Our second Congo African Grey - Cute baby - ( I guess 4 months old)
Luvparrots replied to Burak's topic in The GREY Lounge
Congrats on the new grey. Looking forward to being part of your new adventure. -
Looking good. Can't wait to see the finished product!!!!

I have a re-homed zon who I have had since he was 1 1/2 year old and he is now 6. His former parronts were from India and so he speaks that language. Louie also speaks English. He doesn't get confused and although I don't know what he says, it is interesting to hear his other language.

Please do not let your parrot out of its travel cage while driving. Accidents can easily happen your fault or not and your parrot could easily be hurt or killed or be lost in the outside. The cage should be attached to a seatbelt also just for more safety.

I put the parrots on the boings out the window. They were so shocked they didn't move and Louie, the zon would not go out. The first time a window is open and they did not want to go out. Go figure. They were in disbelief. They all came back in on their own. I will have to get some shade going on out there. I had water out in a water dish but no one tried it. Like i said they were flabbergasted with all the sunlight and air!!!!! Will see how it goes next time. When my California daughter comes up in a week or so, we are going to do the painting.

Go Gracie!

Excellent story and a happy ending!

The biggest mistake new parrot owners make is to play with their new babies/parrots continually and then get bored. The newness is gone and the new owner just stops carrying their parrot around and interacting with it all the time. The parrot is confused "Why the neglect?" What did I do wrong." Parrots get into routines so when the new owner stops carrying the new parrot around or immediately letting it out of its cage, the confused parrot shrieks for attention. Start the routine you intend to maintain. The schedule you intend to continue. Don't confuse your parrot and then not expect a little loud feedback.

It's my Ana Grey that I have trouble finding. She is very quiet and will not answer when I call her. She is my sneaky Pete. Very Houdini out of her cage too. I do not know how she opens the locked food doors they are dead bolts but she does it.

I have four flighted parrots, two greys and two zons. They follow me around my home. They have perches and boings, etc. in each of the rooms they can go into. I just flick them off my shoulder if they fly there and I do not want them there. Because they are flighted they just go to a boing, window perch, etc. Easy, you just have to be consistent and in charge.

From experience Ray, I know that if you "rescue" a parrot from a "not to informative parront", the rescue can ease a lot of pain from losing a beloved pet. Just be on the look out for a "needy" parrot needing a caring owner. They are there Ray, all you have to do is look.

Toby here. I'm new to this household and have been locked up for most of my 33 years in my last home. Was there since 2 years old. My new parront launches me off from the kitchen down the hall to the bird-room at least 4 times when she let's us out for the day. Love it! I am going to surprise Luvparrots one of these days and fly on my own!!! I know she can't wait.

Great pictures. I have four to carry out for sun. A chore. Can't wait for the aviary to be done!!!!!

Have read this and agree. My greys I have had since weaned but my zons and any other parrot I get will be re-homed. I don't go looking but if one shows up, I'm your girl. This article should be reviewed now and then Talon, thanks for the reminder.

The bottom half will be plywood to make sure the large dogs in the neighborhood don't decide that my parrots are "easy" dinner. Can't decide whether to paint the aviary the same color as my house or to leave it natural. Key padlocks will be attached to the outer door.

My aviary is on its way. I am so excited. My son, John and his wife, Aubrey work on it when they are not working or dealing with three young boys so it is taking some time. It is gorgeous and when it is done I will post the final product. It is being built off of the bird-room window. I am so excited!!!

I live alone and am retired. I have 4 parrots, two male BF zons, a male CAG, and a female TAG. They are not friendly with anyone else. I do not try to get them involved with visitors. They follow me around my home when they are out. My son the chef has plans to BBQ my fids when they no longer have a parront. None of my family are fond of birds so when I am no longer here my oldest daughter will be contacting Greyforums to see if anyone needs a new parrot. Sorry!

Don't stress Jeff, relax as Gracie will feel your reaction and any stress. Talk to her and let her know what is going on. If you have to change your schedule be gone a little longer talk to her about it. I am retired but if I leave my home I tell my parrots I will be back and to be good and "don't cause any problem". They understand I believe. I have 4 and some times I leave they out when I go to the store. When I come home the three I have had the longest are sitting at the their window perches waiting for me. Gracie and you have a great relationship and she is use to a certain schedule so if it changes you must let her know so that she understands. Think of Gracie as your "wife" and talk to her to get her okay.

Relax and give it a try. I find that often is the parront whose anxiety comes through and their grey's picking up on the owner's fears and being unsure that cause the problems. Don't assume that things will go wrong. Enjoy and so will your grey.

I put gel window decals on my glass and my flighted parrots never "run" into them. The Dollar Store in my area has gel decals galore. These decals go one and come off without any problems.
