Love the picture, you just can't resist those baby eyes can you?

Thanks for the information about your playstand building...I still haven't found the time to make my own but I hope to (and the motivation) soon.
-
Sure wouldn't hurt to ask a vets opinion but I know mine has hot feet alot too, I don't think that sounds uncommon.

I think that ad looks like a scam...the pictures may be real but.....who would feel comfortable spending that much money on a pair of birds?

I voted too--B)

Caroline- I'm so glad you get to have a little vacation. I hope you can have some fun and won't worry the whole time about your darling greys. I am in the same boat you are more or less- I haven't left him overnight since he was hatched (2 years this month). I worry about Lyric so much because I'm the only one who really understands him and appreciates him in my house. I think eventually we have to get to the point where we accept that they will be okay for a few days without us and it won't be the end of the world for them or us! If I ever get to that point and have a vacation I'll let you know! Let me know how yours turns out! B)

hello Vida and Budster- my TAG doesn't speak (not yet anyway ) but he whistles up a storm and makes up his own songs too. He adds vibrato to the whistles and really makes me laugh sometimes with how into it he gets! Sounds like we have some very talented greys on this forum.

Hi Ferduno and congratulations on your new addition to the family, Frosty. It's very good that he is still eating well after coming home with you. Is the mixture seeds or pellets or a combination of both? You should continue to offer the mixture along with fresh water which should be available to your bird all day long. You can also offer fruits, veggies, beans, whole grains, taking these away after a couple of hours so they don't spoil in the cage. Many of us share whatever we are eating with our birds as well- as long as it isn't chocolate, alcohol, avocado, onions, or anything too unhealthy like sugery or fried foods. Take a look at the posts in this forum about what to feed and what not to feed your grey. Welcome to the forum!

That's so cute. I haven't met a grey yet that didn't love pizza- what's not to love about it though? I think Toni had a great idea- Yogi could be their new spokesbird to promote their pizza....

She didn't know what hit her did she? Love the picture and thanks for sharing your experience with us! Mine get baths with the spray bottle method- your hand will be tired by the time you are done (especially if you have lots of birds!) but it's so good for them. Good job!

New pictures of Loki - 8 weeks old ... and clean!
Lyric replied to Broomer's topic in Photography & Video Room
Those are really great pictures- Loki sure is a cute little one! I'm so happy to see him looking fresh and clean too, good job on talking to your breeder. -
Congratulations Trust- A little baby girl to spoil! I just knew it... you know female intuition just can't be wrong- better than a karnak hat any day!
-
Congratulations Amber! Do you have a name picked out yet? I bet you must be so excited.

Sounds like a great bird- but can I ask why you haven't had him out of the cage yet? A week is a long time for a bird to be stuck inside his cage, especially if he is a handfed baby and used to daily attention. They need time out every day and interaction with the people in their lives.

Welcome Raiderbabe! You will find it is a great experience to be owned by a grey. Do you know if yours is a girl or boy? Any ideas of some names you really like? Well I bet you are having lots of fun already. Keep learning all you can about them and keep us updated.

Hello Betsy and welcome here. I don't live in FL but I'm sure someone will come along that can offer some advice to you.

Hello Julie! Webster sounds like an interesting and entertaining part of your household. I know when greys pick up an annoying sound it can be hard to bear, especially if you are already stressed out. You need to hang in there for Webster's sake. Go outside and take a deep breath- hum to yourself- sit down in another part of your house and relax for a minute. Encourage Webster to make the noises and words that you like to hear. You must ignore the screech that you don't like. Is he in a room of the house where he can see what is going on and get lots of interaction with people? He wants to be with his flock- which is you. When you leave the room he is calling to be sure you are still there. You may try making pleasant sounds to him when you are in the kitchen so he knows that you are there. I hope you are able to stick it out with him- he deserves it!

Hello Whiteflower- welcome to the forum. I'm sure you're going to love having a new grey!

This is a good topic and I'm interested to read the other members ideas for being more green. I feel like I'm recycling when I use the newspapers I've read to line the bottom of the cages but Siobhan takes it a step further by composting it after it is used. Lots of containers that food comes in is recycled around my house because the bird first gets to play with it, then when he's done he throws it on the floor for the dogs to play with. By the time everyone is done with it, it's already broken up into pieces!

It will be years before your baby would even be ready to breed- so enjoy her now. Even if you do decide to breed her it may be difficult as she is bonded to you and most likely thinks of people as her flock. If you successfully pair her up with a male grey she will probably become more wild, preferring his company to yours. Breeding birds is not a very profitable business and lots of hard work. I would reconsider this venture and just spoil your little girl and love her dearly.

Well isn't he a little angel?? My Lyric was so picky about the temp of his food too when he was being handfed. It was a challenge keeping it hot enough to get him to eat. He was an only birdie though and I wonder if that doesn't make a difference since he had no competition for the food.

I like Talula, that's really cute!

I think overall African Greys are quieter than Amazons, Cockatoos, Macaws or Conures. The sounds my greys make are much more pleasant than the calls the amazons and conures make. Although, Lyric has one noise he makes when he wants out of his cage- it sounds like "ACKKK" a barking kind of sound that he does over and over even though I ignore it the best I can. That can get a little annoying at times! Just all part of dealing with a parrot though. And yeah, the phone conversations are interesting at my house. The dogs always start playing and getting wild with each other and barking while I'm on the phone, and my grey always tries to bite me if I try to pick him up when I'm on the phone. So he's flying around to all the places he knows he's not supposed to be and I'm trying to herd him and the dogs around while trying to have a conversation with someone...you all know how it is!
