  1. I agree that it sounds more like a molt then plucking. Alex has never plucked but when he was very young he did clip a good number of them. That's when I got the palm oil, bee pollen and flax seed. He has not clipped any of his feathers sense then. Right now the house is covered in down and feathers from both birds. I can't wait for him to molt out the baby flights that were clipped. He will have so much more control then!B)
  2. If I remember right it is also very good for thier feathers. I know flax seed is also good for them. Same thing just a pinch sprinkled on top every morning. That one I don't remember what it's good for I will have to go back to my book and see. But a friend on another forum who is a behaverist also recimends both every morning. Just don't do more than the pinch of the flax seed because it can elevate hormones. Alex and Martini both like all of it! Alex's feathers are as soft as a too's. Martini has always been soft but it seems that his feathers are also softer than when we first brought him home. As a treat I will also sprinkle shreaded coconut or crushed red pepper on top. They both really like that as well. :woohoo:
  3. http://www.swansonvitamins.com/SWU269/ItemDetail?n=4294967190 I also got bee pollen from them for about the same price as the palm oil. I put the palm oil in the morning mash. The bee pollen is just a pinch sprinkled on top. He can also have the bee pollen every day.
  4. Pine nuts are just treats. Yumm! The red palm oil is good for thier skin and feathers.
  5. She is praticeing! She is working on new words or a phrase! This is totally normal and nothing to worry about but what she is going to say when she finally does! B) :woohoo:
  6. This is what I have in my ciling. I made it and the hubby helped me put it up. There is one for each bird.
  7. I know it can be frustrating but just keep trying. What I do is I eat something while saying Mmmmmm Yummy! Alex is just a year old and it's only been in the last couple of months that he would eat grapes. Before that he would just chuck them on the floor. Same for bananna. Though he will only eat a small amount from the one I happen to be eatting. Sometimes I have to play keep away with food. The more I wont let him tast the more he wants it! :silly: :side:
  8. Glad to hear that he is eatting finally! Oh and you don't need to do a dna test for tiels. They are very easy to tell male from female. Males have solid colored tail feathers. Females have striped tail feathers. If you got him from a breader he should have been able to tell you.
  9. Ah but you can get them Hanukkan presents! One for each day of Hanukkan! :woohoo:
  10. Alex and Martini will get toys and treats. The cats get really big pom pom balls. They love them! I don't get the dog anything because she doesn't like treats of any kind. Same for toys. She has a teddy bear that lives in the bedroom. I know she loves it because it moves around the bed. But you NEVER see her playing with it. We got her from the pound about 4 years ago. We are sure she was abused and she gets seperation angzity when we leave. So she just gets lots of love from us.
  11. Alex loves to hang upside down! I've never seen him do that but it doesn't mean he hasn't. That really is to funny!
  12. Congrats! I would be gloting too! {Love-0002011D}
  13. I live in CA so even though he is a great vet (I am really quite happy with him)they wont tell you anything over the phone it is ALL bring them in and let us see them. Doesn't matter what kind of animal. CA is a nice place to visit you DON'T want to live here. I love the weather but really I can't wait until the hubby can retire from the navy and we can move.
  14. Yeah I can call and ask but you know how vets are it's bring him in and lets run $300+ worth of tests. He is totally fine otherwise and I'm just a worry wort.
  15. That is just it though. Alex is no longer a baby and IS molthing. It is the NEW feathers that are coming in with the red dots. Not the old baby feathers. I always thought if it was red factor it started with red feathers as a baby and they molted out.
  16. Alex is going threw his first molt. He has always been all grey. As far as I know he doesn't have any red factor. But he now has 2 feathers that have a red dot on them. These are the new feathers coming in. It's not the whole feather it is just a red dot on the feather. It shouldn't be a lycine deficiency because he gets tons of stuff that is high in lycine. Any ideas on why he has new feathers coming in with red dots? Oh and both are on his neck.
  17. Yep it is just play! Alex has started allowing me to hold him in my hand on his back without him holding onto me. It doesn't last very long but it is so cool that he is now doing this! He has always done lots of upside down play. They can be such goofs!
  18. As everyone else has said clipping is a personal choice. Alex was clipped on one wing when we got him last year. No one told him that he wasn't suppost to be able to fly clipped. So now that he is finally starting to molt I can't wait for the clipped feathers to fall out and new flights to grow in. It is posible to potty train your bird so that he wont poo where you don't want him to. You can also teach your bird where he is not allowed to go. Martini came to us clipped. However he sees Alex flying all over and so he tries it on occation. Martini will be allowed to grow out his flight feathers and learn to fly.
  19. Welcome back! Sounds like you had fun! We took a vacation the first part of July. We were gone for 2 weeks. I was so stressed about leaving Alex. I knew he would be fine. But it didn't make it any easier to leave him. He stayed with my oldest daughter and her partner. I cryed when we left her appartment. I ended up calling every night for the first week.
  20. Marcia had 27 birds 2 of them only in the last month. They think it was a bloodclot to the heart. I heard about Marcia on another forum that I'm part of. With some of the other problems she had recently we were hoping that it was not true. She was truely a wonderful person that will be so missed!
  21. Congrats on your newest addition! :cheer:

    Red Palm Oil

That is where I got Alex's palm oil as well. I also got bee pollen from them. I got a lot more at a much cheeper price than going to the bird store or health food store. Even with the shipping!
