  1. He is almost 5 months old. His hatch date was July 17, you about hit the nail on the head though Ziggy. Yes I love pictures haha
  2. Some pictures and a video of his first trip. I know he isn't suppose to be on my head but he was only up there for a min. lol
  3. thanks for the very kind words everyone. Of course I don't mind a resize.
  4. Thanks guys yeah I was just kind of looking for more ideas on what to give him. I have been told if I am eating something give him a bite. I was eating a banana the other day and tore some of the bottom in a small chuck and he just made a mess with it. I then smashed it up with my fingers and rubbed it on my finger and he loved it! I am getting some unsalted peanuts soon to try for him.
  5. I worry over everything though. I want him to have the best possible life he could have. Thanks everyone for sharing related "worry" stories. I knew you guys had to have some
  6. As everyone said trust=neck scratches. My CAG is still a baby, right now when he is out he will not let me scratch his neck or head. However, in his safe zone (his cage) he trusts me fully. Maybe you should try talking to him in his cage and slowly trying to pet his neck and head while he is in there. If he allows you to, give him a little treat and praise him.
  7. So, last night my girlfriend and I are watching tv around 11:30 and the power cuts out for a second flickers comes back on then out for good. It was extremely windy and I think the wind knocked the power out. So we light some candles (unscented around the bird) but my dad forgets and he is in the family room the same as Cosmo and lights an oil lantern. A few seconds later I hear my mom start yelling at him I run in there and realize what he did. My mom put it out after about 40 seconds of it burning. I was all worried, I couldn't get on here to see if it was toxic or search on the internet. I called three emergency vets, they all gave the number to the vet's home. None answered. I called all the bird ppl I knew no one answered. He was acting normal though. Then on top of things it started to get cold. I covered his cage when the power hadn't been turned on by 2:30 am. The power finally came on at 4:00 am I checked on him and he was sound asleep. Uncovered his cage when it was a little warmer, and he seemed to be fine this morning. That's my crazy story of the weekend haha
  8. Alright thank you so much.Shew we mainly have cherry and oak in our yard I'm glad I threw those down. Thanks for the help
  9. I was going to collect some real branches for perches in Cosmo's cage. I started picking a few up then started to worry that some might not be that good for him. Is there any type of tree to stay away from or the best tree branch? Judy you can help me out my fellow Virginian, since you know the trees around the area.
  10. You guys are welcome, thanks for the nice words. haha I think Cosmo is the pretty one here Judy
  11. Yes I understand and I have not found anyone on here that has given bad advise. I said Ziggy had good advise, the sentence " I see people that buy a bird and expect it to become a show bird or a Alex." Seemed like he was saying I was thinking this. I apologized after I re-read it, and I am sorry again to him. One thing I hate about reading, I can't hear a tone. If I could have heard the way he said it the first time I wouldn't have been offended. I had to re-read it and interrupt it in the manor he typed it. Again Ziggy I am sorry. Thank you to all who have helped me. B)
  12. I would love to work there, we will see.
  13. oh yeah for sure. it is crazy how much they ask for things
  14. I am worried about everything. I go by the saying "better safe than sorry" we have a copier in the very next room but he isn't near it most of the time, especially when it is printing. Usually like you said though if it isn't safe for us then it isn't safe for animals.

  16. Cosmo has been with me 2 weeks, and he is doing very well. Still building trust with him. Today I took him with me while I took a shower, to show him water doesn't hurt me. He seemed confused on what was going on at first then half way through my shower he started preening himself. So I guess seeing me made him want to be clean too. I will get a shower perch soon and put it closer to the shower head to see if he wants to get a little wet. Him trying to preen my hair lol mumbling video, he does better. It is hard for me to catch on video though. well I just realized the sound isn't very loud and hard to hear sorry everyone. 17. I bet that poor military has been flicked a million times. No wonder he wanted to bite me. Yeah I think I am going to apply there and tell all of them to stay away from the birds haha
  18. I was walking around the mall with my girlfriend in a mall about an hour away from my house. We cruise by the pet store, we never buy anything there because they mark everything up 100% and the prices are ridiculous! I hear a familiar screech, and I am like no way!! I go in there and there are two CAGs, a military macaw, and a blue and gold macaw in like a ferret or guini pig glass enclosure. I walk up to it and put my hand down in the cage and say step up and the first Grey does so I get him out and play with him, he was very sweet put him back and get the other out. She was a little more independent but wasn't bad, both were extremely sweet. I now pick up the military and he is a real butt. He beaks my finger not hard a couple of time then grabs my thumb and lays into it. I shook the finger he was standing on and said NO! he let go and looked at me like what??!! why not?? He started going for it again I said No and he stopped. I was doing great with him, I think he was understanding. Then the pet store employee runs over fast and says can I help you, I turn and he bites my thumb again. the employee then looks at me and him, then flicks him in the beak hard. He is stunned, I pull him away and set him down, and ask her why she did that? She said you're suppose to, I was like no, if you do that they will act aggressively every time fingers are coming at them. She said "oh well I never thought of that hehe" and walks off.Out of curiosity I asked how much they wanted for the birds, she told me $1,700 for each grey, and $1,900 for each macaw. I expected a lot but I mean really??
  19. Maybe you misunderstood my original post then. He usually steps up just fine, just lately he hasn't. I think it is possible to untrain an animal. They are going to have the desire to want to do what they want. If you train them to do something then you slack off on doing it, there's a big possibility they will go back to their original ways. I never said your advise was bad, it just felt like to me you were insinuating that I think that I buy an African Grey and think it will be just like Alex. I thought your advise was good, your remark after words came off rude to me at the time. I was already having a bad day and when I read that it seemed like it was a shot at me. Now after I have calmed down I re-read it and I understand what you was posting. I'm sorry if I offended you, like I said I was in a bad mood, and people perceive things differently in that state of mind.
  20. congrats sounds like he is coming along greatly. Yeah Cosmo won't really let me touch his neck or head unless he is in his cage. Like you I am slowly doing what I did to let him touch him in his cage.
  21. ziggy wrote: I never once acted like I expected him to be "a show bird" or Alex. I understand it takes time, I am just making sure I am doing everything right. I come here to hear from other owners that I am doing it correcty. I didn't post, why isn't he talking, he doesn't know how to count, there is something wrong with him because he can't count.
  22. When your Grey was a little Grey and you were starting the bonding and you had to leave to go to work or the store, bed or even the bathroom did your bird chirp and screech? I feel bad because he seems like he wants me to stay there the whole time. Of course sometimes I can't, I was just wondering if this is part of "bonding"? One more question; I was told and I read to be consistent with the time I spend with him. I get him out usually the same amount of time everyday but sometimes it is off an hour or two on the times I get him out. Do you think this is a big deal? Generally he is out 3-7 hours everyday.
  23. I'm trying, he is starting to trust me a lot when he is in the cage like I said I can touch his wings, feet, beak, head neck and chest and he doesn't mind at all. Outside of the cage he doesn't really let me. I guess is what I was trying to ask is, if outside the cage trust just comes in time?
  24. When I try to get him out though he grabs on to the cage
