Sometimes I have a struggle with Lyric getting him in his cage too. He'll play the whole keep away game flying off my hand when we get close to the cage. The best way I've found to deal with it is that I show him something he likes and let him touch it as I sneakily get him back in the cage. He has a fascination with cups (yeah, I'm not sure why...) but if I let him see one of the cups he likes he will be too distracted to realize what I'm doing. So far it works pretty good, if it ever stops working then I may be in trouble!

Yup, I like a man who can stand up for himself- Dan's okay in my book too! :laugh: Hope his head doesn't get bigger from reading these posts though, then his Karnak hat won't fit anymore...

I'm so happy about the enthusiasm you have for your baby grey. Loki is going to be the luckiest little birdie in the world the day he gets to go home with you. I love the playstand you made, that is really great! I'd like to see pictures once it is done and want to know what Loki thinks of it too. Nice job! And, don't worry about spoiling him, that's what birds are for, and there are a few spoiled birds on this forum I know for sure!

We have a screened in porch that I take Lyric out to when it's nice outside. He loves it. Of course your mother is just trying to take good care of her flock, but remind her that birds live outside and they survive just fine- perhaps you can word it so that she doesn't get offended! Let her see how much fun the birds have while they are outside.

Our flock includes the following: Me and my boyfriend, Lyric the TAG, Lyric's parents- Tarzan & Akasha, Isis & Osiris- another pair of TAGs, Sammy the blue front Amazon, Crackers the blue crown conure, Louis the cherry headed conure, Kim & Jim the Senegals, Zulu the pacific parrotlet and his daddy Ziggy, 2 dogs- Sparky & Chilli, and a tank full of fish.

Lyric is two now, as of yesterday, and I believe he is just learning how to talk. But, he does it in a sing-song kind of way, like he's singing a song but it happens to be "pretty bird" in the rhythm that it comes out- does this make sense? It's hard to explain. I haven't heard anything clearly yet, but I thought once a long time ago I heard him say pretty bird but then he never said it again so I didn't know if I was imagining it or not! I really would just love it if he talked but of course I love him so much, it's okay if he never does too, just an added bonus to having a feathered child.

Lyric loves toys with bells. He has this green rubber ball full of holes with a bell inside and he hangs upside down off of it and swings around, having a ball. He also likes rubber duckies- I give them to him in a small glass corningware dish full of water and he pushes it around and has a great time. He doesn't eat the faces off his first, he starts at the hole in the bottom- he likes to stick his tongue in the hole and eventually gets a beak in and makes it bigger. Of course some of his other favorite toys are anything he knows he's not supposed to have! Oh, also used to love wooden craft sticks (like popsicle sticks) only now it seems he's outgrown them and doesn't think they are cool anymore... he looks at me like "mom, don't you know these are so NOT interesting??" whenever I try to give him one now. I just love getting him new toys to see what he'll like.

Hello Nims- How long has she been acting like this and how long have you had her? Did you perhaps do something to anger her recently? Yes, greys can have off days just like people do- sometimes they just need a little break and perhaps a little more sleep than they are getting and then they will be back to normal again. I'd try sitting by her cage and reading a story or just talking to her about your day. Offer her a favorite treat and then give her some time to work it out. Is she by some chance getting less attention lately than what she is used to? A 6 month old grey should be full of energy and curiosity of what's going on around her. Give her a day or two and let us know how things proceed, that's my advice anyway. If she keeps it up you may want to check with a vet like Judy said- could be that something is wrong with her health.

Welcome here Hrund. Those are beautiful pictures of your grey and I'm so happy he has found a good home with you. You were doing a great thing when you adopted him. Sounds like you are taking things slowly which is just the right thing to do with a grey. They do things in their own time and eventually they come around. Keep up the good work!

Hi Pugnacious and welcome here! Sounds like you have a very busy life and lots of love to share with your crew. The pictures of Smoke are great, what a pretty bird! I also have a Timneh. You can tell the difference because of the horn colored beak (Congo's beaks are all black) and also Timnehs have darker maroon colored tails versus the bright red of Congos. The overall coloration of a Timneh is darker grey and they are also smaller than a Congo. Those are the basic differences. Does Smoke talk at all? It will take some time for him to adjust to all the changes in his/her life but given time and patience he will adjust just fine. Hope you enjoy your time on the forum!

Hi Tigerlily- See you were looking for a friend to talk about birds with and now you've got a whole community of friends that love to talk about their birds- we're all just a mouse click away. I can relate to all the stories on this thread! I also don't have many in my life that even care to hear about my birds but fortunately I've found this forum and the people on here really care about their little feathered friends. I spend more money than I'd care to think about on bird food, toys, toys, and more toys. I think I have more fun buying toys for them then I do buying stuff for myself. There's people on this forum from all over the world and we all share a common love. Glad you've joined us and hopefully you no longer feel friendless!

Thank you all so much, I love the photo Tracy! And yes, pizza is one of Lyric's favorites, that's why we're having it for tonight. My mom just brought him a whole bag full of presents (he's not at all spoiled is he?? and not just by me either- now the grandparronts are getting in on the action!) Siobhan, he's been having terrible two's tantrums for a couple of months now but things seem to be improving, so maybe the worst of it has passed. Anyway, we're all having fun and that is what birthdays and hatch days are all about!:laugh:

Just wanted to wish my baby Lyric a very happy hatch day. He's two years old today and the time has gone by fast. He's at work with me today and we're having a great day so far. Tonight, a special treat- PIZZA- and a new toy!
