Hi Kenny- welcome to the forum. This is a great place to come and talk about birds. Glad you joined us.

Welcome Maxx- We're glad you and Gizmo joined us.

Yeah, that looks really nice- I've been wanting one for Lyric but they really are expensive. I live too far away to pick it up though- Missouri! What kind of wood did you make your new one out of? There are no sources for natural manzanita close by to me either- have to order something from the internet and pay for shipping. Thanks for making this available to the forum members- maybe someone closer to you can make use of it.

Mary- I had another thought about your topic. It's possible that Sammy is bored or hungry when he turns and nips at you. This is not acceptable behaviour but perhaps you can stop it before it happens by offering him a favorite treat or snack, or a foot toy to play with before he gets a chance to bite. Sounds like you are doing better with him though and maybe you don't need my advice! Maybe he just needed some more time to adjust to you and the new environment. Best of luck!

Those are great pictures. Lyric won't willingly lay on his back for me either- but I would like it if he did! Both birds are very pretty- you must be proud!

When naming my birds I always have a long list of names I like and I just try them out until I decide which one I like best. I named my grey Lyric because I wanted him to have a musical name, something different and also I felt it could work for a boy or a girl. If you wait to name your bird it shouldn't make a difference. Just call it Pretty Birdie until you come up with the right name. Pretty bird is one of the things that is supposed to be easy for a bird to learn to say- so maybe it will pick up that and say it, but it's not a bad thing for a bird to say. Good luck in your decision- I know you'll come up with the perfect name in time!

Generally I believe the babies are moved into a cage once they have feathers and no longer require supplemental heat to keep them warm. Plus they start getting more inquisitive and need a new environment to explore in and perches to begin learning how to perch on. Hope this helps!

Very pretty birds, LovemyGreys, thanks for sharing them with us! My whole love affair with birds started with a little blue budgie. They will always have a place in my heart, even though I don't currently have any. Your birds look like they have a great home and a great mom too! B)

I'm one of those that got in over their head before they even realized what was happening. It's good you are drawing attention to this topic. I loved birds so much that when people had one they just didn't want they always thought of me. I had a hard time saying no because I just wanted the birds to have a good home. After a few years of caring for so many I realized I had reached my limit and learned how to say "No". Just recently I had to turn down a blue & gold macaw that some friends of mine had. The father had developed an allergy to the bird and just couldn't keep him. They offered him to me knowing I would give him a good home. Knowing that I really couldn't offer him the attention he would need on top of all my other birds I had to say no. It was hard, but I feel like it was in all of our best interests!

Hi Carol- best of luck to you and Bobby and I wish him a speedy recovery. Like Dave said above, you should have your vet show you the best way to give him the medicine. I've been lucky enough to not have to do this for my birds, the only ones who have ever been sick were given antibiotics that were put in their water. I hope he is feeling better very soon!

Lyric loves to look in mirrors and I tell him to give himself a kiss and he does. It's very cute. If you don't want to get rid of the mirrors you can try putting some decals or stickers on them temporarily so the bird can tell there is something there. Also, take him up to it several times and let him touch it to feel that there is something solid there. I did the same thing with the windows in my house when Lyric was little- letting him know that it is solid and he can't fly through it. They can still have an occasional accident though and very well could hurt themselves- it's up to you what you want to do. I bet you are excited about getting a bird very soon!

Harrison having fun and scaring me
Lyric replied to HeatherStrella's topic in Photography & Video Room
Heather, Harrison is so photogenic and you can tell she is just lovin it, playing on that ring. Lyric loves to hang at the top of his cage by one toenail- that's why when he was little he went for months without a tail, he broke all his tail feathers off from falling down while playing! -
Great pictures everyone! I want to see more!!

That is a great picture Spence, she really looks pretty sitting there on his shoulder. I do worry about you having Chloe outside without a harness- you know sometimes even if the wings are clipped they can get enough lift to get away from you? I'd hate for you to go through any ordeal if she should get scared and fly away...Just concerns from a girl that worries too much... Back to topic, I do love the photo!

Hi Amanda- welcome. I like your name list, I think Jack & Jill would be very cute! Also, I have a Tarzan and I think Tarzan & Jane would be very neat names for a grey couple. My Tarzan's mate is Akasha- but he loves her just the same! I bet you'll be so excited to get them home.

Hi Pammy! This is a great place to learn all about the African grey. We all love birds and love to talk about them too. Glad you joined us.

Hi Calvin! We're glad you joined us!

Hi Gaevren- welcome here. We're all glad you are doing your homework and learning what you need to before you get your bird. They are a big commitment but so well worth the effort. Working with your daughter's bird will give you a small idea of the patience and gentleness you'll need to work with a grey. It's wonderful you've given her a chance to prove to you how mature and responsible she is. Keep us updated as you get closer to getting your own grey!

Hi Leah! Glad you are here with us. I know you must be so excited to have your little one coming home soon! The time will go by fast and soon he will be with you and making you smile. Post some pictures once you have him home!

Hi Big_Squishy: If you are looking for books to read about the grey then I highly recommend the book "For the Love of Greys" by Bobbi Brinker. It is the best one I have ever read and I've read a lot. I really agree with her whole philosophy on everything to do with birds. I wish you the best of luck on finding the right bird for you.
