Woohoo Just 7 days left! That actually feels forever for me too and it is your bird! Wow $300 of toys! My first grey put up with cardboard boxes and chunks of wood my husband chopped for her as I was cleaned out with the cost of her and the cage Did her no harm though! My last tips would be - have fun with him, 6 weeks is nothing when you will have him forever!

{Feel-good-0002006E} Ok I know its not really funny... but she obviously thought you were a turkey for not getting out of the way in time {Feel-good-0002006E}

That is sad that you feel you must rehome him. Has he been checked by a Vet? Are you sure there isnt a medical reason for his shredding? Siobhan

Oh he is so cute... I love the way they cuddle into themselves. He definitely looks like he has settled well into his new home! And Dusty is such a clever name for a Grey!

Arthur wrote: Welcome to the Grey forum. This is a great place to learn about your new baby! I am not sure having another bird that bites is a good reason to clip this greys wings??? But unfortunately there isnt a lot you can do about it now. His wings wont grow back until his first moult which is usually when he is about 1 year old. Scratching and grooming is actually quite normal. Aloe juice wont do him any harm at all, and you can use it every day if you'd like. Get him used to showering also. Unless he is actually plucking out feathers or chewing on them you don't need to worry. Just relax and enjoy him!

Oh I am soooo sorry I read this thread.... I thought it was about a Grey exploring its new home..... :pinch:

{Feel-good-000200BB} Very very funny... you had me going when I got the joke but not the punch line... Good one!! Siobhan PS had the throat thing week before last, it was horrible, I needed antibiotics so its probably as well you are going to Doc!

Oops! What have I started?

I know this kind of thing really infuriates grey lovers and I personally cannot imagine giving away my babies BUT.... There are obviously a lot of people out there who didnt do their homework, and who simply werent prepared for the amount of time and effort it takes to keep a grey happy. And it must be VERY frustrating to have a bird that bites you and plucks all the time. Personally I would prefer to see people like these giving away or selling their greys, than keeping them and leaving them in a miserable life. I have a rescue bird, and while I could never imagine myself giving him away, I am very glad the previous owner couldnt handle him Siobhan

You are soooo lucky!!! It certainly sounds like potty training to me. Neither of mine are potty trained, they just go where and when they want to! I'd say stick with it and you might have less cleaning

I have 2 greys, I got the second one about a year after the first, but I got him for my husband not my first grey. As it turned out the greys tolerate each other reasonably well. They like to preen each other for a while, and then they like to separate. I have them caged separately but I let them out together. The greys are both still bonded to the humans, and sort of bonded to each other. What I am saying is getting a second grey to keep the first one company might not work! I have a friend with 2 greys who HATE each other . If you want a second grey, get one for you, not for your first grey. This being said, they do keep each other company by talking to each other when they are in their cages. I dont feel so bad leaving the house because I know they can chat to each other... and this I find funny, they chat to each other in English not in birdy language! Siobhan

Well I thought since we are such complex creatures we should give the men in our forum some insight into how we work. :lol:

She is lovely isnt she? People often ask me how I can tell my greys apart, but I think they look nothing like each other. Do others with more than one grey have trouble telling who is who?

Sit on the coffee table and shred a book or magazine! My kids remind me all the time that they would be in BIG trouble if they did what the birds get away with :laugh:

Are you STILL sick? That was some rotten bug you got. You poor thing. Weather is still lovely here... spring is in the air!!!

I always bath mine in the bath tub. I start by putting in the plug, and shower them using the hand held thingy. Then as they bathe the tub fills a little. I have been doing this to both of them since the day I got them so they are both well used to it. Oisin still panics a little and then resigns himself to it. He doesn't "enjoy" it, but it is not the worst experience in his little life. Liath just jumps on in there... she loves the whole routine especially the snuggles afterwards!

Young CAGs do have problems with balance, and even older ones fall occasionally when they are excited about a toy or something. 5 times a day seems a bit excessive though. Is he just playing away happily on his perch and falls, or is he energetically playing and falls?

We had a gorgeous day for our Parades... not a drop of rain. It was a bit chilly but we had fun, and my scouts were on their best behaviour. The same cannot be said for the leaders, myself and one of the other leaders made a total show of ourselves waltzing down main street to the tune of a marching band behind us!!! But we had fun
-
How old is he??? The reason I ask is that when Liath was about 1 year old she started chewing on her tail, it was awful looking, but then the feathers started to fall out and she never touched the new ones. I think she was trying to help the moult along. But she looked pretty miserable for a while...
