  1. That is great news! Do we get pictures of him?
  2. What a cutie! {Love-0002011E}
  3. Wow Kitty where in CA are you? I got Alex for $850 from a breeder. Even at my fav bird store they are only about $950 to $1000 tops.
  4. We share whatever we are having for dinner with Alex everyday. Also don't worry about how hot the curry is. Most birds love the hot stuff and can eat it like candy. They don't have the problems with hot spicy stuff that we do.
  5. Zahras the sholder sitting is really a personal choice just like having your bird clipped or flighted. Zahras does this with you not just because you are soft on her but because you are her one. Alex will step up for anyone in the house but only wants to sit on my sholder. You are mom and she will do for you what she wont for others. As long as you have a trusting relationship with her there is no reason that she can't ride on your sholder. That is if it is something you don't mind. I can't imagine not having Alex riding around on mine. As for keeping her busy that is easy. You can work on teaching her tricks. There are some great trick books out there. I have also worked on teaching Alex his colors. He knows red, purple, and yellow so far. Here is the link to the Alex Foundation (not my Alex). Alex was a truely amazing grey and all of our greys have the potential to be just as amazing. http://www.alexfoundation.org/
  6. I'm lazy and put the toys threw the dishwasher. But hot water and vinegar are a good way to go for stuff that you really can't run threw the dishwasher.
  7. We have a senegal and Alex will attively go after him. Even though Martini has his own stand. Alex doesn't have to share his playstand or the stand over his cage. But he will still go after Martini. He gets time out when he does it. But most times he will come out of his cage from time out and go right back to chasing Martini. It's not all the time but enough to be really annoying. Before getting a too do lots of resurch. Yes they can be total goofballs but they are tons of work. They are the number one bird that you will find in rescues.
  8. Nims Lovemygreys is right do lots of resurch on too's. They are the main bird that you will find in rescues. Most will go threw 2 to 4 owners by the time they are 1 year old. It is really sad. They are very needy and very loud. Yes our greys can get loud but they have nothing on a too. I don't want to discurage you on a too. They can be great companions but you need to know what your getting into.
  9. Thanks to some advice from Dave Alex is now back to his working on sounds in his song's. Hello is fairly clear but he only does it as part of his song. We have heard others that sound like he is saying his name. Today it sounded like he was working on I love you. So we will see.
  10. Alex loves his rattle! Look around in other departments for toys. Both birds like straws. So I get a bag cut them into 3 pieces and then string them. Keeps them busy chewing them up.
  11. ROFLMAO! Thanks for the laugh!! It is all to true! {Feel-good-0002006E}
  12. Great pictures! I wish Alex would even tolerate water.
  13. Alex sounds just like a dog he growls. There is no mistaking it for anything else.
  14. They are all so true!! {Feel-good-0002006E}
  15. They are all beautiful! Love the wet birdy picture! They are just to funny when soaked!
  16. What a cutie Zzro is!! That is pretty much how Alex was too. Totally fearless and into everything right away!
  17. Are you sure she is not singing? Though Alex will sing pretty much any time he does it more when I leave the room. His song's include all the sounds he knows how to make as well as lots of chirps and whistles. Leaving her alone longer is not going to help. She could also be a closet talker. She is quite when your around but then talks when your not in the room.
  18. Alex picked up a hawk scream a couple of weekends ago. Talk about loud and annoying! But we all managed to totally ignore him when he did it. So it didn't last long. Thank God!
  19. Alex has a very small cage. It is only 24x18x36 but he spends very little time in it. It is more for sleeping. It's only once in a blue moon where we are gone all day. If we are home the birds are out. I want to get him a bigger cage at some point.
  20. I have noticed that there are a few names that do seem very common. I have not meet anyone else with a grey named Alex though. We named him Alex for 2 reasons. First is it can be both a him or her name. Second after Dr. Pepperbergs Alex.
  21. Love the pictures! Thanks for sharing! Looks like he enjoyed his outing! B)
  22. Alex is 13 months old and doesn't talk. He did say Hello once about 2 weeks ago and has not said it sence. He likes to incorporate a lot of sounds into his singing. Hello was one but sense that one time he doesn't include it anymore. He may surprise my yet but at this point I don't think he is going to talk.
  23. It's amazing how small they start out! He is so cute! Keep us posted with pictures!
