I have the following: 1- timneh african grey 1- congo african grey 1- red factor canary I have re-homed three parrots that I have found it necessary to care for over the last few years. A job I found very rewarding. All parrots deserve to be loved.

Congrats on your new grey. He is gorgeous. Remember, greys/parrots can sense our "vibes". Relax and talk to your grey, tell him what you are doing and no quick grabbing of him. He is scared and does not know that is happening all of a sudden. New surrounds and a new person/creature close to him. It is up to you to make him feel comfortable. So relax and talk. Greys so want to belong but on their terms not yours.

My greys each have their own "you can put me back in my cage, but first........." I have both my greys step up. They were taught this by their breeders, thank the Lord. But they are willful and unafraid of me, I never punish my greys, they are just big kids. Frankly they remind me of the comics the Rascals. Surely some of you remember this old, old gang of city street kids????? Our Gang, Muggsy and Alfalfa. Anyhow, Ana Grey, TAG, flies to the top of the kitchen cabinet then she will fly to the top of her cage and allow me to step her up for return to her cage. Sterling Gris, CAG, flies to the top of the refrigerator from wherever he is and then I can step him up for return. This is their ritual and because they are flighted, I have no control. And I do not mind because it reminds me how unafraid and part of the family they feel and are. I have their aviary built outside and attached to the house so if there is a fire (I live alone) I can direct them to the birdroom and out the window into safety until I can get outside and retrieve them unharmed.

Hi Trevor, research is a wonderful thing. Try to find out what your grey's present schedule is now. Greys do love their routine. There is oodles of information here, the Health Room is a must and all the threads in all the Rooms hold stores of things our greys have gone through. Welcome to the Grey Family! Can't wait for more information about your grey, Details please!!!!

Finally, Sunny, and Warm in Washington State
Luvparrots replied to Luvparrots's topic in The GREY Lounge
Will do, once the rain stops again!!!!!!! Remember the nickname of my State (Washington) "The webfoot state". This is no joke, but it is green and lush here!!!!!! But very wet!!!! -
Today it finally warm enough to clean out my greys' aviary and set up the perches and boings so I can put them out in the sun for a little Vitamin D. I am very excited. unfortunately, my greys think I am exposing them to vicious unknowns and are a little, okay, very leery of the outside. I will try to get some pictures once they stop looking like they are being punished.

I owned a male Eclectus for a couple of years. I got him from a local small pet store. He was found in a carwash and every time he was purchased, he always as returned. I purchased him, Sully, because he always would interact with me when I went to the shop and I felt sorry for him. I only had Ana Grey, my TAG, then and I don't know why but she hated him. And I mean hated him. She would attack him when he was out of his cage, perhaps because he truly loved me. He would lick my arm with his tongue. It would have been sexy if he had been a human. He was a jewel. The attacks were vicious and Sully would hid under my bed. I give him away to the next door young man. Sully was very loved there and went on day trips with the young man and his mom all the time. One time when Sully was over with his owners (Ana Grey was in her cage in another room) and we were all playing cards, Sully walked from his owner's shoulder up my arm to my shoulder and give me a kiss on the cheek and then walked back to his owner. It was his thank you and I will never forget such a touching scene. We tried to figure out how old Sully was and figured out he was probably in his 20 years at least. He died last year. He was a wonderful companion for my friends. There is a thread or two about Sully here at the forum. And a few pictures if I remember right.

My greys were lightly trimmed by their breeders when I got them. I believe breeders think that new owners are not as careful as they should be when they first get a grey/parrrot. They are probably right. Anyway, I have never clipped my greys since I got them and never plan to. They do not stay where I put them but I have boings and wooden perches around my home that they enjoy flying to. If I don't want a parrot in a certain room, I close the door, problem solved.

Perhaps he wants a drink. So turn on the water and get him wet. He will soon leave the sink alone, or get a bath when he does sit in/on it. Win win for you I believe.
-
Sounds like he does not want to come out of his cage. So open the door and let him be. My CAG, Sterling Gris does not like to go back into his cage in the evening so he does nip at me to no avail. We have a talk and I always win. I never force my greys out of their cages. I do make them go back in when I choose. My CAG and I have a ritual. He flies to the top of the boing in the kitchen, then the top of the kitchen cabinet and then to the top of the refrigerator. Then Sterling Gris will let me step him up and go to his cage. He does this every time and I let him if I want he back in his cage like a gentleman.

Big smiles for you!!!!

Great pictures of Echo. She looks so much like my Ana Grey, those could be picture of her! Although I do not let my pets share bowls.
-
Welcome to you mongerman. What is your grey's name? He is quite a handsome fellow.
-
Are you the one who had him step up and put in the carry for transport to the vet while you were gone. He probably related the step up with a possible trip to the vet again so is scolding you not to "do it again".

My CAG, Sterling Gris, use to fall in the night when he was younger, he has not done it for a while. He is also much more sure of himself and not such a fraidy cat now that he is older. -
It's the spendy cooked unsalted in-shell pistachios that are a bummer. Very costly but much loved.
-
Great video Dave. But, you forgot to name them all!!!!!!!!! (smile)
-
I have plants all over my home. Happens when your the farmer's daughter. My parrots know better than to touch them. Except the Aloe Plants, I have had to close them up in my office if I want any.
-
I do not give my greys raw peanuts, however, I do purchase roasted in-the-shell peanuts for humans and give them to my greys.
