  1. The "trick" I use for bed time is a little seed. I know that its not the best thing but he looks forward to going in at night so he can have some. I dont let him have alot of food outta cage in the evenings (after he has a big dinner) then about 30 mins before lights out I let him go in and have some seed. I am usually in line of site so he just munches. when lights out come hes nice and full and is usually about ready he will do some circuits while I am covering him but he usually settles in mins. I have a dimmer light where his cage is and I do leave that on the dimmest I can get it and only cover 3 1/2 sides so he does have a place to look out if he hears a noise and so he can see nothings coming to get him.
  2. Hehe I forgot to mention so far ZZero hates it I keep taking him in and hanging more toys but he wont have any part of it. I think mabey he is just a bad mood he loved it before all the vet wrapp. Oh and this is the beginning of the new bird room I am going to borrow alot of ideas Post edited by: cflanny, at: 2009/03/24 05:51<br><br>Post edited by: cflanny, at: 2009/03/24 05:51
  3. Oh poor Emma, I know exactly as you felt when you came home I just had my first serious moment also Hope her bump heals fast and I can wait to hear words like that
  4. So I started working on this last week with my hubby, after ZZeros horrible experience last night and this morning I thought it would be fun to try and finish , so ZZero and I just put it all on and we are proud wanna show off Still needs some more tape and toys and such but here the beginning stages. And heres his new swing:
  5. Hes is doing so well, we laid around today and cuddled, it was a very tramatic experience. he has eaten some and gave me tons of kisses so all is good ) Thanks guys it was nice to have a place with people who understand to vent
  6. Yes Dan exactly it was the same as I tried last night but he just went for it nothing gentle about it lol I about had a heart attack. They did not have to put him under which was great news I was so worried about that . I slept by ZZeros cage last night I was so worried he would get caught on somthing but all went smooth I am just a worry wart. One thing that happened though is my vet forgot he was fully flighted and opened his crate off went ZZero into the window twice so now we came home with a bug bump on his forhead:(
  7. ZZero loves to play with my zippers I try not to let him but somtimes he just too fast. The little clip at the top of the zippers came off and has clamped over the bottom of his beak half in and half out. We have tried everything to get it out and made phone calls all over the city no one can see him tonight. I was panicked but I just got off the phone with my vet who finally called me back and will see him first thing in the morning. he said he has seen this before and that it happens alot with bells and for me not to worry he will be fine till morning. I am scared they are gonna have to put him under to get this off but the Vet said he would do everything in his power to not have to. I was also worried about metal poisening as its right where he grinds his beak but he said that is not a concern either. So I hope the morning and tonight are not too stressful on him. he wants to eat but I took his food away cause he seemed to gag when he got a bite . I am gonna sleep with him tonight I dont want him to get caught on any strings as he has alot of fabric perches. Ok I just had to vent I have been so upset I will update after his appointment in the morning at 7:30 pacific Thank you Cindy
  8. Where do you live gary?? My breeder is in Northern California and she is amazing nothing but great things can be said about her and her babies she has 2 females now I do think she ships baby cost $950 http://www.cedarmountainaviary.com/bird_sale.html If you read about how she raises babys you will be sold ) Good luck sorry you lost Harley (
  9. I am so glad:)) Turn around is Zzerso favorite trick he gets so excited and hops in circles now
  10. ZZero lol I hated the name cause I didnt want him to feel like a zero but my family all loved it so it stayed. The name came from the breeder he was the first born of the 3 so they were 0,1 and 2 by the nails she painted for the vet visits, ZZero had no nails painted so thats what they continued to call him while the others became Bob and Meridith. It just stuck my breeder was soooo surprised when we kept it the same. It matched though my pets are Ozzy, ZZoy and ZZero.
