pearllyn replied to RhonnieS's topic in Welcome & Introduction Room
Hi Rhonnie, Welcome to the Forum and Karma to you for rescuing your Grey. He sounds like an absolute gem - a real character, and I'm sorry, but I had to laugh out loud too, when I read the turdhead bit! Verbal sounds like a real sweetie too, do you have any video of their conversations? Would love to see some. Great pics too. Bye for now. Lyn & Alfie xx

Post edited by: pearllyn, at: 2009/10/13 21:07 -

Aww nice - Happy Hatchday Talon! x

Thanks Judy, and you're welcome - I like to share! I think that video is quite amusing! And thanks also, Dan, I think so too, although mischievous is an understatement at the minute!

Got the video uploaded at last - lost connection 3 times while it was downloading! It's only 30 seconds! xx

A good idea to keep a video diary of Ollies progress - he is lovely by the way! When I first brought Alfie home, I was so busy worrying that I was doing everything right (first grey too) I didn't fully appreciate her wonderful baby-ness! Enjoy these precious first few months.

Show Me Yours... And I'll Show You Mine

Oooh, just found this thread - and yes, the title did catch my attention! There are some lovely tattoos, I specially like the one of Secretariat - he won the triple crown the year I was born. My first tat was a little horse on my lower right back, that was about ten years ago, and just had the flowers put on my foot this year. David and I would like to get one more tat - a symbol that means instinct, but so far we haven't been able find any, and it has been suggested to us that instinct is a fairly modern word, and so may not have any old symbols for it! Can anyone help with that? x Post edited by: pearllyn, at: 2009/10/13 15:39

Post edited by: pearllyn, at: 2009/10/13 21:16 -
It's common sense stuff, really isn't it. Thanks again Dan!

Lol, no Judy, if you try to hide stuff from her, it makes it all the more irresistable! x

Post edited by: pearllyn, at: 2009/10/13 15:03

On the whole, Paddy was happily married, with an active sex life - only one small problem, in 15 years of marriage his wife had never had an orgasm! They finally thought enough was enough, and decided to seek the advice of their Doctor. The Doctor listened to their story and the only thing he could suggest was perhaps the wife was too warm during the throws of passion and this was preventing her from, you know! Paddy told his wife not to worry he had an idea. That evening, he got his very good friend Michael to fan his wife with a large towel to keep her cool while they were having at it! For an hour or so Michael stood with his big towel had flapped it non stop. Unfortunately, it did not have the desired effect, and poor old Paddy's wife was, again, left unsatisfied. They thought on it for a while, until eventually the wife suggested, perhaps Paddy and his friend could switch places and try it that way? Eager to please his wife Paddy agreed, so he waved the towel while Michael made love to his wife. Within 15 minutes it was all over, and the wife laid back with a big sigh, fully satisfied. At that, Paddy turned round to Michael with a smug grin and said, "....and that, my friend, is how you flap a towel!"

Hay Folks! Alfies Lego came yesterday, and I'm very happy to report it seems to be a success - she was driving us nuts with her pen pinching! I was a little concerned she wouldn't be interested in the Lego or maybe scared of it, but as soon as she saw me put it on the desk with a "Do Not Touch" sign in front of it, that was it! She was straight in as soon as my back was turned. Here are some pics, and I'm working on uploading the video! She still has the attention span of a paperclip though, and something else soon caught her eye! Never mind, the Lego keeps her occupied for a good two and a half minutes at a time! Hope you and yours are all well. Lyn & Alfie xx

Hi Raiderbabe, Just to let you know, my grey, Alfie is 20 months old now, and I have just gone through a similar thing with her that you are describing with Malibu. Around 8 weeks ago Alfie started biting me, hard. She would draw blood every time. I posted a plea for help on here - very much sounding like yours! With all the good advice I got, I'm very pleased to say we have turned a corner, and our relationship is great at the moment. I have to say though, that it did get a tiny little bit worse before it got better, because as Dan said, she's testing you to see how much she can get away with! I got through it by largely not reacting to the bites - it hurts a little less when you clench your fist if you know it's coming! When Alf was really naughty, I gave her a time out in a travel cage with no toys and no contact for 5 minutes, she got the message very quickly and the biting stopped. I must stress though that these time outs were saved for only the really bad behaviour, and not given lightly. Dan, you said "You do need to recognize his desire NOT to step up at times and just leave him be. Unless you need to move him for a good reason. " Is it just a case of, if we really need to handle them when they don't want it, just to grit our teeth and take the bite? It's very easy to see when Alfie doesn't want to, say, go back in her cage, but if I let her stay out, then she is calling the shots. how do we get round that? Bribery does help, but is that a good idea? Hang in there Radierbabe - there is definitely a light at the end of the tunnel! Lyn & Alfie xx

I realise this is an old thread, but after the issues of wing clipping were raised recently, I thought I'd read through some older posts. WHEW!!! And that's all I have to say about that!

Hi Sam & Roddy, Welcome to the Forum! Sam it sounds as though you adore this bird - wanting to make him the happiest bird alive is quite a goal to aim for!! As the others have said, you haven't had him long and he just needs to settle in a bit. hopefully the biting will stop. I've had my grey since May 08, and she really only started to test me sort of this summer with her nips, but we are coming to an understanding and the biting has largley stopped! So don't be put of because Roddy is biting at the minute - there is hope!! Good luck with her. Lyn & Alfie xx
