  1. Oh my gosh that is so cute! :woohoo:
  2. ROAR! I CAN FEEL THE TENSION! I love burdies. Loosen up ya'll
  3. Oh also, by the way. I wouldn't just stick them in there together straight away  , I would wait a bit before I did.
  4. So, I'm looking into getting another bird, a B&G macaw, but in the mean time I've been looking at cages. This cage here https://www.kingscages.com/cages/european-cages/model-507/prod_9.html is for sale on craiglist for 600. Do you think it would be wise to get this, sell Woodys current cage and have him in one half with my new Macaw in the other? Or would that be super stressful and what really concerns me is that somehow they might get into a fight between the cage bars and hurt one another. Or is there spacing between the divider that prevents this? Does anyone have this type of cage?
  5. Oh my goodness I'm so nervous! I am going to be glued to the PC all night now! Good thing I have to go do vaccine clinic tonight ... I need a distraction waiting for the lady to email me back!
  6. I know, it's so crazy how these things happen to me. I was looking for an african grey and boom great deal on one (and I'm SO THANKFUL!) and now this. I'm blessed!
  7. Here is a link to him: http://indianapolis.craigslist.org/pet/870270317.html
  8. Lovemy, That would be excellent! Right now I'm actually communicating with someone In Indianapolis, IN who wants to rehome their B&G and he comes with a cage so we'll see how it goes :woohoo::woohoo: , but I would still like to know just in case Thanks!
  9. Woody's cage is similar to the one you posted Tycos_mom, but I need one for Mr. Superbeak! Since I think I'll be rescuing I know that most of the rescues don't come with a cage, and I'm looking for an affordable one (which just means more money to spend doing tests at the vet and buying toys! ) So far, I haven't found many helpful websites regarding Macaws and cages.
  10. The one with parrot head to cheek
  11. I'm buying a cage that would fit a Macaw since I'm hoping to get one sometime in the future. I've been looking online craigslist, ebay...etc. etc. and I would like you to take a look at this link and tell me if you think this one is to small. It's a good price and it looks big to me, but pictures can be deciving. Also I know that my new family member wouldn't be spending very much time in the cage - just like Woody doesn't spend much time at all in his so I know that I don't need a monster 3,000 USD cage  , but I would like that my new baby could be in comfortably and so that it wouldn't be cruel if I was unable to get him out for whatever reason....know what I mean? Thanks in advance!! http://cgi.ebay.com/30-PARROT-CAGE-BIRD-cages-birds-perch-stand-0119-122_W0QQitemZ310089612725QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item310089612725&_trkparms=39%3A1%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A15%7C240%3A1318&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14 Also, if this one is too small (as it very well might be) what demensions to you recommend? Do you have pictures of what your macaws cages look like? <br><br>Post edited by: Anmlhggr, at: 2008/10/08 20:03
  12. Yes, that is us on the first batch Yea I was having some trouble impressing the previous owner and etc. - but they know now that I'm a compitent grey owner lol  Woody is doing so wonderful, we're still learning some basics, but he's doing great! I can't believe I ever lived with out him!
  13. Those are very nice! Woody would LOVE the one with the toliet paper, as he is shredding phone book at the moment! (doesn't seem to dig the wood very much.. ) If I were you I would make a web site, they have many free ones you can use and advertise on google etc. - that way you can control all your profits! I agree, ebay and paypal have gotten greedy. Let us know if you make one! I'd be a customer!
  14. Oh boy! *rubs hands* here we go!
  15. I'm definately going to call him after class today! :woohoo:
  16. {Love-000200C5} I know what I'll be visiting tonight! I called a pet store that is about an hour away from me and they have a B&G Macaw I would like to visit, so maybe I'll be able to head that way tonight! (Depends on if the gas prices have finally dropped! :woohoo: )
  17. Whew, here we go! 1) When I first got my CAG, Woody, he wouldn't let me take him out of his cage either, he would only come out on his own - he'd bite me if I stuck my hand in there! So yes, I could see that as being 'normal' for a while while the two of you are getting adjusted to one another. If it has been a long time then I would let him know that he can't just boss me around anymore, it's down to training time. Try enticing him with an almond or his favorite treat! 2) Woody will only let me pet him on his head and neck, he sqeaks if I go anywhere else, and like BMustee said, it can lead to sexual frustration which = bad behavior. 3) Lot's of Greys have habits of when is their 'time to shine' - Woody sings at sunup...and boy does he sing! (At least until breakfast and then he just mumbles ) 4) Yogurt in small doses is perfectly fine, but Grey's can't digest dairy, so not too much! 5) The minute Woody hears the shower start or sees the spray bottle he is OUTTA THERE at the speed of light. He will even hop down to the floor and make a beeline for my boyfriend or his cage! Once every other month or so he will get freaky in his water bowl at which time I try to move him to a cake pan full of lukewarm bath water, which he enjoys. Bathing is a part of life for humans and it needs to be for Greys. 6) Actually this morning I tried to put Woody on his back and he would NOT have it. (I think he is still a little angry at me, I'll break out the noodles later  ) It's a matter of what your Grey prefers. B) Hopefully that'll be a bit of insight for ya! :cheer:<br><br>Post edited by: Anmlhggr, at: 2008/10/07 20:09
  18. Welcome Railchik! And yes, we are all like a big family, it's wonderful, glad to have you as a 'sis'! When I let Woody, my CAG, perch on my hand he steps up onto two fingers that I have held out to him, my pointer and then my middle finger, one next to another. Woody seems secure when he stands like that - he can wrap his talons around my fingers but yet it's not too small. I've read and heard (like the others here have said) that twelve months is the 'key' month for talking. Just keep chatting away and I'm sure your baby will be an excellent chatter box!
  19. Well of course! The lady who runs this site (Maggie) is verrrrry nice, she is the one who hooked me up with Woody's previous owner. When she found out we hit it off she mailed me a copy of her book, signed to Woody and I - it was very sweet of her.
  20. Did you decide on Casper? That is a cute one, another nuetral name is Jesse
  21. Everytime Woody sees my cell phone he starts his call rutine: "Hello....alright...ok, see ya...thanks...bye - BEEP" and just keeps doing it over and over and over (with slight varations) until I hang up haha
  22. Wow that's great! I have a mulberry tree in my front yard! Well, I live in an apartment complex, so I hope no one minds me stealing (parts) of it my landlord loves woody so i'm sure he'll say yes.
  23. Woody and I are famous hehe. Next stop - being published! www.AfricanGreys.com
  24. BM and Kit: I did mean to insult you in anyway shape or form! The particular pet store that is in range of me had very shady employees - I was too applied for a job there (when I was younger, in highschool) and was offered it, the first day of training I was told that our puppies are indeed from mills, but to tell customers that we get them from 'private breeders'. I was not meaning to imply that everyone is like that, as I too would hate to be steroetyped as a 'gamer' who has no life when I infact enjoy my animals, movies, sports etc. When I told my manager at said pet store that I wouldn't do that, didn't support mills etc. I was told to quit or be fired. Now, this was several years ago granted, but the ethics of the store have not changed much. Again, BM and Kit I hope you will forgive me - that was my mistake and a bad choice of wording! :pinch:
  25. So I'm considering getting another parrot, but there aren't many breeders in my area (ohio) thus I'm dumped at a pet store as an option. Are birds that come from pets stores like puppies from pet stores? I.E from puppy mills, health defects, came from crummy condition, etc. I do NOT and will not support a bird version of puppy mills. Does anyone know about this topic - where the birds from pet stores come from? I don't even see the point in asking the staff as they lie anyway. thanks in advance! -Amberly
