Hi Judy- We do get hummingbirds here (in Missouri) in the middle of summer. I have put feeders out for them but don't get enough to make it worth the effort, at least not at my house. My parents live in the country and they usually have them at their feeders every day. I don't know what variety they are but I just love to see them. They are like little feathered jewels. Enjoy yours.

Hi James- I love the pictures of Corkey. What a little beauty. Even if she doesn't like it, misting her with a plant mister is good for her feathers. Mine like it most of the time, sometimes more than others. Try to do it at least a few times a week. You can also mist her with Aloe Vera juice (100%) as Dan suggested. There is every reason to hope that her feathers will grow back normally especially if she has stopped picking at them now. Perhaps she is happier with her life now that she has found you!

Hi SunnyC- I hope you find that bird's owners but if you don't maybe you'll give her a good home? I've never had a ringneck parakeet but from what I hear they are great pets. Best of luck!

Hi Dan- welcome to the forum. You're right, this is a great site for info about greys- we all love to swap stories about our grey babies too. Keep us updated as Tiah learns to say more.

Responding to earlier questions in this post about if TAG's can have the red factor, yes, I believe they can. My Lyric is 20 months old and has some red feathers underneath his wings. He also has one feather on the back of his head that has a pinkish cast to it if looked at under good lighting. I'd take a picture of underneath his wings but he doesn't like me messing with them. His father has some random pinkish/red feathers too so I believe it is inherited. That's just my opinion of course.

Once again, you guys are cracking me up!

MommaFawkes: I just read your story and my heart goes out to you and poor little Gizmo. It's so wonderful that he was able to live the last part of his life in peace and contentment. I always feel like things happen for a reason and there's a really good reason that you went out garage selling that day. I hope that lady never gets another bird to treat so terribly. You have a kind heart and I wish you peace.

Hi fairymyst78- My Lyric was an only birdie too, don't worry, it will do fine if it is alone. I think they probably would have an easier time socializing with another bird if they were brought up in a group but I don't know. Lyric is spoiled of course but what grey with an owner on this forum isn't? I would just make sure that the baby gets lots of one on one attention and is well socialized with people.

Just thought I'd try to reintroduce this topic. There are lots of new members on here and I'd love to hear their stories of how they spoil their feathered babies. Please share with us, we love to hear other peoples stories!

Hi Tawney- welcome. It must have been meant to be for you and Congo to find each other. That's a great story and I'm glad he found a home with someone who appreciates him.

Hi Pam, I can understand what you mean about finding him a mate. I have a wild caught Timneh male that starting trying to mate with obscure things, this was years ago, I found him a girlfriend that was also wild caught and they ended up being the best of lovers! They are the parents of my little Lyric, it took them 10 years to be successful at breeding but it was worth the wait. Hopefully if you do get a girlfriend for Bird they will be compatible. Best of luck in your search.

Thanks dblhelix- I did already look online for information regarding this treatment and of course the mfg claims that it is perfectly safe for people and animals but they don't specifically mention birds. Since it is supposed to be odorless and is actually injected into the ground and the birds will not come in contact with it I am thinking it will probably be alright. I'll check with my vet just to be sure though before I commit to having it done. Termites are a common problem here in the Midwest and I just thought there is a good variety of people on this forum from all over the world that maybe someone on here had an experience with this. Termidor is the latest and greatest technology for getting rid of termites and is supposed to be the most effective. If I have it done I'll add to this post and let everyone know how it turns out. Thanks again.B)

Congratulations Lovemygreys- you may just have to change your name to lovemybirds- don't want to make Jack jealous do you? He sure is handsome!

Thanks for the advice Dave. I don't know why I didn't think of that!

Sorry Heather, seems you are ahead of us in this dept. I used to get Bird Talk but don't anymore so I can't help you here, can you paraphrase the article and what you are wondering if we agree/disagree with? That way others that don't get the magazine can give you their opinions.

Hi everyone. We need to get our house treated for termites. I just spoke to the exterminator and he uses a product called Termidor. It is basically the same chemical that is used in flea and tick medicine for dogs. They squirt a liquid in the ground around the house. The exterminator claims it is odorless and it will not harm animals or people. It doesn't get airborne and does not cover surfaces inside the home. I just wondered if anyone out there had had this done to their house and if their birds were okay afterwards? I am very careful of anything I use around my birds so it makes me paranoid to have something like this done. I would just remove the birds from my house but I have so many and the cages are so large, it would be a major undertaking to move them all out and I don't know where I'd move them to anyway. I'd like to know that someone else has had this done and their animals were all okay afterwards... let me know if anyone has experience with this.

Hi Lovelylew: The link that fairymyst78 gave you is a good one. I'd also highly recommend Drs Foster and Smith- they have excellent service and good quality foods and toys. Have you considered switching your grey to a pelleted diet? Seed only diets are not that great for birds and tend to lead to malnutrition problems. Be sure and supplement the diet with fruits, veggies, greens and grains if you do feed seeds. There are lots of ideas on this forum of what other people feed their birds. Some seeds on occasion would be fine or you can use them as a treat too.

Hi Guitartists: Everyone has given you good advice so far. I will add that it will be important to teach your children how to interact around the bird. They should never try to handle it without your guidance unless they are old enough to handle the consequences. Also, try to teach them to move slower and be quieter than children tend to be when they are around the bird. Good luck in your decision!

Hi Lesley- Your birds look like they really have a great life and lots of fun. Welcome to the forum, we look forward to hearing your adventures of sharing your life with so many birds.

Hello John- congratulations on getting a new baby grey! I like the name Smoky for a grey, it would really work for a male or female. Maybe something interesting will come to you after you get to know it's personality too...

Hi Duchess- we can't wait to hear more stories about you and your flock!
-
Hi Shelly- I love the name Adanna, and its meaning is very fitting if she is daddy's little girl!

Hi Johnny & Fairymyst78- nice to meet both of you. We look forward to learning more about you both. I also have a monster on my hands, but we call him Lyric Angel. My boyfriend thinks it should be Lyric Devil instead because they don't always get along so well. Ah well, not everyone can get along with everyone else now can they?
