1. Great shot! I have seen Alex's on occation! Kind of cool. B)
2. My grey doesn't care but some can be teritorial about thier cage. It's thier home! And they don't want you pokeing your finger in there. If Alex doesn't want attention he wont come to me. So I leave him alone. Sometimes he is bluffing. Because as I walk away he will flly to me and land on my shoulder. The goof ball! Also not all bits are bits. Birds use thier beaks like we use our hands. Sometimes what you might think is a bit is just a way of playing or trying to get you to do what they want you to. Our senegal is VERY cage aggresive. He will lung at anyone that gets to close. With the exception of my daughter who is his mom.
3. Winter what is that? My heavy coat for cold weather is a heavy sweater! Though I would be more than willing to live where it snows just to get out of CA. :whistle: :blink:
4. Congrats on your new baby! I have heard that quakers can be a lot of fun! Can't get them here in CA they are banned.
5. That is just to cute! Thanks for sharing! :cheer:
6. Love the photos! He looks like he is really enjoying his new stuff! :woohoo:
7. Thanks! He is one smarty pants! B)
8. Monty looks like a male. And the myth that they bond with the opposite is not true. I know several people on another forum that the bird is the same sex as they are.
9. Yeah that grey didn't look happy to be there. :blink:
10. That is great news Mas! Good for Zahzu! {Characters-00020067}
11. I found a couple. http://www.floridasoar.org/ This one has a whole list of places. http://www.birdadoption.org/groups.htm
12. He is still young give him time. He is still learning. Alex who is now just over a year seems to learn a lot more in a shorter amount of time. Than he did as a baby. I'm still waiting for him to talk. But he does tons of other cool stuff in the mean time. :cheer:
13. Desiree I think that Dan's idea is a great one! There is a rescue place about 45 minutes from me that is always looking for volinteers. I have never been up there but here it is a really neet place to go. They let the general public go in and see the birds for a small fee. I'm sure there has to be a place near you!
14. Congrats! Nothing better than hearing a first word!:cheer:
15. Nope just like not all people dance. Alex does all kinds of other stuff but I've never been able to get him to dance. He always looks at me like I'm nuts. He Loves to sing though. He will sing for long pireods of time several times a day. :woohoo: I love listening to him sing.
16. Desiree though I really can't say anything that will make you feel better right now. I can give you some hope. I know it is frustrating but watch craigslist in your area. Yeah there are scammers out there. But thier are ligit people looking for new homes for thier birds. That is how I got Martini. He is not a grey but a senegal. I got him for $60. His old mom wasn't looking to get any money back on him she just wanted to make sure he went to a good home. Martini hates me but he LOVES my daughter and she is momma. He even calls her that. He is so cute! You can look at this as there is a very special bird out there for you and this was not him. He is out there and waiting for you to find him. {Characters-0002005F}
17. Oh Desiree I'm soooo sorry to hear this! Did you already give this person money? I hope not! Save all the stuff you have gotten. You WILL one day have a wonderful bird to give it all to! Have you tried pet finders?
18. Knight Yes that is exactly what is happening. Birds beaks are always growing so the outer part chips off while the newer part is underneath. This is totally normal and nothing to worry about.
19. A good way to get them to step up to start with is to come in from behind. So that he has to back up onto your hand. Even once they know how doesn't mean that they will want to!
20. I make about 90% of Alex and Martini's toys. I have fun doing it and they enjoy "helping". Though I do buy parts online I also find all kinds of stuff just looking at stores. One of my favirot places here in the USA is the Dollar Store. They are always getting in new stuff and you just never know what you will find. Plus they keep stuff like the willow wreaths (to decorate yourself) and tisue paper in stock. Willow wreaths are just for chewing up, tisue paper is great for shredding! Oh and straws are great! love the straws! I will have to take a picture of the straw toy I make for Alex. Here is a link to a great DIY bird toy site! They have tons of ideas even for making your own atom! http://www.cheepparrottoysntips.com/
21. Desiree do some flight training with your new bird. Though Alex wont always come when I ask, but he does know what I want. I've started working with him and another person so that we can then take him outside (on his harnes) for some outdoors flying. Though I think he is now to old to teach for truly do free flight outside. I would love to be able to take him out for free flight but don't know how to go about it and he maybe to old to teach. One of my fav ytube videos. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=q11SThc5y9g

Post edited by: Suzzique, at: 2008/09/12 16:53
22. Tycos mom not everyone takes thier birds to the vet when a wing is broken. In our case Maggie looked really bad and we didn't think that she would live much longer. Between the ingery and shock we were sure she would pass. We have seen it before in wild birds that we have found. We were not being crule just honestly not expecting her to live. If it had been something more like Brodie then we would have more than likely taken her in. If anything happens to Alex or Martini they will be into the vet asap.
23. PThizzilini I am so sorry to hear of your loss! I have lost birds also. One do to illness and one a very tragic accident. It is deveistating no matter how they pass! Just my experence with Alex. He is a total goof ball and while goofing around upside down has slipped and fallen. Scares me every time I see him fall. Maybe this is what happend and your baby fell just right or maybe even hit something on the way down. I hope you find out what happened!
24. I personally don't like the idea of them. I use the aviator for Alex and carry a few tisues with me for clean up. Not saying that you shouldn't just how I feel about them.
