  1. I use sandy perches for my fids, they help trim their nails. You can get them at local pet shops or on line. Our birds use they nails for gripping so they have to be relatively long. Some here have their vets clip their parrots nails. azv you should introduce yourself in the Welcome Room and tell us a little more about you and your new grey.
  2. Great Nilah story. Yuck hate cat boxes never had one in the house always taught my cats to go outdoors while living in the country. When I moved to the city 5 years ago, I gave up cats as I just can't stand a cat box but I don't like squished kitties either. My favorite cat is a Manx.
  3. Neither my greys or zon are house chewers. Ana Grey pretty much ignores toys and Sterling beats them up, he has been watching Louie too long! Louie, the zon, loves chewing toys and knocking the daylight out of them, but he is not a woodwork chewer either. After reading what other say about their fids, I consider myself very lucky though my parrot toy bill is out of the park!
  4. People seem concerned about ceiling fans and windows. There are a couple of things you can easily do to help prevent these accidents. Regular plastic wrap (for sandwiches and other foods) can be purchased sometimes in different colors during the holidays. Just cut some in different shapes and press them to your windows. Or you can use a felt pen and make pictures on the clear kind. As for ceiling fans, just hang some ribbon in strips on the fans so that when they are on the ribbon moves and your birds can see that the fan is in motion. I have always taken my parrots around so that they can see where the windows are and tap on the glass so they know it is solid. Our parrots are very intelligent just show them what they need to be concerned about they catch on very quickly, with a little help.
  5. Hi Katy, nice to meet you and Simon. I also waited until I was retired and my kids were grown before first getting my grey. My fids keep me as busy as my three children did!!!! When you said evergreen trees I assumed you were in Washington State, but alas you are not. I am looking forward to hearing more about Simon and seeing more pictures of him (love the avatar). Welcome to the Grey family!
  6. My dad raised parakeets and I loved to watch them as a kid. A keet was my first bird and they can be taught to come to you and even talk some. I loved my little barking keet until the kids accidentally didn't close the front door quick enough and he went exploring never to return. Keets are so quick in flight!!!
  7. Oh dear, hopefully the tarantula is hiding under your desk or other safe place in your office. A sad reminder that we do have to watch our grey's as they love to explore and reek havoc!!!
  8. Hi Life is Greyt. Congratulations on your new grey. I understand your excitement about waiting for your grey. It seems to take forever!!!!! but the waiting is so worth it! If you have any pictures of your little friend, we would love to see them. We love pictures! Welcome to the Grey family!
  9. None of my children or grandchild like birds. At least not like I do. My oldest daughter has a chill run up her spine every time I talk about adding another parrot, she is the executor of my estate, poor dear. So I don't intend to die as I have no one to take over my birdies! My daughter has said she will be coming here to talk to all of you, so be prepared but not too soon, I hope!!!!! LOL!!!
  10. Congratulations on your baby BOY!!!!
  11. Happy Hatchday to Talon, wow what a mature lady she has grown into being! If you get a chance Penny, I would love to see some new pictures of Talon, really, all three of your feathered-kids. Please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  12. I think that all the proper steps are being done, so if this sweet grey is re-homed by you, that he will be truly yours. Good thoughts coming your way.
  13. Have either you or the lady who now is caring for the grey contacted the local authorities in your country about the correct procedures? That's what I would do if I was in this kind of situation. I hope all works out for you and this sweet grey. Fingers crossed for a quick and happy resolution.
  14. Because I am retired, my parrots are out most of the day. If I leave the home or acquaintances come in that my parrots are not use to seeing, I put the fids into their birdroom or their cages, whichever is appropriate. Otherwise, my birdies are out all the time. They have perches and swings throughout my home and they are all independent and self-assured parrots.
  15. I have given my fids kiwi, not that they like it all that much.
  16. This is wonderful new. Congratulations on your breakthrough with Sam!
  17. Congrats on your new little grey. I love the babies as they are the most malleable and trusting a grey as you will ever find. You young grey has lost its flock and is looking to you for comfort. Now is the time to earn trust and form a lasting bond. The first thing I do when I let Sterling Gris, 7 months old, out in the morning is give him a warm cuddle, lots of verbal loving words with lots of head scratches. Greys love gentle head scratches. Sterling then flies to the back of my desk chair, he has chosen this as "his" place. Or the top of my computer screen another place he has claimed. I have places throughout the house where my parrots can light and see me in whichever room I am in. I find that as long as my fids can see me, they are content. I have hanging toys in these place as well with foraging nooks and crannies for my curious little imps. The only time my fids are in their cages is for sleeping, if I leave the home, or if strangers are around. When Sterling is put in his cage, he gets cuddles and scratches with gentle words so he is happy and ready to chill in his cage. Having lots to do is a key for keeping a grey happy.
  18. What a sweet looking little grey. Have you chosen a name for your little friend yet? I love the little ones as they are so loving and trusting. I look forward to hearing more about your new friend.
  19. I love the story of your little lady Java. She is lucky to have such a loving parront and you are lucky for finding such a spicy imp to make your day.
  20. So glad your little grey is now home. Looking forward to hearing how the vet visit goes.
  21. Well put dejavu22597 as we are all here to share and learn from each other. Looking forward to hearing more about your grey.
  22. Welcome home!!!! Looking forward to an update on Kikki and of course pictures please!!!!!
  23. My fids have a certain place they go in their cage, right under their sleeping perch. How about placing a "potty basket" inside your fid's cage. Then everyone is happy, hopefuly!

    Onions?

I don't give me fids onions. My theory for my fids is "When in doubt, leave it out"!
