that, and the rest I just used a basic macrame knot I learned when I was younger. Still needs a hanger but wanted to add something to this forum, as I have already learned so much from you guys. Thank you so much for that and being such a supportive, knowledgable community.
  6. I was taking a look at your "green powder" recipe. I understand the eggshell powder for calcium, but I was curious if anyone has considered using spirulina powder instead of having to make that mix. Spirulina is a blue-green sea algae that is harvested in west/central africa. It is also packed with protein and the associated amino acids. It also is rich in calcium. Just looking at other options for those who may not want to purchase and make their own mix. I do like your sprout mix and will be using it as soon as my baby comes to his/her new home with me! Dave
  7. Thank you all for your kind words and welcomes. Robopetz, I was in Kailua visiting a friend of mine in February of '13. Most beautiful place with the nicest people I have ever met. Once I finish my degree here on the mainland, I plan to end up there eventually. within the next 5 years. The first thing I did was check the restricted species list for HI and fortunately our Greys are not on that list. I understand the move will probably be the the most stressful thing the bird will ever have to go through, but I look forward to building an outdoor aviary for him/her to enjoy during the day. It's just not feasible here with our terrible Michigan weather. I even found a breeder on Oahu. I'm glad to be here and will update as often as I can.
  8. Hello Everyone, My name is Dave. I am a soon to be "Parrent" to a CAG. I visited my new companion yesterday and couldn't be more excited. I'm currently going to school to finish up my Bachelor's Degree in Dietetics, so nutrition is going to be one of my biggest reasons for being here. I also have an Associate's Degree in Culinary Arts, as well as a 1-year baking and pastry certificate. I'm a vegetarian, I love to cook, and I visit my local health food store 4 times a week to buy fresh, organic produce. I have eliminated all synthetic ingredients from my personal hygiene products and intend to raise my CAG with the same style of diet/lifestyle. I am currently in the process of setting up myself and my home to be parrot friendly. I have ~10 weeks of hand feeding left before my baby comes to his/her new home. I just wanted to say hello and provide my personal background. Dave