  11. I started this trick with ZZero when he was just 6 months. First I started with "Turn around" this was easy for him and he was so excited and interested in learning more. "Turnaround" I held the treat in my right hand and brought it around to his right side got him to turn backwards then quickly brought it on the left to finish the turn. Quik treat and praise!! "wave" I hold the treat in my left hand now and show it to him try to keep his attention on the treat then come in with your right hand like you want a step up, the first few times I actually let him touch my hand then QUIK treat. slowly start to raise the right hand so the step up would be more dramatic but dont let him actually touch quik treat again. Dont give treats just cause he will be quik to learn he doesnt have to do anything for it. Bridgeing is the most important even if he lifts his foot a 1/4 inch give a treat and praise right that second. Then slowly start to go higher and higher then start to only treat every couple times and gradually give less and less treats. I am no trainer so I hope this helps you just a little bit Good luck and dont give up. training truly does help with bonding a better more confident bird IMO Also best time is when they are hungry, you can hold their attention much longer . Good luck let us know
  12. I made one like it, I used embroidery rings and twisted the rope around. the one thing is once they realize theres some chewable wood under there.... I have made foot toys with the small size rings and wrapped them with sisal and beads these have became ZZeros favorites he can spends hours trying to get the beads off. Great video Emma looks like shes having a blast !<br><br>Post edited by: cflanny, at: 2009/03/10 17:12
  13. ok I have no idea if this is true or not but I heard a rumor that a grey will actually "form a bond" with the grey in the mirror and it could upset your relationship as they have fallen inlove with the other grey Like a mating pair Now I think this is underestimating how smart our babies are but I thought it was worth metioning to see what others say:)<br><br>Post edited by: cflanny, at: 2009/03/02 17:35
  14. Thank you I thought the first one was so angelic I just love it and him
  15. I managed to get these 2, as soon as he sees the camera he comes to get it... And this is his favorite "hang out" place thought it was too cute hes preening himself upside down. This is a main walkway for my house so he hangs there and gets kisses as we walk by
  16. Thank you guys so much. I am still just alittle confused if he plays the get away game do I stay consistent and make him step up (i.e. Chase him) or do I wait for him to calm by turning my back then go back to the step up? I truley do understand what you guys are saying and it makes so much sense somtimes its hard to impliment ( birds are definatly not dogs lol) but I am gonna take more breathers to calm myself, I do find myself getting upset and emotional when these things happen. I will not let him hurt my feelings and I feel much better knowing these are stages and everyone has gone thru them, I will not take it personal Thanks again everyone )
  17. This is what my breeders said I should do with ZZero. I really appreciate this thread and hearing of your experience. I am having a hard time wrapping my head around the clip but I am considering if things get worse. Please see my post in training as I still need help
  18. They will lose thier down feathers regulary ( little white ones) What I am doing with ZZero we are in our forst "large" molt I am no expert but I bath him alot and make sure I am soaking especially the areas with pins to the skin with Aloe Vera juice. He is very itchy now and before bed I even put Aloe Vera gel on the skin around his pins. I dont think the pins hurt as much as they are a annoyance and itch. They seems to molt areas at a time right now we just got done with his head a neck, been working this area for over a month now
  19. We have done the time out in the cage but now I cant catch him he just runs.... only when he knows hes doing somthing I dont want him to do. Its like he knows and says "HAHAHA I control you and can do what I want!" but most of the time step up and cage time are not problems just when I ask him not to do somthing ARRGHHH Thank you for your reply
  20. I should mention ZZero is 9 months old and in FULL molt has been for about a month. Also the last 2 days he does this click with his beak sound like hes breaking somthing I have looked all in his mouth and see nothing abnormal wondering what this is?<br><br>Post edited by: cflanny, at: 2009/02/26 04:50
  21. Hey guys been awhile I have returned to work and my houshold has been crazy busy. Hope everyone is well Let me start by saying ZZero is a angel 95% of the time, we have a great bond and he leads a very happy life. He is very cuddly a majority of his time and has started to purr everytime we are loving. He is usually very sweet with me and he tollerates my husband and son. Heres my problem, ZZero is flighted and has started getting into everything which most of time is ok I have bird proofed and he has SEVERAL places to play and baskets everywhere that are his. There are a few places I do not want him to be and a couple things I do not want him to do. For example he has a play area on my coffee table, its basically became his lol. but he wants to bite the table so I ask nicely for him to stop. This starts a war of sorts he looks right at me and does it again and again and again. he becomes obsessed I have tried distracting him, being very patience and saying no many many many times finally when I go to pick him up and remove him he gets all big and trys to bite. I say No bite and it seems to make things worse he becomes a attack bird and in the last few days has flown at me with ill intentions. This is just one example, it seems if I try to disipline him at all he changes and becomes very mean. The last 2 days when he gets like this I get very overwhelmed at how aggressive he becomes. Then the game starts where he flys away and I cant get him to step up. this is very frustrating What do I do when he flys away if I stay with him he just keeps running or getting more aggressive? How do I ask him not to do somthing??how do I react if he flys at me or bites me.I have read some things like no reaction at all but it seems like I cant just let him get away with these things? I called my breeder for advice she has suggested cutting his wings just this once and have him depend on me more and "nock him down a few notches". This thought process makes sense to me but it just breaks my heart I never wanted to trim his wings, I want him to enjoy the one thing captivity didnt take away, flying was his god given right. I am very confused and need help. Thanks so much for any replys.<br><br>Post edited by: cflanny, at: 2009/02/26 04:05

  23. I love ZZero cause hes perfect !! I love how he has a differnt mood everyday. I love how we interact together we are so bonded and I can do anything and everything to him with little fuss. I just love his kisses and the way he cuddles, I love when he hides in my sweatshirt and just his head sticks out with mine. OH man I could go on and on I just love him!! Things I hate LANDING ON MY HEAD!!! lol had to get that out
  24. Mikaboo rescue is wonderful they have several greys at this time and some would actually be good for beginners. even if you are in southern california they will help make arangments for you to take the classes over the phone. Also my breeder was just wonderful she is in Livermore California, she has 2 greys available and I would highly recomend her!! Babies come very very well socialized, pls go to her website and read her methods. http://www.cedarmountainaviary.com/index.html ZZero came to me perfect we have had 0 problems with anything he loves all food and is completly fearless.
