I'm so glad to hear that your baby has stoped chewing her/his feathers I would have been a total wreck if it was my baby. In fact I was a total wreck when one of my baby birds was plucking his Feathers I started bathing him dai;y and he stopped thank goodness and thank goodness yours has stopped also Dave You are just awesome to have around The Knowledge you have about bird is so valuable to everyone on this forum I don't know what we would do without you.

I trully hope that was not the case for your bird. if it was he will have a very hard time trusting any human ever again. More than likely he is just a pet with lots of baggage and needs You to show him that all humans are not bad and that you will love him unconditionally no matter what then he will trust you and love you forever. I trully is awful what they do to these poor intelegent creatures they should have the same thing done to them and see how they like it.

Linda you where talking about Tanner needing to learn some manners. I was getting Gizmo to let me touch his beak today with out him trying to bite my fingers so I would say no bite be gentle mom wants to touch you and when he let me I would give him a little peice of walnut or an almond which he loves. I would say you want some he would say want some and when I gave it to him he said thankyou. it was so cute I just about fell off my chair so I thought I'd ask him to say please for a nut so I said say please he said your welcome. I telling you this guy is just to cute some one has spent some time with him for him to know these things his previous owner must of loved him so much before she developed the alergy to him the things he knows just blows me away he ask if I love him he says ilove you. he say's pretty baby. yabba dabba do when he's playing he says alot of things in context I think hes just about as smart as Tyco tyco also speacks in conext and has a huge vocabulary but she hasn't learned to say please thank you and your welcome yet. I'm going to have to teach her now that was just to cute for words.

Can you put the box inside its cage some and then open the box put food in the cage also don't forget to give him some grapes or some kind of juicy fruits so he doesn't dehydrate I'know water would be a hard thing while hes in the box but he does need liquids and since grapes are mostly water it would be a good substitute at the moment.<br><br>Post edited by: Tycos_mom, at: 2008/11/03 21:17

It does not have to be allot of time everyday but if you could just spend 10 or 15 minutes in the morning before going to work and then another 10 or 15 minutes before you put him to bed I will just about garentee he will start responding in a more possitive way If you can some how get him away from his cage at those times and spend time with him in a different room so he can't see his cage I know that it would excellerate the tameing time but if thats not possible try to just spent a few minutes everyday with him make it around the same time everyday so He looks forward to it at that time. all this will help good luck with him.

they are longer than a Grey because of their tail but they are a bit smaller if just count their body's and don't include the Tail they're body's are about 10 or 11 in long mabie the same size as a Timnah. They are just beautiful birds you should ge one.

Tyco takes a shower like that she does the same thing she loves the shower she speards her wings and just goes all out and then when she done I put her on her playtop to dry and she has another bath in her water dish silly bird never wants to dry off.

There are a few breeders that have greys right now there is one on vancouver Island that will have Timnahs in 6 weeks ready to go home and I do beleive there is another in Maple ridge that has Congo greys Just google bird breeders in Vancouver BC and you should be able to find them easy enough

I'm so glad that you got the problem sorted out your baby should get back on track now. watch his weight and make sure he's eating well and all should be good to go. Can you post some pics of your baby I just love baby pictures.

I agreenwith Judy open the door and let him out if He so desires. he may want to be close to you. I'm glad things went well on the trip home everything will just get more and more wonderful now. Having a Grey in the house is the best You'll never be lonley thats for sure. They are trully amazing birds.

