  4. Oh dear Dan - that sounds familiar! I wanted Alfie, now Alfie wants David! I do get her cuddles tho, so thankful for that! Goodness Katana, David must be smitten to forgive a bite to the face, not many would! I'm glad he stopped aggravating you long enough for you to post this!! x
  5. Just had a peek at the webcam - it's so exciting! Thanks so much Dave for sharing it with us. x
  6. I've been wondering how Rishi is too......
  7. Hi Mary Jo & Cookie, Welcome to the forum and well done for helping Cookies feathers to grow back. Basically, the way it works here, is if you have something to say, or a question to ask, just hit the forums button at the top of any page, decide which room best suits your topic and go into that forum room. There you will see a red "post new topic" button, and it's as easy as that! You can also chat live with members in the live chat box on the left hand side of the any page. There are loads of really interesting and informative older threads in here so don't be shy, have a good old poke around! Glad to have you with us Bye for now. Lyn & Alfie. xx
  8. This is a really interesting thread Julie - it's great to hear where everyones birds sleep. I would love to see a pic of Argyle with his head in the bell too! Alfie loves loves loves her birdie bunk. It's homemade and a little bigger than the bought ones - she grew out of her first fairly quickly. She goes to bed at 10pm most nights, I sometimes let her stay up a wee bit longer if we've been away for the day. Her bunk isn't the highest point in the cage, there is a swing higher up, and sometime during the day, she will sit on top of the bunk, but come bed time she just climbs straight into her bunk and snuggles in! She's usually still in it when we take the cover off in the morning! As far as cleaning goes, I just hoover it when required, and have re-covered it a couple of times. xx
  9. Hi Elle & Elvis! Welcome to the forum! SOrry to hear you're having trouble with your new baby, he does sound a little troubled with the trembling. If he's not eating tho, that sounds a little more serious. There are alot of very knowlegable members in this forum who will give you some excellent advice, just be patient for some replies - a lot of our members come from different contries! In the meantime, some more info would be helpful, ie, was he hand reared, did you get him direct from the breeder, or has he had another home inbetween? Is he pooping ok? Getting him to a specialist vet to have him checked over (if you haven't already) is a must - if there is anything seriously wrong with him, the sooner you catch it the better. Do you have an avian vet where you live - we have to travel around and hour and a half to see ours. It could be that he's just been upset by the move and that he'll come round, but better to be safe than sorry. Anyway, it's nice to have you and Elvis here, this forum has been a great help to me and Alfie in the last year or so. I'm sure you'll find it helpful too! BYe for now, Lyn & Alfie xx
  10. Hi Lisa, it does look like Mango has some tiny little pins coming through there! Is she leaving them alone or still picking at them? Hopefully now she has a loving home she will forget about her habit! x
  11. Aw BLess! They look so vulnerable without feathers! Mango is lucky to have found you! And Rocky is such a cutie! It looks like they are going to be Pals! Welcome to the forum! Lyn & Alfie xx
  12. Thank you Jilly. Alfie still prefers her veggies mashed but I shall try her with one of those. Will let you now what she thinks! x
