1. Thanks for the laughs everyone,I am spliting my sides.
2. What ever you do dont laugh,or indeed show any reaction to the un wanted words.Casper may intime not bother repeating them if it does not get him the wanted reaction.Introducing new words and activities may also help.
3. Charlie will say want some if I am eating something he likes, not if it is not to his liking. He will say bye bye when I am going out and hello when I come home.He will say yum yum when he is enjoying his fruit and calls Cracker the tiel over to his cage, the silly tiel goes over aswell,so it is with very close supervision elieve they understand they get out together.I really believe they understand a lot of what they say.

Lychees

Charlie loves them, they are good for them but they are sweet so may have a high sugar content.Charlie loves pulling the skin from them and is very carefull to eat every bit of the white flesh.
5. He is still a baby.I taught my grey to wave by picking his foot up and very gently moving it up and down while saying wave, then gave him a little treat. He caught on fast. Try this but be very patiant and keep any trainig sessions very short, 5-10 mins and never ever become frustrated or anxious. Its got to be fun.Reward the slightest move towards your goal, eg if he lifts his foot up even slightly, you can then hold on the treat untill he makes more movement. This will take time. One more thing, Never even think of punishment in any shape or form, only reward good behaviour and ignore bad.Good luck
6. Well I am going cold turkey at the moment because I cant get on as much but it makes my fixes even sweeter. It is a fantastic forum and apart from learning the people are so nice and really do feel like friends. Thanks everyone.

Its done

Mum had her operation yesterday and is doing very well. They removed the lump and some lymph nodes for biopsy.I stayed at the hospital from7 am till around 4pm when she got back from surgery. She is up and about this morning and it is even a big posability she may come home later today.A nurse will be coming out daily as she has drainage tubes in the op site. They warned us yesterday morning that she would come back from theatre looking very grey and slightly blue because of a die they inject so the affected lymph nodes will show up and she looked awfull but she is absolutely great today. If the Lymphnodes are involved then she will need another op but we wont know till next week. For now I am just happy we got through this and we take things as they come in the next few weeks Post edited by: she, at: 2009/03/10 14:17

Post edited by: she, at: 2009/03/10 14:18
8. I have never had any real dominance issues with Charlie,I am only small and his cage top perch is higher than me but I find he steps up quite willing on to my hand or a stick. My findings is that it is down to the indevidual grey and how well he responds to step up.A very timid bird may feel more secure higher than you or a very dominant bird may respond if he is lower.I feel you need more time to get to know your grey and him you.It can take a while.
9. Charlie has his moments but on the whole is quiet.
10. This is so sad. How can anyone be so stupid.Dont be discouraged,be more determined to help poor birds like Roswel.I am preying for a safe return, and not to those idiots.

Darwin Questions

I would place the cage where you spend most time.Have you thought of having a stand or another cage in the living room so Darwin can also go with you there. Quarantine is very important but also very dificult in a house. Some illness is air born so it is almost imposible. All we can do is our best.Always ensure you wash your hands between seing to each bird, use seperate cleaning utensils, keep them as far as possible from each other, make sure feed dishes are cleaned properly and keep a close look out for any sign of illness.

Post edited by: she, at: 2009/03/07 21:24
12. I am so glad you now know what is wrong with Sooty.Yes vets are expensive. As you have found out, insurance is a must. Please keep us informed of Sootys condition.
13. I had to be very hard on myself when my vet phoned a few months ago and asked me to take a Grey who had been left at the surgery,No was the hardest word and it stuck in my throat but I just had to be realistic.I dont have the time ot space for another, not to mention the finances.
14. I never use grates in my cages. I feel they are a risk to foot and leg injury. I change the papers in the cage at least twice a day.Never had any problems,I just make sure the cages are clean.
15. You cant stop a cat reacting to instinct.Sometimes the solution is to have a think on rehoming.Hard I know but one day the parrot will come unstuck.
16. I have only left Charlie once and my Dad came and stayed in my house while I was away. Apart from being spoilt rotten by my Dad he was fine.
17. My two both get covers on the cage of a night, they seem to know when its bed time and to me they actually welcome the covers.
18. Hi, to my knowledge Metacam is an anti inflamitory and pain killer,My grey was on it when he hurt his wing.I believe if you are providing a good diet vitamins are not needed, except in certain cases, where a vet will advise.
19. I am glad the blood work is now fine.Whisper is a nice looking grey.
20. Greys never fail to amaze with theit inteligence and logic.
21. I am hoping for Roberts safe return.
22. Welcome. Hope you love it hear as much as I do.Cant wait to hear more about your birds and see some pics.
23. No it does not matter. What matters is that it is well socialised and cared for and loved .They are all special
