  1. You are welcome I forgot to let you guys know that I did try the potato dish sort of. I used boiled potatoes instead of baked, and broccoli that we were having for dinner. I added the apple juice and cheese. Oisin was afraid of it - no surprises there. Liath loved it and so did Beaker the caique.
  2. Yes absolutely you should hold on to them. I am lucky enough that the cage my guys are in is very wide. I can put a new toy for Oisin at the back corner of the cage and eventually he will go investigate it and then chew it to death. But this can take weeks for some toys. Liath loves new toys so I dont have to go so slowly with her.
  3. That is amazing. It makes you wonder about how clever some birds really are doesnt it?
  4. We will miss you but of course you must look after her. I'll be praying for her.
  5. You just have to keep laughing at them dont you? Better than a sitcom any day
  6. Oisin proves you can't have a bath in the water bowl
  7. That is a wonderful idea. So many members seem to have babies, and many are getting them very young, before they are fully weaned. Will there be a free baby grey for everyone who visits the room?? (I want one )
  8. She really is a superstar isnt she? That's great and she has a girlie voice too!
  9. I use tomato puree on the bean mixture. One of my greys LOVES it. The other will eat it if she has nothing else. They both eat the oatmeal if it is very sloppy. I think it reminds them of baby food. For Liath I fed her the oatmeal off a spoon out of a normal bowl at first. She thought it was mine so it had to be nice! Now she laps it up. Watch the head shaking though. She takes some and then shakes her head and splatters everywhere. Believe me if you dont wipe it immediately it turns into cement on the walls
  10. Incredible. I know the world is a dangerous place compared to when we were young, but those kids are going to end up locked in their houses scared to go outside.
  11. EXACTLY! I hadnt heard it before. It definitely made a difference. I don't think Oisin just decided to be nice after 9 months of being mean to me. I got cuddles again this evening from him He is so soft compared to Liath... still has his baby feathers... so cute Thank you!
  12. Personally I would tell the guest to come next month!{Feel-good-00020069}

She is happy enough just to sit on my shoulder and hang on for dear life while I go about my housework. Other days she will stay on top of the cage with Oisin and comment on what I am doing. If she is IN the cage and talking to me, I just answer her but dont always take her out. She seems happy enough with that most of the time!
  14. When I got my first grey, one of my dogs was convinced she was dinner. But I suppose about 6 months on he gave up. So now I can have everyone in the same room, but NEVER unsupervised. A dog is a dog after all. And Liath loves to bite them too!
  15. I know I am going off topic here, and I apologise for that, but did anyone see that program on UK's Channel 4 last night called Cotton Wool Kids? A mother wanted to microchip her kid and put a tracking device in so she could see where her child was at all times. The little girl was only about 6 and she kept saying she didnt want to be like Madeline McCann!!
  16. He is really cute... and he has a girls voice! So sweet. At 2.15 it sounds like he is pouring himself a drink!
  17. Laurie gave us a tip in the Did You Know thread about looking at a grey sideways with eyes slightly closed. And it really works! Oisin is my husbands bird and he hates me! He will step up when he wants to get out of the cage, but I have terrible trouble getting him back. Yesterday I put him on his perch and tried Lauries idea and I could stroke him for a while. This evening I put him on my lap and I cuddled, stroked, scratched and petted him for about 2 hours. When it came time to put him back to bed he stepped up nicely, and stepped down onto his perch with no fuss. I still have all my fingers too... pretty amazing! Laurie you are a genius! I really hope this new improved Oisin is still here tomorrow
  18. I put him on the stand last night and stood beside it instead of infront of it. And I was able to pet him for a little longer before he tried to nonsurgically remove my finger. Karma for you... it actually works!
  19. I have been feeding my birds a mixture of beans for months. I soak them and cook them, but only because I thought they would be tastier that way. Its good to know I was doing the right thing even though I didnt know it.
  20. I know I cant figure out what I should interview them ABOUT though  Any ideas?
  21. Hmmm I have to think about that.... my kids arent being too cooperative... I thought I might go round and interview the neighbours or something
  22. I thought he was about the same age as Oisin... Yes most dont talk in front of people. My dad doesnt believe Liath can talk because he has never heard her. I have had to video her and show him the videos. And then he says that it is my husband talking!!! He says I was robbed... that I paid €1000 for a pigeon:laugh: ! Some greys dont even talk in front of their owners. A good tip I use is when someone comes to the house I ask them to wait outside the door if Liath is in talky mood. That way she doesnt know they're there and they get to hear her!
  23. How old is he now? He must be coming up on the year is he?
  24. I got a new video camera yesterday so I had to play  Here is a little clip of my little Beaker...