  13. Gone with the wind? "you just put your pickle on everbodies plate, college boy, and leave the hard stuff to me."
  14. Aw, bless steve for doing all that when he didn't really want a bird! And Mike isn't crazy about her? I think the kisses kind of give it away! Nice stories folks. Thanks for sharing! x P.s. thanks for the Karma, Luvparrots
  15. Lol Dabandbella, I do feel my horses are genuinly scared of the 3 headed monsters - especially the horse eating variety! I do think tho that on some things, they take the mickey a wee bit, and while of course every horse is and will react differently, they are flight animals and their first and strongest instinct is to get away from these monsters! If my horse is not really scared but just having a little tizzy, they give up the fight a lot quicker than if they are actually scared of it! x
  16. Dan that's an interesting read! THanks for the link. Particle77, that is helpful info also. I have read that there have only been limited studies pertaining to interocular transfer (IOT) that is visual transmission of information from the left and right hemispheres of the brain in horses. The reason that this is an issue is due to the role the corpus callosum plays in the transfer of visual information. The function of the corpus callosum in horses is very different than that of a human. These nerve bundles that connect the hemispheres of the brain function in a more independent way in the horse. This independence in the transfer of information allows the horse to act and react to the information coming from each eye. The left horse sees and reacts as well as the right horse. Really it is as if you have two horses that your are riding and teaching. We have always had to teach both the left and right side of the horse. I just wondered if it were the same for parrots as they have eyes on the sides of their head same as horses, but clearly, from Dan's link, parrots brains are wired very differently! Thanks everyone! x
  17. I have thousands and thousands of photos, but barely any of Alf - I don't think she likes havin her photo taken, it scared her when she was young so I just didn't do it, I'm wishing now I'd just been a bit sneaky and taken them anyway cos I've hardly any baby pics! Here's some wildlife shots I've taken lately. I'm going on a day photography course next weekend so hopefully I'll be taking more soon! Hope you and yours are all well! x
  18. Harvey is soooo brave - Alfie would definitley be scared of that bean! Is it raw?
  19. Lol Judy, you're excused - I've often scoffed at it, I guess it's a "you had to be there" moment. I kind of understand tho - I'm scared stiff of spiders - know they couldn't hurt me (not the ones I come across anyway) but still get hysterical if one looks at me! x
  20. Thanks Judy. I just noticed I've put two posts in the welcome room when they should've gone in the grey lounge! No idea how I managed that! x
  21. David, for totally accepting Alf in our Family, even tho it was me who really wanted her, and before we got our grey, David had a serious phobia of Birds! I've heard a lot of snippets in differents posts on here about members "other halfs" and just thought it would be nice to sing their praises in their very own thread! As I said, David had a real phobia of "flappy feathered things". When we first went to see Alfie at the breeders, and she was sitting there all wee and cuddly, the breeder got one of the Macaws out of the cage, and it just hung upside down off his hand, flapping it's head off. Well David stood back and the colour just drained from his face! I thought, that's it, no baby for me! Obviously that wasn't the case, and as some of you know we had one or two trials and tribulations with Alf over the past few months. Alfie is very much leaning towards David as her favourite at the moment, and he's completely taking it in his stride. Sometimes he walks past with Alf on his shoulder, or hanging of his fingers and say " I can't believe I've got a parrot hanging off my fingers!" and he really can't, I think after being afraid of birds for so long (bad experience with chickens as a child) it's surreal to him now!. Anyway, I just wanted to let you all know how brilliant I think he is for stepping in to handle Alf when she's not in the mood to come to me - I'd be stuck without him. Would like to hear all your stories of happy helpers! Hope you and yours are all well. Lyn and Alf xx
  22. Hi Folks, I just read a post about a grey being scared of her toys. Alfie is awfly suspicious of new toys and can take up to 2/3 weeks to accept some. When I'm working with the horses, if I'm out on a ride and come across something that scares them, it can take up to half an hour or more to get them to go past that scary object, but they will eventually go past it. if you pass the same object on the way back, therefore your horse is seeing it out of the other eye, you have to go through the whole process again ie even if his right eye has seen and accepted something, the information isn't be passed on to the left eye! Horses aren't stupid, it's just the way they're wired. I'm wondering if it's the same for the parrots, with their eye's working indepenantly of each other like horses do? HOpe you and yours are all well Lyn & Alf xx
  23. Alfie can take easily two weeks to accept some toys, size is a definite factor - she's happier with smaller ones (big brave bird!)
  24. Hi ShadesofGrey and ChickPea! Welcome to the forum. I've been on here a year and a half and only just managed to master posting pics via photobucket! It's really quite easy once it's explained, as Jilly said, there are good threads on here - I'm sure you'll get it much quicker than I did! Bye for now. Lyn & ALf xx