Raja is trying so hard he does say come on but thats not real clear yet he practices constantly its so cute to listen to. he usually does most of his practicing in the morning while he's haveing his breakfast I uncover all the birds at 8am but I don't oprn the cages of the smaller birds until around 11am it cives them a chance to eat their breakfast with out the other little birds helping themselves to each others food. All the smaller birds are very good friends the two cockateils,Raja, and Sprout ny GCC all play together happily I laughed so hard this morning I gave Raja a Peanut and He was sitting up on top of the cockateil cage well Princess wanted to try that peanut really bad they're Raja's favorite treat well she must Of tried 4 times to get a bite if the peanut Raja would lunge to say go away and 3 seconds later she would go back and try again. I laughed it was so funny to watch Raja would never hurt her they're good friends and she knows it so she was very persistant she really wanted to try some of his peanut so finally I broke one open for her and put it in her dish she was a very happy camper I think that was the very first peanut she has ever had. cockateil don't have peanuts in the diet usualy but I guess princess does now becuse she really enjoyed that peanut. I love to watch the birds play together nobody plays with a bird like another bird does and they are very fun to watch. Tyco has become good friends with one of my teils also and to me thats very strange I don't like it. Tyco is a 600gr African Grey and she huge compared to a Little cockateil it scares me but she doesn't seem to try and hurt him at all I still watch really closely its just to scary for me.

You know that an exact discription of Gizmo right know He's got two brains in his head one that say I scared to like anyone because what if I do and they lock me in a back room all by myself with no one to talk too again. and the other is saying I like it here and this lady is nice and mabie I should try and give humans another chance. He so wants to be loved and give love but is so afraid to give all of himself just yet. The only thing that been safe for him is his cage. I think the one thing that has helped him the most is the fact that he's in a different cage than he was the one he was in wasn't very big and now he's in a huge Macaw cage. I think that one you get Tanner home and in a different cage than the one he was in it will help allot his security blanket will be gone so he will have to depend on you for his security.

I must say Gizmo is getting better everyday. He's not lunging or trying to bire at all any more. If I put my fist in the cage now he comes over and licks my nuckles. I've been reading bird books with lots of coloured pictures of bird in them and he comes right over to the edge of his cage to see the pictures he will actually kiss the bird in the picture it so cute he so funny some times. I hung some rolled up newspaper in his cage he really liked that shredded it into little tiny peices. He comes out of his cage now and stands on the door when I give him his bath so I think he really likes it. he also love to sing and dance with me. He really wants to get as close to me as he can now he grabs the shoulder of my shirt and pulls me close. he still won't step up though but I'll keep trying. I can't wait till I get him to the vet on Tuesday because I think if he saw my other birds stepping up and getting cuddles and pets he would want some also. If I could just get him away from his cage I'm sure he would enjoy it so much that he would get over being cage bound allot faster. He won't eat any veggies at all and he's not eating his pellets anymore either. I guess I'm going to have to get creative so that I can get some good nutrition into him. He likes scrambled eggs so mext time I make them I'll add so ground up pellet and some chopped broccoli mabie that will get something good into him. He loves to hang from the top of his cage by 1 toe and flap his wings like crazy. I ask him if he's showing off and he says showing off yabba dabba do I guess he learned that one from his previous owner but it so cute. anyway thats todays update I'll check in with another after I see the vet on Tuesday.

Yep Chistmas is right around the corner. Its going to be a costly one for me this year got 2 grandchildren to buy for plus about 12 more on top of that with my nieces and nephews new baby's as well. my son just bought his first home also. So I think I'll get him something nice to put in it. That way I can get away with just one gift for him and his wife. I love the Christmas season but It always kills the finances for about 3 months after Christmas I have no money for anything. I wish it wasn't so comercialized. I think it would be allot nicer then. Least I doné have to cook Christmas dinner anymore I have daughters that can do that for me now. I cooked for 18 people every year for a very long time now its my turn to relax. I refuse to cook another thanksgiving or Christmas dinner ever again.:laugh: Its not my job anymore. I had my oldest daughter and her baby over all day today it was a very nice visit I haven't seen her for about 3 weeks so It was good to catch up she's going to have another baby in about 7 months so I'll have 3 grandbabys soon. Being a grandmother is so much fun you get to have the fun and none of the work.

