  1. Wheww!!! I guess I'm glad no one wanted to bet me!!!! LOL!!!! Can't wait to see the goodies!!! Glad you are home safe, even if you are broke now!!!! LOL!
  2. Welcome to you Dario. Looking forward to hearing more about Tango.
  3. Bianca, the picture of my TAG, Ana Grey, in the avatar was when she was 4-months old. She is now 3 1/2 years. My amazon, Louie, is 4 years old and my CAG, Sterling Gris, is 10 months old. There are many pictures of my little flock throughout the forum. I am not shy about my birdies. Looking forward to hearing more your sweet flock. As for the languages in my country, unfortunately, most languages besides English are taught during high school were it is mandatory to take a language, French or Spanish usually, to get into college. In my opinion, much too late for students to grasp different languages.
  4. Brutus is sure a Christmas loving grey. Very cute!!!!
  5. Hi Bianca. Great introduction and your English is fine. I always admire persons who know more than one language. I love your birdies' playstand. Great picture with the little birdies having fun. Koekie is a fine lookiing TAG, I love those timnehs. Welcome to the Grey family and I look forward to hearing more about your sweet flock!
  6. Oh goody, can't wait to see all the new goods!!!!! Be safe and have fun!!!! On another note: Anyone want to bet if Penny will be coming home with a new bird????? All on her own!!!!! LOL!!!!
  7. Amen to that Penny. I certainly intend to participate in this room as I truly believe it will benefit us all. Regardless if we are owners of our birds first, or if they are re-homed, or rescued.
  8. Would've, could've. Louie is healthy, fully feathered and much loved. This room is for those who believe their bird's stories belong here. If you believe your parrot was a victim and needed rescuing then post in this Room. Louie's owners cared enough about him to re-home him when he no longer fit in their home. Perhaps the husband died, I don't know. He was never abused that I know about. Personal preferences to where you want to post is up to each individual.
  9. The definition of rescue is: http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/rescue When I got my amazon he was first and only owned by a family in Oregon. He was the husband's parrot and when the husband became ill there was no room in the hearts of the wife and children for the amazon. Louie was well fed and beautifully feathered and very healthy. He just was not wanted anymore by the family. I did not rescue Louie, I re-homed him. Is his life better, I believe so because I really love him. definition of rehome: http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=rehome
  10. My parrots all sleep in their cages at night. I want to know exactly where they are if there is an emergency. I have their travel cages and an emergency pack all ready just in case. All will go readily into there cages for me, however there has not been a lot of excitement around so I do not know what they would do in an emergency, only what I would do. I have really thought about this and because I live alone, I would not hesitate to smash their room window to get them out if necessary. Smoke for birdies in a definite killer. Good thread, by the way.
  11. Dee, Gilbert may be able to fly some day. I know the ekkie I re-homed was found outside so he could fly. He was immediately clipped by the pet shop owner and remained clipped for 7 1/2 years until I got him. He was also a plucker. I let the feathers regrow and Sully could take short flights in my home. He is also regrowing feathers so take heart that they can grow back in. Sully plucked for many years in the pet shop and still plucks in his new home if he is stressed. If his young man owner is gone for a few days, as an example. So have hope Gilbert may surprise you. On another note, I too am very thankful that we have Dave007's expertise to help us over our grey humps!
  12. How about a glass aquarium. They make them in all sizes now. That way your sweet cockatiel can see out all around. Just be careful not to place it in the sun or it could be very hot.
  13. I'm retired and so my parrots and I have lots of one on one time. The are out all the time unless I leave the home, or there is someone/stranger or something going on that it is safer for them to be in their cages or in their room. There are times they go into another room to have alone time. My fids are all independent and confident little stinkers. I keep an eye on them all day long.
  14. Ahhhhhh, the reason I don't clip my birdies. They are a true joy to watch in flight! Thanks Dan!!
  15. What a lovely update on Dorian and the last line brought tears to my eyes. Your post gives me heart to know that someday, Louie, the zon, and I will hopefully be able to slowly but surely move forward with love and patience.
  16. I notice that you talk to Nilah a lot and that she understands what you say. So sounds like the night time routine has become a fun time for Nilah at your expensive. I talk to my parrots and let them know if I am P O'd at them when they do something I don't like. They do understand and even cock they little heads while listening away. So, it may sound silly but have you talked to Nilah about what pisses you off and what you want her to do? I have trouble getting Ana Grey to bed and turn off the room light to have her step up and into her cage. But the thing is she does know that she must go in her cage and so she watches Sterling and Louie go into their cages while sitting on the top of her cage. And once I try off the light she steps up without a problem. I do turn the light back on once she is in her cage. I did forget to mention that I always have their night time snacks in the cages before they go to bed. Usually some apple slices, or fresh snap peas, or safflower and cracked corn seeds, something of that sort for them to eat before I turn out the light in their room. Then I come back in and say nite, nite to each of them as they scurry to their night time perches before the room light goes off for the rest of the night. It is a ritual that works for them and me after a few trial and errors along the way.
  17. Please let us know what the avian vet says as I have never had this problem with my greys.
  18. I'm keeping score. One for Penny!!!! Hooray!!! Nilah certainly is a very smart little lady. Think of it this way Penny, she keeps you young and your mind very active with all that scheming, I mean thinking!!!!!
  19. Simple things to give him are plastic colored straws knotted together, empty toilet paper rolls or empty paper boxes. Mine also enjoy plastic practice golf balls, the ones with the holes in them.
  20. djw200, are you familiar with greys and their traits, phobias and idiosyncrasies? They are very smart and some are one person birds. Please do some research before you jump into getting one. There are many different threads in the various rooms here so read, read, read.
  21. Very nice photos of your Ellie!!! Love those TAGs!
  22. Hi Ziggy2011, welcome to the Grey family! Looking forward to hearing about your little grey!
  23. I want to have a talk with Rikki about his actions and what he has done to my Ana Grey!!!!! Remember I said that she was on my shoulder going "uh oh" whiling watching the bowl break in the second video. Well last evening I was watching TV and I hear crashing in the kitchen. I rush in and see Ana Grey leaning over the countertop, head tilted sideways looking down at the many shards of glass bowl on the kitchen floor. I quickly told her if she says "uh oh" she would be one sorry little gir. Then I dutifully cleaned up the broken glass while giving her what for. Thanks Penny.
  24. Ziggy sounds like a happy healthy parrot to me. I have an amazon who has energy like Ziggy. I supply him with lots of wooden and clanging toys and he plays all day long. I also assume that the sugar remark was just an expression as it is true sugar is not a parrot's friend. Ziggy certainly looks like a sweet character in your avatar. Just give him more stimulating things to chew on and play on and with. `
  25. Oh thanks, so love to see the babies!!! Can't wait to see more!
