  1. Picture speaks for itself, eh?
  2. Nothing that I had noticed, I read on the link that Lovemy posted that stress could cause excessive urination..
  3. No, I wouldn't have to give him back.. I don't think! I couldn't blow her off - that would be verrry bad I think! lol She even mailed me a copy of her book with a note written on the title page..so.. I'm in between a rock and a hard spot. Yes, she does seem a little overbearing but I think she honestly just wants what's best for the bird. Whew! It's soo nice I have you folks..I'd be going crazy. Good new though! I got a new toy for Woody today, its one of those kids toys you have the multi-colored rings and shapes that you have to put on a little peg...well, he will take them out of my hand and doesn't seem to distraught about my fingers anymore!! :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:
  4. Thank you both for the comforting words, I just don't want to mess anything up. I feel like a mom who doesn't want to ruin their baby's childhood.
  5. It's the same as what I was thinking- he just needs time- but Maggie seems really distraught about it, so I'm torn. He doesn't mind hands I don't think..maybe just mine? Bless his little heart!
  6. LOL, I am so glad woody just drops everything, no throwing yet! Locked bowls...hmm...brilliant!!
  7. Ahh, ok, yes it is clear. I just had not heard of bird's peeing. I didn't know it existed Thanks folks! Thanks Lovemy for the link!
  8. So, as most of you know I just got woody from a lady named Laureen. Now, I met Laureen through a lady named Maggie (Author of "Complete pet owner's guide: African Grey")...Woody seems to be doing fine, and I've been keeping Maggie and Laureen updated about his behavior etc. Maggie seems very, very concerned that he is not stepping up for me. She says that if he is used to personal attention I should be handling him as much as possible during the first two weeks because that is going to set up the bounds of our relationship. Now, I would love to handle him, but obviously he is not letting me. I've contacted my Local Avian vet, the Columbus Bird club, and all the pet stores that sell Greys. I've gotten some suggestions such as "Try to get him to step up onto a perch then move him to a neutral area, then work on stepping up to your hand". The perch Laureen gave me she never used, so he is deathly afraid of it, thus I don't want to push that. I am relying this to Maggie, and she seems really upset about it. So she wants me to have someone come out to my place to physically SHOW me how it's done. Some one who is very experienced and knows the ropes. Maybe I'm just doing something wrong. I feel like a failed owner - Maggie is upset about the whole thing. So, is there anyone in/near Columbus who would help me? I'm sure we could work something out. -Amberly
  9. Oh, Mas, I am soo sorry about the whole ordeal. It sounds just awful! Make sure to find another vet ASAP! I would have killed him after the feather was removed...what a you-know-what. I would think that as long as there is nothing that she can get hurt on / destroy while she's out, go a head and leave her out...but I'm sure there is someone here who can give you a more knowledgeable explanation.
  10. I don't know if birds have 'diarrhea' per say..maybe he is just peeing? In the last 10 minutes he has had three very, very wet 'dumps'..is this a sign of maybe illness? Or is this just him peeing? -Amberly
  11. Thank God! Whew! It was really, really hot in here for a bit.... MUCHO karma for you!

    Help!

So, this morning I am eating some mac and cheese and the clever little birdy steals a noodle off my fork! I think I remember reading some where that human saliva can kill a Grey...is this true? The fork had saliva on it..   I'm Uber stressing out! :( -Amberly
  13. Ahh yes, I am glad I checked! Thanks much!
  14. So, my boyfriend and I LOVE Chinese food and as a result I have tons of fortune cookies, would they be ok as a toy/snack if I do (or dont?) take the paper out? Thanks in advance! -Amberly
  15. Grats! I just got my Grey, Woody, as well! Today is his first 'real day' here!
  16. I'm unsure of the objects, but my Grey - Woody - I keep him covered at night and he has done fine so far. He is located in my kitchen/dining room area, not the bedroom.
  17. Good info! Thanks! I'm sure I'd have this question eventually! Now I know before I even ask!
  18. Welcome! Have some cake! <] Everyone here is very nice, and I'm new here as well Can't wait to see you around!

    Red Palm Oil

Dave007 - thanks much for that link! I was wondering if this was something I could buy at walmart! lol
  20. Wonderful reading! We will keep practicing! :cheer:
  21. Ok, so he will now come out of his cage, he especially likes it when I have the top of the cage open...but still no stepping up
  22. When I try to get him to step up he reaches down and takes a quick bite, its just a warning however, but should I keep my hand in there? Or bring it out?
  23. He was fine with it, while I was fixing myself breakfast, he even walked out onto the cage door, looked at me then walked back in lol I think he wants clean food because he keeps putting it in his beak, then dipping it in his water, THEN eats it I am trying to devise a way to coax him out of the cage / step up!