She is soooo cute I love the pics they sure can be little stinkers somtimes your right I have a GCC that my daughter has nicknamed stinky because he's such a little brat:laugh:

Oh my gosh he is so beautiful I just can't wait until Gizmo looks like that he's getting there but Tanner is just stunning your so lucky. when there well cared or and happy it make such a difference. T anner is much younger than Gizmo also Gizmo is 6 yrs old so I'm told anyway one day soon I hope Gizmo will look as good as your bird I'm so jealous (not really) Gizmo is a wonderful bird. I'm sure you are going to be as happy with Tanner as I am with Gizmo everyone who has met Gizmo has fallen in love with him he is just so sweet. I really find with Gizmo most of the lunging is just bluff He's pretty much over all that now He like to me to stand really close so he can reach me and grab my shirt sleeve just below the shoulder I often ask him if he want to step up there but no such luck yet soon I think. I want so badly to get him away from that cage because he is so cage bound I know he needs it but I'm going to let him decide when he's ready. as soon as he steps up I'm out of therr with him. I was thinking I might get his wings clipped just till he gets more used to things it might help him to become more dependent just for a while so I can work with him away from the cage. I haven't decided yet we'll see how he does between now and Tuesday when I take him to the vet.

I really want to see pics as well. I'm sure Rikki will settle in fine and be all over that cage in no time.

I hope everythin goes according to plan I know you must be so excited to be finaly takeing your baby home. keep us updated on his progress and let us know ho things went on the ride home.

With Tyco it seems like forever to get her to where she is. I got her last October 9th so its been a little over a year. I guess thats pretty good for a Grey with my other Rescues it only took a couple months. Greys take a lot longer and a lot more patients she was a tough little nut to crack I'm tellin you but worth every second of It I wouldn't change a thing. Shes my very speciel angel

WHAT DO YOU MEAN NO PICTURES YET!!!! Just kidding. Don't worry about him being a little nippy he will get over that soon enough once you get him home. I love his name very nice. Gizmo was nippy when I got him but has aready almost stopped I just used the Iron fisy approuch and the top of my head and within no time no more biting it works really well they can't get a good bite on a fist or the top of you head so the soon give up trying to bite. Gizmo only took 4 days to come out of his cage he doesn't stay out but as soon as I come over to play he come and sits on top of the door of his cage so he ca be closer to me. I ask him all the time yo step up but he's not quite ready for that yet but I'm sure with a few more days of love and interacttion with him he will. He says I love you everytime he sees me now it makes me feel so good. I had to work tonight so I was gone for a long time I'm telling you as soon as he heard my voice he was screaming c'mere c'mer but I don't want to turn him into a screamer so I just said hi Gizmo from the kitchen and didn't go to see him until he was quiet again. It's good that your getting your bird after I got mine this way I can tell you what worked for me because I'm sure Gizmo is every bit as cage bound as your guy is. Any way I am just overjoyed that your going to be bringing him home visit lots and keep us updated

Tyco loves foot toys with thing that rattle I but baby rattles from the dollar store and she will play with them for hour she love her boing also but I had to take it away from her because she kept unscrewing the hook from the ceiling and then her and the boing would fall to the floor I was terrified she was going to hurt herself. I'm ging to get her a smaller one that I can hang in her cage that way she won't have to far to fall. she also love to shread news paper I give her all the flyers that aren't shiny paper and she rips them to shreads. she also like small tree branches that she can chew the bark off I give her lilac tree braches she will spend quite a bit of time chewing on them

Gizmo my new bird always saya C'mere when I leave the room and Tyco has a new sound thats driving us all crazy she learned it from my youngest Daughter and its very hard to ingnore she yells wooooo and its very hard not to say wooo back at her but its time to stop answering her or we are all going to go mad.'she used to yell MOM when I left the room that was alot easier to hear. I'm so glad that Goerge is starting to accept you as his family it won't be long before he will be wanying scrithes. he'l have you waiting on him hand and foot.:laugh:
