  1. Hi Linda just want to ask you when do you think Tanner will be coming home. I also wanted to show you this link it has a picture of a severe Macaw in it tell me what you think. then I tell you my opinion. http://www.greyforums.net/forums/african-grey/35360-color-mutations.html#35405
  2. I just got a new bird that was delivered to me he traveled in the back of a station wagon in a cat carrier with no perch for 10 hours then I met the 100 miles from my home and he traveled another 2 hours in a nice travel cage made for birds and he is 6 years old so he's not a baby. I though for sure he was going to be totaly stressed out but he wasn't he settled in very quickly. I'm sure your birds will be just fine also as long as you are not stressed and take it all in stride I'm sure your birds will also. Just make sure they don't get a draft or over heated while traveling mabie you can cover the cage for them and they will probubly love the little adventure and settle into their new home in no time at all<br><br>Post edited by: Tycos_mom, at: 2008/11/07 13:19
  3. Raja is about 7 months old now and you got that right he eats everything def not a fusst bird. he says a few things now. he sure is a cuddly little guy he talks the most when i'm petting him he enjoys it so much he will sit there for hours letting me pet him he also loves kisses on his beak I have trouble some times talking because he's got his beak pressed against my lips silly bird. ijust love him to bits
  4. I have the same problem except with a 5 year old not a baby he love to shread hanging news paper so I hung a whole small stock of brocolli on a veggie scewer and hung it in his cage well the firs thing he did was attack it and break off a chunk and chewed it to bits. hopefully in time he will learn to like the taste of the different veggies that I'll hang there each day for him to shread I wish you luck with your baby.
  5. Boy its hard to love on Raja this morning talk about bad breath. last night I made one of those side kick pasta things as a side dish with dinner I had a bit left over so I gave each of the birds a little bit of it each it was the one with the shell and it has garlic in it. well this morning all I can smell is garlic on Raja breath. I told him to go brush his beak {Feel-good-0002006E}
  6. I'm glad you enjoy our little thread. its fun to compare bird and find out what's the same and whats different about them. I don't have an alexanderine but I do have the smaller verion of one. its kind of like the difference between a CAG and a TAG they are the same in many ways. Same bird different size ringnecks don't have the red slash of feathers on their wings and their lower mandable is black not red and they weigh around 110 to 120 grams I'm not sure of the weight for an Alex but I think its about double the ammount. Betty or Zooman can tell you I sure.
  7. Definatly Tyco's a huge drama queen she also picks up everyones voices. My daugher was in the bath the other night I heard MOM MOM so I went to see what she wanted. She looked at me like I had totaly lost my mind It was Tyco but I could have sworn it was Andraya it sounded exactly the same. If they put Tyco and Andraya in a room and said Ýou'll win a million dollars is you can pick out which is you daughter voice and which is the bird I'd probubly lose they sound the same Tyco also talks in my voice but to me It doesn't sound like me to everyone else its my voice. It is amazing how smart they become. My oldest daughter came over with the baby the other day and we where haveing coffee and visiting when all of a sudden we hear need help with toys. Tyco likes foot toys but she drops them and then can't pick them up and climb at the same time. So she figured she would ask meto come adn do it. That was a first for her my daughter couldn't beleive it. a bird asking for help, unheard of.
  8. I got Gizmo to eat some broccoli this morning I thought since he seems to like to play with preening toys that hang such as news paper and rope. I decided I would try hanging a whole small stock of broccoli from one of those bird Vegetable Scewers well I no sonner hung it up and he attacked it broke off a chunk and chewed it into little bits. I'm not sure if he actually ate any of it but I figure if I do this for awhile he might start liking the taste and actually start eating them instead of just chewing them up. I hope it works do you think it will work or do you think its a waste of good veggies.
  9. I agree with Dave that feather must be pulled I to have pulled many broken blood featers its not difficult Towel your bird get someone to hold him cover his face so he doesn't see whos doing what get a pair of needle nose pliers grab the feather at its bass and give a quick firm pull straight out clot it with some flour or cornstarch till the bleeding stops and your done it won't take long once you take the towel off give the towel heck for hurting your bird make the towel the enemy. If your to afraid todo it yourself get the vet to towel the bird and coverhis face then you hold the bird for him while he pulls the feather anistetic is not nessesary at all Post edited by: Tycos_mom, at: 2008/11/05 22:29<br><br>Post edited by: Tycos_mom, at: 2008/11/05 23:06
  10. I'm haveing big problems with my Amazon. She knows Gizmo is in the house now and she flys from one end of the house to the other and then sits on the floor in front of Gizmos door and talks and chatters and screams. everytime I bring her back to her playstand or playtop she flys right back to his room. I got so bad that I actually gave her a time out. Then I felt bad she just want to meet him and see him. He's in quaritine until the bloodwork comes back. I put Gizmo in the farthest room I could get from my birds alot of good that doing Fregie knows exactly where he is. Sometimes I wish she couldn't fly so well. Any Ideas how I can keep a very determand bird to stay put.(without clipping her wings)
  11. I have no Idea if he can fly or not I can only assume that he can. Most birds do fledge before they are clipped with Tyco that was not the case and when he was clipped it was by someone that had no idea what they where doing so because of that he started barbering her left wing because of irratation from the bad clip. When I got her clipped it was to repair the damage that was caused. I have no idea why this was not done in the whole four years before I got her I guess some people just don't care. Anyway I think its a different story with Gizmo He had a owner that loved him so I would think that he can probubly fly. if he ever got up the nerve to leave his cage. When I had him out yesterday to go to the vet I did take him into another room away from his cage for awhile he was very nervous and would not leave my shoulder. He didn't fly but I think thats because he was to afraid to leave me as it was the first time away from his cage in a brand new enviroment.
