  1. Hi Matt, I have two greys, a TAG and a CAG. My Tag, Ana Grey, is 6 and very mellow. She loves everyone and is not a fraidy cat. She would be a great trucker's companion. Now my Cag, Sterling Gris is 3, he is afraid of every new person and everything. He puffs up real big to scare off the "the bad" humans. My youngest daughter and I are the only ones he trusts. Both birds I have had since they were weaned by their breeders. Both were raised by me under equal circumstances. I guess what I am saying is that it all depends on the personality of the grey you choose. Ana Grey's breeder made sure that she knew about nail clipping, bath time, and time with the human parront from the time she was weaned until adopted by me. This person was a great grey breeder. Sterling Gris' breeder was not so concerned. Sterling Gris, however, is a great talker and learns very quickly. He would be a great companion as he loves to sing and talk but shrieks like a banshee if frightened. I believe with proper research and taking a young grey on trips with you from the beginning would be very enjoyable. Both of my greys are fully flighted and microchipped and registered with Homeagain just in case they should go on an adventure without me. Good luck.
  2. Very cute Dave007. Perfect of the 4 The Birds Room.
  3. Welcome to the GreyForum. There is oodles of information in these threads so read and ask all the questions you want. We do love our greys.!
  4. Would love to hear more details about Trigger and you. We love to learn about other's greys. Welcome to the Grey family!
  5. I cannot wait until it gets warm here in the "webfoot" State of Washington. My son and his wife built my aviary and my oldest daughter and her son painted it for me with color coordinated to my house. My greys got use to it in the late summer so we will see how it goes when the weather warms up. I am very grateful that I had it built off of the birdroom as the greys can come in and out as they wish.
  6. I have lived with a Tag for 7 years and a Cag for about 5. I have also had an eclectus, which my Tag hated and would attack when the eclectus was out of his cage. I rehomed the eclectus. I have also adopted two amazons which I have also rehomed now. I do have the tendency to adopt parrots that need a home but I do find them homes whiych they love. I guess it is my mission. My greys do not interact with each other or with any other parrots I have had in my home. They are individuals and I have had them both since they were weaned. They do not talk to each other or care about each other. Get another bird for yourself from my experience they will not care one way or the other. Mine, frankly, prefer to be alone.
  7. Love the video. You are extremely fortunate that Jabber loves the water as many greys do not. My greys also enjoy a good bath and open their wings and feathers for a thorough soaking down to the skin. Great video! Welcome to the Grey family!
  8. None of my children like my parrots. They however do not harass my fids. If the parrots are out when the family is over, the parrots sit on their window perches or me and just keep an eye on the hostile humans. My CAG, will squeal like a high pitched banshee if anyone other than me comes into their birdroom. My kids ignore my feathered family. I call it respect between the species and everyone knows their boundaries. Because I am an older person, I have found others to adopt my birds if need be. My solution for you is to just keep your "unliked person" away from your parrot and ask that person to think positive if he/she wishes to remain unscarred. Our parrots do sense hostility.
  9. Hi KevinD. Would love to see some pictures of Sukei. Welcome home to the Grey Family!
  10. I know your son will be a great parront. Looking forward to updates as they come available. Pictures of Oli when it is appropriate, please!!!!
  11. Very cute and a great solution for the problem. All dressed up and dinner as well. Oh yeah!
  12. Hello to Charlie and his Mom! Welcome to the Grey family. Charlie is quite handsome and can't wait to hear more about how the introduction is going! Thank you Charlie's Mom for re-homing Charlie!!!!
  13. Very happy for your son and his new companion! Will be looking forward to a thread or two about this new forever home.
  14. Sorry Aerial but have to say, "Marco, way to go!!!! That is funny.
  15. My greys love pistachios. I do not give them treats for tricks, I just ask. My TAG loves to shake hand to foot and comes when I call her, if she wants to come that is. My CAG easily comes for food with just a call and loves to sing when I sing. I believe that they do these things because they just like to interact with me.
  16. Are you still spraying your parrot with parasites spray. It may be that it is irritating your bird's skin so he is trying to get rid of it. If you do not have any aloe vera spray, please just spray your parrot with water to get the parasite spray off of him. The water hopefully cleanse his skin. Also stop the supplements. A good diet should be enough.
  17. In my experience, young people believe "they know the best way to do everything". For the safety of Sophie, I would move her cage to your bedroom and because she is an out of the cage girl, leave her cage open and lock the bedroom door until you get home from work. That way, the kids and have the rest of the house to let their dogs destroy whatever they want. Of course, the other alternative is to make the guys kennel their dogs until you get home. Of course young people are not always good about quickly closing an outside door, so in your place I would keep Sophie in the bedroom until you are home.
  18. Would love to see a picture of Corky. Happy Hatchday!!!!!
  19. Please tell us more about your grey. Is it a Timneh or a Congo. Details please?? And welcome to the Grey family!
  20. Happy Hatchday Dorian!!!!! I know you will be spoiled beyond the horizon!!!!
  21. I use scented trash bags and regular ones. My parrots do not go in my garbage so I do not have a problem. I always close my garbage container anyway. My parrots stay high and never go on my tables or counters. Perhaps I should just consider myself lucky.
  22. I recently had to let my pug, Fei Lian (tiny lotus blossom aka Lily)go. She was 13 1/2 years old, blind and getting very confused. Her long time vet said it was time. I still get up and start to get her breakfast in the morning. Yes, it is a hard habit to break. I am not sure I can replace her. I don't believe I can find a better companion than my old friend Lily.
  23. I always enjoy your photography. Thank you for sharing your adventures with us.
  24. Wow, I think that's great. Do you make bar soap for bathing?
  25. I am all for exterminating mice and rats. You can always get yourself a cat that has been raised around birds. Or get yourself a kitten and raise your own parrot friendly cat. Good luck.
