  1. Aly, Alfie would always use the floor to take her places that her wings couldn't, ie through doorways, before she was confident enough to negotiate them on the wing. ALso, we have curtains separating a large open room. The curtains were put up to keep Alf in the half we wanted her in, but she thought nothing of going to ground and just walking through them!! Now she has mastered flying through them even if there is no gap - she just flies straight at the line, closes her wings for a split second and lets the momentum take her through! I'm amazed at her confidence, and it sounds as if your grey is just as confident on the floor. It's great that your just letting her take her time, and maybe she will feel confident enough to try flying when she feels ready. x<br><br>Post edited by: pearllyn, at: 2009/10/09 15:02
  2. Hmmm - Alf isn't fussed about juice, will try again tho. she does pick through the birdie bread tho, so i mix alsorts in with that! Will keep persisting! x
  3. The reason my breeder gave me for not clipping was a straightforward welfare one. They need the power of flight to strengthen their chest muscles. If they are denied this from a young age the chest muscles never develop fully. Then you have the problem of excersise - birds keep fit by flying, and if they are unable to do so, you may have to deal with other health issues such as obesity at a later stage. When I first got Alf, I decided to leave her wings until she was fully developed physically, then decide if clipping was going to be needed a couple of years down the line. When she first started flying (it's very exciting!) she did fly into windows, but never into the same one twice, and at this stage, she wasn't accomoplished enough to be flying at any great speed, and so never hurt herself. She is now 20 months old, fully flighted and pure joy to watch when she is doing her arial manouvers! I won't ever be clipping her. Incedently, from the birds point of view, Alf went through a wee phase earlier this year, when she did lose her flying ability after she chewed her feathers off. When it dawned on her that she could no longer fly, she was so blue, it was heartbreaking to watch. Her feathers have all since regrown, and thankfully, she is leaving them alone now! As others have said, you can stil have the same dangers with a flighted bird that you have with an unflighted one. GOod luck with making the right decision.
  4. Great pics, thanks. I haven't seen them "live " yet, Camilla won't step aside long enough!! x

  7. Hi Janica! Well done - you found it! You'll have lots of advice before long, but be patient, as a lot of our members are in different countries! I'm not experienced enough to give the advice you're looking for, but I can say welcome to the site! Lyn & ALfie x

  10. I think the trouble with something like this is, people will see it as a free for all - very dangerous!
  11. Did you mean the sock one Bernie?
  12. Emma is such a sweetie! How did you convert her on to the Harrisons, or has she always had it?
  13. A lady approaches her priest and tells him "Father, I have a problem. I have two female talking parrots, but they only know how to say one thing." "What do they say?" the priest inquired. "They only know how to say, 'Hi, we're prostitutes. Want to have some fun?'" "That's terrible!" the priest exclaimed, "but I have a solution to your problem. Bring your two female parrots over to my house and I will put them with my two male talking parrots whom I taught to pray and read the bible. My parrots will teach your parrots to stop saying that terrible phrase and your female parrots will learn the joys of praise and worship." "Thank you!" the woman responded. The next day the woman brings her female parrots to the priest's house. His two male parrots are holding the rosary beads and praying in their cage. The lady puts her two female parrots in with the male parrots and the female parrots say "Hi we're prostitutes, want to have some fun?" One male parrot looks over at the other male parrot and exclaims, "Put the beads away, brother. Our prayers have been answered!"<br><br>Post edited by: pearllyn, at: 2009/10/06 21:19
  14. You need to read this one with an accent! Paddy decides to visit his very good friend, Murphy, who has just been in a terrible accident and has two broken kneecaps! He walks into Murphey's house and can't believe the state his friend is in - both legs in plaster up to the hip with just his feet sticking out the ends. Paddy feels awful for his friend and asks if there's anything he can do for him. Murphey says he is ok really, but would Paddy mind going upstairs to get a pair of socks for him, as his feet are a bit cold. Paddy says no trouble at all and heads off up the stairs to find a pair of socks. He opens the door to one of the bedrooms and finds Murphey's twin daughters lounging on the bed with just their underwear on! These are the two most beautiful women Paddy has ever seen, and while he tries hard to resist,Paddy is simply overcome with lust for the 20 year olds. He tells them that their father is feeling very low with the accident but he has told his best friend that he would feel much better if Paddy would go upstairs to make passionate love to his two daughters. Now these girls aren't stupid, so they ask Paddy to prove this. Paddy says no problem, and shouts down to his friend, "Murphey, did you mean both of them?" To which Murphey replies "Of course I meant both of them! What good would £*@@ing one be?!"
  15. Actually, I was thinking about a Painting by numbers Kit! Dear me Jilly, you do make me laugh! And my, what a talented young fellow Harvey is! You'll be telling us he's driving the car next?! x
  16. Lol - thanks Pat. I think Alfie will like it, it's small enough not to freak her out! x
  17. Hi folks, Just wondering if anyone can tell me if it's ok to let Alfie play with Lego? Thanks in advance. Hope you and yours are all well. Lyn & Alfie. xx
  18. It's great to see Rishi feeling better - thanks for sharing the pictures! x
  19. A nice story and some lovely pictures too! Thanks for sharing and reviving! x
  20. Congratulations on your first arrival - I'm watching them at the minute - that's me stuck for the rest of the day! Thanks so much for sharing. x
  21. Not really a conversation, but Alfie was climbing down the curtains comando style this morning, to get to the top of the fridge where she knows she not allowed! She bumped her head on the wall on the way down, we heard it, then she let out the biggest "OOOoooooowwwww!" We were helpless!
  22. Absolutely! They will gobble anything Alfie cares to throw at them, veg, fruit nuts, the lot! And one of them is a chihuahua - the fussiest of the fussy! She will even make off with the peanuts in shells that I don't give to Alf! Good little hoovers tho! x
  23. We often just listen to music rather than have the telly on, and yes, Alfie always competes with it!
  24. I'm so sorry for your loss Deb, you have my heartfelt condolences. xx
  25. The first time ALfie encountered fireworks, they were right outside, maybe 60 yards away. We turned the music chanel up (as we always do for the dogs), but you could still hear them a little, Alf flapped a wee bit until I took her to the window so she could actually see them, and she was fine. She's been in her cage for every display since and they don't seem to bother her! GOod luck with Harvey. Has he gotten over this evenings fright? x