  12. welcome back I understand how circumstaces can change without notice. I trully hope you take owning this Baby more serious Greys need the same unconditional love that you give your child. good luck I love the pics of your baby it does look like a girl to me but thats just a guess. mabie you could take a look a baby names on the web and find a name that can be a girl or boys name that way you won't have to change it after you have her/him sexed.
  13. I have a green cheeked conure and he hasn't changed a bit since I got Tyco he's still a little cuddle monster still loves to play and fly to me constantly still is the biggest clown in the house I wouldn't worry just make sure that you keep them apart don't put their cages to close together Greencheek conure think they can take on anything and you don't want to see him get hurt because he gets up in your new Greys face and trys to pick a fight.
  14. Ilove the bab dark eyes but mabie thats because I've never had a baby. Tyco was 4yrs old whe I got her. now she is 5yrs old and I can see that her eyes are starting to go from light grey to yellow I guess they all have to grow up sooner or later.
  15. She is beautiful she looks like she haveing lots of fun she sure loves her mommy and mommy love her too what a very special girl you have there.

    Laur!

That is the cutestest thing. they really can be so much fun to have around If laughter keeps you young then I think us bird owners are going to live for a very long time. grey't story thanx for sharing
  17. Very nice those little canaries are spoilt rotten they are very lucky to have you for a mom they may not know it yet but they will.
  18. Well I took Gizmo to the Vet this morning she said he looks in in good shape. his mouth is nice and clean and so are his ears his poop looks great under the microscope no bacteria or anything we did a blood test but that won't be back for a couple of days. she said he looks like he could use a bit more nutrition his feathers are a bit faded she said that it could also be due to stress. She gave him a vitiamin shot just to give him a little boost but she said overall he looks to be in good shape so thats good she said she would be very suprized if he has anthing wrong with him that a good diet won't cure. she said he looks great and he's active so I shouldn't worry. I told her I was haveing troube getting him to eat any kind of fruits and veggie. She said to just keep trying and eventually he might give them a try. Thats why she gave him a vitimin shot she said it would help get his appetite going. She says he's a real sweetheart and just a big bluffer she doesn't think its going to be long before he's going to want to be with me 24/7. I didn't get his wings clipped today but I think I'm going too I have to go back in when the blood work comes back so I'll get his wings and nails clipped then I didn't think there was any big rush since he will only come out of his cage to sit on the door for a few minutes. When I can get him to step up that when he will need to have his wing done. right now that isn't happening so its not a big deal at the moment
  19. Thanks for your help in makeing this desision I don't clip my bird after the initial transision I also like to watch them fly you can just tell that when they fly they are at their very best and extreamly happy. Tyco is starting to learn to fly alittle now she's a very late bloomer as she was not permited to fledge and to see her fly even 10 ft is a joy for me as well as for her. I think that Fergie is a big influence on her Fergie is a Yellow crowned Amazon an a expert flyer.
  20. by the sounds of things Ice just needs to settle in If he already steps up and like to fly to your shoulder I would say he just not ready for anything else just yet. Let him be for a while he will let you know when he;s ready for more. Ice sound like a sweetheart and I don't think you will have to much trouble with him just give him a couple weeks to adjust to his new surrondings
  21. I think your right Dan for a very long time I couldn't get Tyco to eat dark green leafy vegetables or broccoli but for the last couple weeks she can't seem to get enough of the stuff. Ever since I try Beet greens she's been gobbleing everything leafy she plays with it while she eats its it its very funny to watch her beat up on a romain lettace leaf and the take a bite and beat it up again. I don't care how she eats it as long as she does.
  22. Tycos the same way she can learn something as soon as it she hears it she can say it. my youngest daughter was excited about a week ago and said woooo!!!! well for the last week I've been hearing it constantly and I don't think its going to stop anytime soon its one of those thing that hard not to repeat back to her and I keep telling people to ignore her or she will never stop its getting on my nerves big time she definatly has it stuck in her head like a song that get stuck in our heads and we find ourselves singing it all day long
  23. The are so cute I love the second ones colouring absolutly beautiful. I love th song of the canaries do these guys sing for you. thanks for sharing these little guys with us are You going to breed them next breeding season or are they just pets
  24. as you all know I have a new bird tomorrow I'm taking him to the vet. I'm debating weather I should get his wings clipped or not. I usually clipp a new birds wings when I first get them just to help them get settled in and to learn their place in the flock. I don't want anyone getting hurt because they fly to another birds cage or don't know whos playstand is whos and that kind of thing Its more or less a safty precation until they learn how everything works around here. Gizmo is cage bound and I'm a little worried that clipping his wings might make him lose any confidence he has gained. He is so close to stepping up onto my shoulder now and I don'want him to revert. now for my question. Do you think I should clip his wings or not. I would only get the first 3 or 4 flight feathers clipped and then after he molts he will never be clipped again but I do find it allot safer at first until they learn the way thing work around here that its safer for everyone if the new birds are clipped I just don't know to much about cage bound birds. Tyco was cage bound but I had no choice but to clip her she barbered all her feathers on her left wing and was very off balance because of it she would fall so hard on her Keel I thought for sure she was going to break it if I didn't do something to make her more balanced. and It didn't really affect her because she never fledged anyway so she didn't know how to fly. But with Gizmo its different and I'm not sure what to do.
  25. Its very hard to say what they understand and what the don't I'd like to beleive that they do understand especialy if they are a little bit older birds. I have dogs and they understand rverything I say to them so if a African Grey has the same inteligence as the great apes than the are much smarter than my dogs so In my opinion yes the understand what is being said to them. Tyco will state her opinion allot when my daughter and I are talking many times during the conversation Tyco will come up with the correct responce before I do.
