Linda: can't make it to NH - meet you half way? I'm just teasing, that is a bit to much  As I continued my research on Cockatoos I think I've had a change of heart/mind. Agreed about the attention and as much as I still want one I think Woody and I's relationship would take a nose dive if I had to give that much attention to a 'too. I visited my parents today at their vacation home and we were riding around the neighbor hood on a golf cart and there was this lady outside with a Macaw. I yelled "stop the cart stop the cart!" as I just had to get out and talk to her. I met Odell (the macaw) who promptly said "Hello!" as soon as I walked up to the porch. I spoke with the lady about him, his habits, talking ability, attention needs, diet, got to see his cage etc.etc. - it was pretty cool and great timing that I just so happen to be on the fence about which species to get. I think I'm going to head toward Macaw. I have read about the 'mini macaws' but one of the reasons I was leaning toward them was their size and beauty (is that shallow? ) . Thank you all for your help! <3

I'm curious to know how much poop it holds too...I would LOVE to get woody one, we could explore so many more places! However, if only for an hour, no point really. Also, any tips for getting it on one seriously-not-liking-flight suit-attitude stricken CAG? I think he'd look hot in a a TUX! Also, do the liners come out and you wash that, or are they paper and you pitch them and wash the whole thing?

Post edited by: Anmlhggr, at: 2008/10/05 16:29

I give Woody high potency coarse, he likes being able to grip them and then dunk them in his water for a second or two and then he will hold one in his foot and eat it slowly - relishes every bite. I don't think he would be able to do that so well with the fine. What's your birds eating style?

Yea, since it's the weekend my landlord isn't here to notice that most of them are missing hehe.  I had posted several times concerning the fact that Woody never plays with toys, he never would touch most of what I got him...to see him go at this phone book that's a whole 'nother side to him! And it's adorable to see him attack it and rip it apart. He gets all poofy and just charges!! :woohoo:

Awww that is so sweet! I remember when I first got him I was so nervous, I never thought he would even LIKE me  Thanks Judy for putting my mind at rest! Now I know someone who deserves some hugs.... :woohoo:

How many people have TAG's and How many have CAG's

Woody is a CAG -
So tonight I was playing with Woody and he all of a sudden started stretching his head out and his neck got all big, then he would be back to normal and then stretch his head out again etc. etc. and did this maybe 5 times one after another. All of a sudden a big brown almond looking thing came out of his mouth. (It wasn't an almond, it was brown and shaped that way, but once I took it from him it just crumbled - it was warm and smelly lol). He bit half off and gave me the other half and then ate his half.... He is still eating and drinking normal, he looks fine as well and still acting playful etc. Now, I live in an apartment complex and our phone books were delivered today and I stole like 8 of them and he has been shredding one of them all day long, (my little champion is almost half way through it! ) Maybe he ingested some paper? Or maybe it's a master compliment to me for stealing phone books for him... what do you think? lol

I've heard that too, but that might be good - I know I would give Woody lots more attention, but he eventually gets to the point where he is like "GET OFF ME!" haha, he's like the teenager who is embarrassed to have his mother smother them with kisses.

That's cute! I am leaning towards a cockatoo because of their clown like nature and funny, comfortable attitudes. Can anyone tell me anything that is maybe 'off the books' about them? Personal experiences etc.?

I have spent all day reading and I've heard several people say that their Grey's do not get along with the rest of their flock - as I don't believe Woody would much. He might appreciate some one to whistle to while I'm at work, but he would not be the cuddly type I believe. Makes me wonder...I want another Grey (or other, still thinking) - would it be selfish to get one if Woody doesn't like it?

So I'm considering getting a companion for Woody, my 6 year old CAG. He has never had another flock mate (a bird I mean) so I'm kind of apprehensive that he would hate anyone I bring home! He is very protective of me. I think maybe if I handle everything correctly it might work out, or maybe get a bird bigger than him so he's to 'scared' to pick a fight? Or a bird smaller so he doesn't feel threatened? Woody is my first parrot and so I am nervous about adding another member, but I would like one and I think he would in the long run as well. I'd love to get a Macaw, but I'd also like to know more about them. I'm open to any and all suggestions, I'd like to learn about all my options - and I'd LOVE to hear your advice. Tell me about your bird's - what species are they, what do you like most about them? Is that trait specific to the species? (I.E cockatoos clown like behavior). I think I got spoiled getting my CAG and his cage and toys etc. for $100 (USD)...and now I'm looking at other birds and they are, of course, 800+...hehe Whew...thank you in advance! {Love-0002011E} -Amberly and Woody!

Wow, that is scary/creepy. Woody does NOTHING even remotly similar to that, and he was watching the movie with me...he was not happy to hear that sound!
-
Oh my goodness that is to cute! Woody hasn't been able to connect names with items yet, but we're still working on it! Aww, what a cutie you have!
-
Thank you all for your kind words Woody truly is a sweety and I'm blessed to have him!

Let us know how your vet visit goes, I'm sure an avain vet would have many, many answers! Hope all goes well!
-
Hehe. Truth be told, I personally have no idea as I'm still working my ends and outs with bird ownership but....wanted to let you know this makes me laugh! Maybe she refuses so that you WILL put her back in the cage? Does she like to come out?
-
If she is just going to dinner, than I would imagine it would be ok....as long is she isn't staying out overnight. If he is in his cage and she is only gone a few hours, I wouldn't worry about it. After all, you leave for hours at a time as well, yes? Hope this helps!

Hello my loves! It's been so long since I've had the pleasure of everyone's company, work has been keeping me so busy along with school, then Ike hit us and no power for like a week and a half, whew! Anyway, Just checking in, Woody is still my little joy-schmoobie-bundle, but he is getting spoiled! We went to the vet last week and 280.00 USD later, all of his annual bloodwork, cultures, and tests checked out fine - which is great news! We're also still building relationship, since we are still relatively new to one another in the grand scheme of the next 50 years we are going to spend together, so I've included a picture of one of our little love moments! Hope all is well with everyone, hopefully I'll see ya'll on the forums!

Thank you so much! I now have a new bookmark to add to my long list! hehe
-
Will do! Time to go practice... hehe
-
I am still working on it, he just doesn't seem motivated. He isn't very curious....unless I am pretending to eat it!!!
-
Thank you all for your ideas!! I read that pill box post too, and I actually went out and bought some... however, Woody is refusing to forage. Lazy bird. He just likes to sit on his play stand (that he does not play on) and preen. Same thing in his cage. Preen. Eat. Preen. Poop. Preen. Poop. Rinse and repeat.

That is all too cute! Woody loaths water, and I have never seen him fritz out into his water dish before... No cutie wet bird for me :'(
